EDIT: flinch isn't even as bad as we all thought it was going to be, sniping is still just as easy, it's a sad sad day when an auto with high caliber rounds can't cause enough flinch to make a sniper rifle inaccurate stay frosty out there
it's all over the place.. Everyone is upset about the change to snipers (most notably, the added flinch)
Personally, I love the change. It creates a much bigger skill gap. We used to get scared coming around a corner and some asshole is just crouched hardscoping with a glare (probably been there for 2 mintues). Now? We get excited because our primary will keep them at bay.. now if they happen to get a headshot, it was a lucky mishap (or they are really good) can't get mad at that..
Being honest. The added flinch was much needed. Making it very hard to hit previously easy shots.
I just find it funny that a lot of people are contemplating quiting sniping or destiny altogether because the easy sniping "fun" factor is gone.. perfect exapmle of all the sheep that play this game and need the "Meta" to compete
Thoughts? Opinions?
Edit: a lot of people didn't like the damage nerf. But it makes sense. Only the highest impact snipers (if any) should be able to one shot someone out of a super.

7 RepliesThe only thing unnecessary was the damage nerf. Sure, if they're low-armor, you can still kill them in mid-Super, but the majority of sweaty players I know rely on lots of armor and recovery.

18 RepliesThoughts and Opinions? As a mid-range player I'm constantly getting caught between the back and forth between snipers and shotgunners. 1. Humans are basically self-interested creatures. It takes effort and maturity to see beyond what is in one's personal interests, and to think about what is best for the community as a whole. 2. The ability to snipe in PVP gave that player a significant advantage over other play styles. To the point that a good sniper could force you to play the game HIS way....whereas a shotgun rusher (no matter how good) can't do the same. IOW, there were no downsides to being a sniper for the last year in this game....and people NEVER give up power (or an advantage) willingly. It has to be taken from them...and they will ALWAYS complain about how "unfair" it is when it gets taken away. 3. Sniping in this game has been broken for the last nine months. With the nerfs to shotguns, and the return of TLW to form.....snipers had little to fear in terms of getting flanked and having CQC forced on them. With the nerfs to pulse rifles, hand cannons, and MIDA....there were no primary weapons that were a credible threat. So snipers just became more and more brazen in their exploitation of the game's broken mechnaics and artificially long TTK for primary wapons...and began operating and closer and closer ranges with impunity. 4. The nerfs in 2.4.0 were necessary...and ANYONE who is being an honest broker and thinking of the health of the game as a whole....will admit that they were necessary. Snipers had become de facto primary weapons at too many levels of the game..... ...and primary weapons with no-trade offs or disadvantages (beyond access to ammo). But you've just got a lot of people who just don't want to give up that advantage, and don't want to have to adapt. As the saying goes: "The central tenet of the human drama is simple: The whole world has to change so that I can remain the same." Which is what you're hearing from these whiny "elite" players. The true sharks will adapt and move on. The fish.....will whine.

I was a great sniper until the April update. The zoom really messed me up, I was used to the same zoom for the 2 years I've been a sniper. But I've been suprisingly improving lately since the recent nerf.
-
It is nice to not be tagged in the head after putting 3 of the 4 shots necessary to kill a sniper in, however as a mainly PvE player the flinch and damage nerf is very annoying.
-
I like how people are mad because only the highest impact snipers can one shot supers, yet ROI hasn't even come out yet. Maybe more highest impact snipers are in the dlc? And get over it. ( a former sniper.)
-
I love sniping now more than ever tbh
-
7 RepliesI was domeing people yesterday with a hawksaw thay had HCR and still got headshot with a sniper every time. I'm calling BS on sniper changes
-
Sniping took skill and still takes skill, just because a bigger flinch factor was added doesn't mean you should quit. If you get shot in the first place, evade, play smart, don't depend on your special to the point where you quit if it gets nerfed
-
They also so forget that the damage nerf is coming before a expansion meaning there will likely be more snipers of each type including the high impact. I don't think its going to be bad at all tbh I think it makes perfect sense
-
I'm not getting the aim assist I use to get before the update but sniping will never die. I feel it's still far more effective, especially with all the hand cannon/shotgun combos out right now.
-
I'm being serious. There was a no a nerf? Cause i see nothing different.

4 RepliesEdited by Redacted0302: 9/12/2016 7:46:48 PMIv been going off with my longbow tonight mostly because so many kids are using shottys and running straight at you, but hitting people that just popped hammers is anoying with the damage reduction, but it's managable, simply follow by primary or a body shot. Check my recent games about 4 15 - 25 kill streaks

43 RepliesIf you get sniped in the head while moving around in a Super, you should die. Doesn't matter the circumstances.
-
I think you can still snipe successfully in many game modes. But now in competitive games i think its just a better idea to put the sniper down and push in with your team unless you are very good at sniping. Honestly im going to give plan c and trespasser a serious go.

What's more of a crutch, using a gun that's in the game, or demanding the devs nerf it because you don't have the skill to fight it?
-
5 RepliesI was never ever good at it, but I will keep sniping and shot gunning because I feel like it.
Fusions for those in between sessions.

2 RepliesGonna lord high fix some bitches up tonight.

I don't care either way. I never used the archetype. My Ambush/Hidden Hand/Perfect Balance/Grenadier Weylorans does all the quick two shot body shot action I need it to do. Supers should be super. Use your spindle if you're consistently doming supers. Me? I just boogie and throw trips where I was at. The flinch nerf was absolutely needed.
-
1 ReplyI don't feel the changes were bad enough to warrant me changing style. The only key negative change was the loss of the ability to snipe a super user, yet that rarely happens for me anyway.
-
11 RepliesGet ready for Mtashed to cry on this post.

I totally agree with the flinch but not the damage reduction, it was unecessary.
-
Is it ok if i just want pvp and pve stuff separate? I know the vast majority of the player base is likely not active on the forums so i'd imagine quite a few people could care less about snipers(or anything else) in pvp but when the nerfs constantly beat the piss out of pve it makes it less fun to play. Just an observation. I'm indifferent on the pvp aspect of the sniper nerf. But, as far as i can tell from the notes, the snipers were nerfed for pve too. Guess with that huge reserve of sniper ammo it was "OP" and a "crutch" in pve? Idk, is it?
-
I agree with the damage nerf, they just better at a ton of highest impact archetype snipers in RoI or we're gonna see another 1kys cry-fest again.

14 RepliesStreamers crying???? Good. Made my week.

56 RepliesThis game still requires no skill to snipe they may have nerfed aim assist but it still literally curves your bullets toward the head
