Like anyone who does strikes, I've experienced a ridiculous amount of afk players hoping to sponge off of my hard work. From that asshole spinning in circles in the corner, to that guy walking into a wall repeatedly because he Rubber-banded his controller; we have all experienced this. Instead of going insane with fury I do one simple thing.
Leave. Immediately.
If this entire community for two weeks could commit to leaving strikes when they see some asshole in the corner spinning in circles there would be no more people afking in strikes. People who afk are like dogs, and have an IQ to match. You reward a dog every time it bites you in the ass, that dog is going to keep biting you in the ass. Stop rewarding these afk assholes and they won't do it anymore.
Sure it would suck for a few days, and we would have to sacrifice our streaks, but those couple of weeks of sacrifice would save you years of headache. I understand that things come up, and you may have to step away for a few minutes. Just know that if you are gone for longer than 10 minutes, you are going to return and find yourself alone in the strike. Most strikes don't take much more than 20 minutes to complete, so if you miss more than 10 minutes of it, you really can't complain if everyone leaves. I think it's fair.
Since Bungie can't come up with a viable fix for this, let's do it ourselves. Let's bump and sign this and see if we can get this community on board.
Edit: I realize comparing afk assholes to dogs is a low blow towards dogs. I love dogs. Afk spongers are more like leeches, nobody likes leeches.

3 RepliesThere is obviously problems with AFK abuse but more often than not this is the scenario: PVP You realize that between when a game match ends and when a new one will start can be anywhere from three to TEN minutes depending on the RNG matchmaking in game. So....you leave the console to do any number of things and hope that you come back as you are landing in your next match. Sometimes you come back and you are still searching on average probably 3 of 12 or 1 of 6 depending. Sometimes you come back and you have been booted to orbit because you did not want to stare at a load screen for an indeterminate period of time. AFK is real life folks....get with it.

1 ReplyI'm the opposite of afk'er. I'm the Strike Rusher.
out of the two evils you know you'd rather have me during strike, admit it
-
Same, my blow my streak.....but I don't care, right to orbit
-
I got so fed up of the AFKs I finally took someone's advice and pushed the guy off a ledge, he stayed a ghost for a while until he transported to the boss, then got killed and eventually left (or got booted), so that worked nicely.

Edited by Man Ray: 9/26/2016 10:07:56 PMUnless you're under leveled I don't think there's a problem with people going afk, just go through the strike normally and get them killed as much as you can. They'll get tired of having to respawn and leave
-
I've done this since the start of destiny.
-
I always stop doing strikes once I'm up to light level for IB and the raid, so this week has been the first in a long time that I really played them... The afk is insane right now, and the amount of people who quit because of a wipe (which is usually their fault!) is bad too. Lame.

This crap literally just happened to me on the new strike...this guy sits there while we kill Sepiks...then sends me a message saying he thought he turned his xbox off!! But the moment we beat him he leaves the game!! Right as we fired the killshot and the engrams show up. This shit is getting old and bungie needs to address this. I know we can't physically see what a person is doing but when it's deliberately done they should be punished accordingly
-
12 RepliesIf I get an afk person, I just carry on. I don't need other people to do strikes with arc burn. I don't see why this is a problem really.
-
Edited by Bieltan: 9/26/2016 9:55:00 PMSheperd them towards some enemies so they get killed. If they dont respawn (they wont as they arent watching their game) they'll eventually get booted for inactivity. They get booted to orbit and get no rewards, you keep your streak. Simple.

1 ReplyI like Valve's way of dealing with AFK players in Left 4 Dead, have the option to vote to kick a player.
-
Valid point man but people in general are too dumb for such things.
-
2 RepliesEdited by Guardian0359: 9/26/2016 9:45:42 PMSolution is to block them... if high skilled players blocked those leeches it would result in them possessing less options to the point of failing in Destiny.

Edited by LeViaThaN3-: 9/26/2016 9:48:04 PMThe other day i had to do Siva bond brothers with just two and it was actually more fun but still, there's a strike playlist for a reason
-
You know that report for inactivity well Bungie could use that add a 1 minute timer after someone reports you and if you don't have 1 kill after the minute they get kicked ... Easy and they already have half of it in the game
-
4 RepliesSometimes, I have to go AFK to pee. Don't judge me. I drink a lot of energy drinks.
-
I would but I like having the vanguard streak
-
Do you guys know that the game called "Rocket League" kicks idle players after 15 seconds? We need that but after 30 seconds
-
-
Don't you dare compare AFK people to dogs.
-
6 RepliesThat or add a group kick function.
-
72 RepliesSee i have a problem with afk people an people on crack who rush threw everything. It's still being done in strikes even tho no one gets the strike specfics unless you got a key its like why. There needs to be a kick mechanic so people can vote to kick someone but must be for a legit reason other then we don't want you here bullshit. As for you people on crack you need to stop because it's getting old very fast an its annoying as hell.

Tell me about it. I had to almost solo the last strike part of my Thorn bounty due to an AFK. The 3rd person quit as he couldn't take it and luckily a new guy joined while this ahole kept dying while he was probably away jerking off. He was back as soon as we finished the strike. I already quit this strike twice because of such jerks so just had to almost solo it for the love of Thorn. A random did join in last few minutes to help me out. Just annoying what these people do now....
-
1 ReplyNo, if you you're not in the boss chamber or you don't have any kills, you get nothing.
-
6 RepliesPeople have suggested that AFK'ers (when frequently reported) should just get matchmade with each other.

I went into a striie with one friend. We are doing omnigul. Some guy rubberbanded his controller. Some people don't know this but a small margin of flinch is permanent until they move they're camera. If you get a high rof auto and shoot them from the direction you want them to move, they will slowly look up and toward you. You can then have him walk off the edge. We got one guy who rubberbanded his controller dead that way. Another time, we got a guy who was iust sitting there to stand and respawn next to a cliff. So I rezzed the guy while my friend pushed him off with his sparrow. At the end, of the strike, it showed his stats, he was booted for afk, then we did the mission, and he had 300 some deaths
