*When Clara pokes a figure, her finger feels solid matter*
Mortar: I merely suggested coming over here, you decided to come.

"Oh," Reese said, feeling slightly awkward after his response. "You said something about some sort of 'initiation' or 'admission' that I had to pass in order to become a member, right? Something about a lieutenant as well?" The shadowed figure looked down at Clara. Reese had many questions, but was hesitant to ask them.
-
Yeah. Nothing hard, don't worry. You just gotta prove you can fight to join. Because you're my friends, I'm gonna let only one of you fight. And, um, since the Lieutenants haven't been too active, you can fight me instead.

Edited by Cayde: 7/7/2016 5:35:10 PMReese looked at Mortar like as if he was crazy. Clara turned away from the shadowed figures and stared at Mortar "Fight you?" Reese asked, bewildered. "It's not that I'm scared to or anything, but I really don't want to hurt you, and you've always been really kind to us and everything; almost killing you one time is already enough [referring to the Magalagos attack]." He looked under his black cloak to examine his weaponry. Everything seemed very likely to kill; he slew great beasts with them. Reese hesitantly slipped on his black mask and activated his gauntlets, the Aces at ready. He motioned Clara to stand back. "Alright..." Reese said to himself in a worried manner. He collected himself, his mood changing completely, and stood in a ready stance. "...alright." He affirmed, now much more focused and confident. The goggles of his mask cast a faint white glow toward Mortar, and quickly analyzed his gear. Reese's gaze was unwavering, silent and concentrated.

Trust me, I have died many times, and I've always come back. Plus this place has Digi Recreation, it helps everyone a lot. Let us fight outside. Crossbow! *After Mortar yells out Crossbow, a figure walks down the steps, his head a bleached white skull* Crossbow: Yeah? Mortar: I'm going out, lock up the place when you're done. Crossbow: Got it
-
Reese followed Mortar outside. They stepped out onto a paved clearing in the back of the monastery. Clara and Cyan were still inside. Stone lanterns were erected at the corners, moss creeping across them. A canopy hovered above them, vines dangling only a few feet above Reese and Mortar. Reese familiarized himself with the environment, and retook his stance. "Ready?" Reese asked.
-
I didn't know that could happen, oh, well. *Mortar places his hand between his shoulder blades, and something begins to form. It appears to be a sword. Not just any sword, a four and a half foot long dark blue katana/broadsword. When fully formed, it ignites in ominous emerald green flames* I insist, you first. *Mortar holds his sword in a ready position, it is obvious he doesn't take the threat of death too seriously*
-
Reese quickly scanned Mortar's stance, then set an electrical field over the surface of his own body. He flung his Aces back into his gauntlets, then spun around and released two whirling blades past Mortar, magnetically spinning around each other as they went; they disappeared into the canopy. Subsequently, he drew out his NME and fired at Mortar's legs, the metal shells bursting into electrical charges and the magic shrapnel shards homing in on Mortar.
-
*Mortar dissolves into the ground, then reforms behind Reese, giving him a swift knee to the back* That's pretty awesome, but simplicity is key. *Mortar takes a few steps back, then takes a defensive stance*
-
"Well then..." Reese said as he picked himself up. "I guess you have a point." Reese flung out his grappling line at Mortar, pulling him toward himself. When Mortar was a foot away he detached his hook and shot a booming spray from one of his Aces, sending Mortar flying into a petrified tree at the opposite end of the clearing. "I do tend to over-complicate things a bit." Reese admitted, smugly. He grappled to the other end of the clearing, opposite of the petrified tree, and aimed alertly at Mortar with his SAOR.
-
*Mortar dissolvs into the tree, then reforms six feet away from you* You pulled a Roadhog on me... funny. *Mortar formed an iron ball on each side of your head, once that happens you have slight trouble thinking. Mortar takes this opportunity to tackle you, grabbing you by the waist and throwing you down*
-
"Those aren't all the tricks I have up my sleeve" Reese remarked, smirking from inside his mask as he did. He sent a large surge of electricity through Mortar's body, stunning and temporarily disabling him from dissolving away. Paralyzed, Mortar was then clutched by Reese. "You aren't going anywhere..." A sporadic buzzing can be heard in the distance, becoming louder as it became closer. Reese's two cleavers returned from the dense jungle, buzzing and twirling around each other. They then combined into one, massive buster sword, the chainsaw humming and rattling. With rapid speed, it penetrated Mortar's head from the back of his skull, stopping only an inch away from Reese's on the other side. Reese split the sword back into two cleavers, cutting through the left and right sides of Mortar's head, leaving it a crimson mush. As an extra precaution, he stood some distance away from the fallen Mortar, his SAOR (sniper-rifle) aimed and ready to fire at the first movement Mortar might make. "Cyan is not going to be happy about this." Reese thought to himself in self-remorse; he sighed. Despite this, Reese wasn't deterred.
-
*Mortar chuckles* *Groan* One thing about me... Electricity and me mix surprisingly well. *You watch in horror as Mortar's arms grow longer, stronger. Three arms protrude from his back, attached to them a wicked looking cannon* NOW we can have some fun. *Mortar lunges at you, using the cannon as a battering ram*
-
Reese leaps out of the way, just seconds before Mortar storms through the place where he once was, and grapples at a branch in the tree canopy. He conceals himself among the leaves, and converting his SAOR into physical rounds, aims his sights at the foreboding Mortar. Unseen among the leaves, he locks his sights onto his target, ready to move when necessary. Meanwhile, Clara and Cyan heard a loud thump from inside the monastery (probably Mortar when charging at Reese). They looked toward each other, then shrugged and got back to their game of Chinese checkers with a sitting Nekoluga.
-
*Mortar looks around with infrared sight, then finds you, then fires a round out of the cannon, aimed right at you*
-
"Damnit," Reese grunted. He leaped from his branch, whose tree was now blown out by Mortar's iron ball. In midair, Reese aimed his rifle into Mortar's back cannon, and fired a physical round directly into his ignition nerve. Reese rolled onto the ground, reloaded, then fanned the lever and fired at Mortar's duplicate arms, blowing them off one by one with more physical rounds. "I never miss my target." Reese stated, standing up and back into stance.

Good for you, but you do NOT mess with a man's spare arms. *Where you shot the arms shatter, but the shards stay in place for a few seconds and reform into functioning arms again* Don't feel bad, a lot of people tried that. *To make the fight more fair, he discharges himself, releasing the electricity and reverting to his normal form* This has been really interesting, but let's see if you can match speed and agility. *Mortar dissolves into the ground and reforms behind you, forming a ball of darkness and hurling it at your head, causing temporarily blindness. He forms four other shadow forms of himself, and they all, including Mortar, run around you. It is hard to tell who the real one is, you can only really make out their outlines. Two of them fire rounds from a .44 Magnum, when you are hit, you feel lethargic, and you react a little slower* *Meanwhile, Nekoluga (In his normal form) looks as if he's winning the game.*
-
"Fair, huh?" Reese yawned. "Then let's even the odds." He grabbed a shell from his NME, and aiming at the foot line of the shadowed figures, hurled the shell. The shrapnels remaining from the explosion homed in on the real Mortar, ending the illusion and draining Mortar of his life force. "Ah," Reese sighed in relief, cracking his knuckles as he did so. "Much better." Energized, he pounced back into a defensive position.
-
*Mortar, after being exploded, jumps back a little* Okay, that was annoying. Well, you can fight, I'll give you that. But, I have some tricks up my sleeve. *Mortar forms many iron balls around you, all converging on you. Mortar jumps over one and slashes at your arm, the emerald green flames boil your blood*
-
Edited by Cayde: 7/7/2016 10:39:05 PM"Oh, that burns," Reese remarked. "But, I've had worse injuries tinkering with these:" Reese slings out his Aces and fires slugs around him in a death blossom, breaking the iron balls into dust one by one. He flung back his Aces and drew out his buzzing cleavers, ready for the next move. Nekoluga, having won yet another Chinese checkers game, was crouched at the back door of the monastery connecting the the clearing, observantly spectating the duel.

Lemme guess... DIE DIE DIE!!! *Mortar runs at you, slicing at your chest, the flames burning your ribcage*
-
Reese clutched his chest. "Nah...more like 'Heroes never die!'." The electrical field, broken by the green flame, dissipated, along with the green infernos that covered his arm and chest. He grappled Mortar, pulled him in front of himself, and jabbed at Mortar's chest with both cleavers, the chainsaws shredding a jagged crevice through his body from the heart down. Reese looked down "Oh shit, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to cut you there!" Mortar fell to his knees, clenching the area around his belt in pain. "I should probably get you a very big ice pack for that." Reese observed, guiltily.

Edited by BrandRobKus: 7/8/2016 12:19:19 PMAh, nah, it's fine... *Mortar begins coughing in the wound, and a strange spore is expelled from his mouth, scabbing over his wound when it touches the blood. He stands back up* You thought I was gonna let you win THAT easy, huh? *Mortar forms a small ball of darkness and hurls it at you, it hits you in the chest, and your current wounds feel like they're on fire*
Noticed a couple others wanted to talk to you. Here, you can have many chains in one post. This Digital Dojo has a couple different things than Gydaton.

Cool; thanks for telling me. :)
Reese takes a look at his black cloak and notices the burns. "Goddammit! Do you know how much ste-- money this cost me? You owe me some leather oil after this." Reese flung out his SAOR and shot physical rounds at Mortar's head, blasting it into little pieces. Mortar's body fell backward. He converted his SAOR into sniper mode and aimed at Mortar's body, just in case he had another trick up his sleeve; this time, he wouldn't hesitate to fire if he did.
-
*Mortar notices the rips in his suit after you notice yours* Damn, I thought the Valhite weaving would make it stronger. *Mortar coughs up more of the spores in your direction, affecting your vision and making you feel somewhat tired*
-
"You know what?" Reese adjusted the sights in his mask and ran a quick electric jolt through himself. "I could do this all day." The duel continued, each opponent attacking and countering each other's moves. As it went on, the suns in the sky began to set, painting the sky several hues of red, orange, and yellow. Nekoluga was still watching attentively, unmoved from his spot. Cyan and Clara were still waiting inside. Clara, having waited what became hours, dragged Cyan to the back doors to witness the current events; she began to make what she could of a yawn herself. Mortar and Reese continued to fight, hurling round objects and loud gunshots at each other. Both began to tire, each swing and movement becoming more slow and energy-consuming than before. Mortar flung a large iron ball at Reese, falling short in front of his target. Reese, drawing out his NME, fired two shells at Mortar, both of which flung several feet above; he yawned, shaking his arms a bit as he did so. Clara and Cyan, amazed by how long the fight prolonged, became quickly irritated.
