Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one. If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it.
That's my religion.

9 RepliesIt's simple really. I want to believe as many true things, and as few false things as possible. So how do we go about achieving such a goal. Well a good place to start is to only accept things based on the strength of the supporting evidence. If a particular piece of evidence can only support one conclusion, and it is not in question, that is, it cannot be disputed, then it is likely to be true. We shouldn't invest belief in things that are not supported by evidence. Particularly if that belief flies in the face of other evidence. And that's where religion sits. No evidence in support, and many of it's claims contradict things that we know to be true. A lot of people have a problem with this because of the inherent uncertainty. But look at it this way, if you believe something that may well not be true, aren't you actually in a worse position? Isn't it better to be intellectually honest, and maintain as accurate a view of reality as possible, rather than jump to conclusions and potentially embrace a world view that leads to other unjustified beliefs, which will likely lead to a skewed worldview. It's ok to say "I don't know". In fact it's healthy, and mature.

35 RepliesYeah, I experienced an unexplainable that I am still looking for the answer to today. Natural laws don't get broken, when you experience one getting broken the only explanation is a being who exists outside this natural law, this being would be defined as a God.

7 RepliesThe way I was taught was this: if there is a God, then we, as mere mortals, have zero chance of comprehending and understanding the actions and motivations of said deity. It'd be like a bacteria attempting to understand the collected works of Spinoza,, and then trying to proofread it for consumption by its fellows. The sanest way to live then is as if there wasn't such thing as a god. Or, to paraphrase Socrates, if there is something beyond this life of ours, it is unknowable, if there isn't, we won't know it anyway. Live your life according to your own morals and ethics, not to the ideas of others proclaiming hidden knowledge attainable only through subjugation of your senses.

Not anymore. Grew up, realized how brainwashed being raised in a religious family can be. Got tired of the bs.

I believe in a god but i wouldn't exactly say I'm religious. I go with what makes sense to me.

I'm not religious but I believe in a higher power. I live my life trying to help people as much as I can and never try to make bad things like steal or kill. I believe that I don't need to go to church every Sunday to be a good person as long as I live my life good. The reason I believe in a higher power os because even if all we know I believe it was created through evolution someone/something triggered the start of everything.
