Oh how many times it's happened. I see a sniper at the back of the map. I pull out my Badger CCL/MIDA/etc and line up the shot. About this time, said sniper sees me and raises his rifle to challenge me. I peg him twice in the head, then he promptly gives me the proverbial middle finger and kills me with a headshot. Here's my issue: this happens a LOT. The occasional lucky shot I can deal with, but when I'm shooting a guy in the head, he should not be able to maintain the line of sight needed to headshot me anyways...with consistency.
Now I'm not the type to complain without offering solutions, so here's mine. In my perfect Destiny world(s), aim assist would be removed from sniper rifles as it's my belief that sniping should be difficult and reward a truly skilled hand. However, through discussion with an individual of a differing point of view, I realize that this would not be viable without crushing sniping enjoyment for the more casual crowd. Therefore, my proposal is to make there be significantly more sniper scope bounce upon receiving a headshot.
This way, if you take a shot to the torso/arm/leg, you can still fight through and land the kill-shot. However, if you're taking a face full of lead/plasma, you can't just say "lol cute" and consistently land head shots. I am but a lone guardian. I want to hear the thoughts of my fellow players.
Edit: I am totally open to alternative suggestions to what I've offered if anybody cares to share. I value constructive dialogue in the name of improving a game.
Edit 2: Some solid proposals I've seen:
-De-scope on headshot
-Place "sway" mechanic on snipers
-Extend ADS times/lower overall Handling for Sniper Rifles based on impact (Higher Impact = lower handling speed)
-Give sniper bullets travel time akin to Queenbreaker's Bow
-Perk that has a chance to descope snipers upon headshot
-Randomize flinch pattern/direction
-Scale the amount of flinch/de-scope based on a combination of the range and impact stats. So a weapon like Badger CCL would cause massive flinch or de-scope upon headshot but an auto rifle like Doctrine of Passing would cause little to no flinch.
Some less solid/reliable proposals:
-Git gud
-Lrn 2 Strafe
-Don't challenge snipers (they are Gods)
-Raise your K/D, then complain
-Lern 2 stratajize
I'll update this as I see more. Thanks guys and gals!

Edited by StagiestCheese: 7/4/2016 4:09:40 AMAs a sniper, I just say decrease the RoF on snipers. The point of sniping is to ambush, assist, or take out a (singular) target. So when we can't do one of the three, the penalty should be that we are defenseless for a certain amount of time. This way there can be a diversity of snipers in destiny: The high impact snipers make a lower rate of fire weapon (around 2x longer RoF than a low impact sniper, but do 2x the damage in PvE), and higher RoF are only on low impact snipers. Bungie might even be able to make a high RoF and high impact exotic sniper.
This is what would be best for snipers imo, and will help out the crucible community
2 RepliesDescoping would be perfect. It's works well in other games.
-
1 ReplyDe scoping on a headshot sounds good but it shouldnt be for every weapon. You shouldnt be able to hit 10 across map on a crit with a docterine and de scope them.

5 RepliesEdited by superbrianjames: 7/3/2016 9:14:23 PMI don't think increasing flinch would help people beat snipers. As a sniper, I can tell you it is EXTREMELY difficult to get a headshot while taking damage. 99% of the time I miss. In fact, if I don't get the first shot off, I usually back out of the engagement. Hitting that shot while taking damage is likely due to latency rather than not enough flinch. For example, if you engage a sniper at the exact same time the sniper engages you (in the real world), and you both shoot at the same time (in the real world), the sniper will take damage and you will be dead. By the time he took the shot and the information came all the way from his system to your system you may have damaged him with a shot or 2. Which is why people have trouble gunning down snipers with a primary. Just to be clear, if increasing flinch in real time would be effective, I would fully support it. Right now though, if I see that red glint from across the lane it's best to not challenge. Snipers are supposed to be very powerful in that situation, just like shotguns are supposed to be powerful in small corridors.

I like using the Jade Rabit

Exactly what I say, increase flinch will solve all your sniping problems
descoping is a retarded idea
Edited by Fitcherman: 7/3/2016 8:45:53 PMAbsolutely right. Sniping is the biggest weakness in this game and I can't understand how Bungie does not realize this extreme error. Such a simple fix. They could add de-scoping like they had in Halo. They could turn them into a 2 shot kill. They could re-buff all the primaries so they can counter snipers. So many solutions out there but they do little to nothing. A one hit kill gun should come at a premium. It is a power weapon. When people are using specials more than Primaries, you should know something is wrong with balance in your game.
-
I'd love a Hardcore mode in Destiny. That way you could go into any match and every weapon would be balanced. I loved Hardcore back in the good CoD days.
-
Would be a lot better if we did t start with special ammo. Especially in Osiris. Good idea who ever implemented that in Osiris ya dumb shit bag. Destiny is just a hackers paradise and they're too scared to police it.

I agree

I prefer my primaries any day over snipers. Still, sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. I had no intention of using my sniper at all. I lost a match where 2 of the 6 opposing players just camped and sniped. We lost, and this changed my mind. The next match was at the dungeons, and it was an all out snipe fest! Needless to to say, we shit them down the next 5 games straight. My issue isn't with snipers. My issue is with the one that can't do anything else but snipe. Excuse me. Snipe, teabag, and other taunts. Why not learn all of your weapons. Become an all around player. What I've noticed is a lot of these o Es specifically can do jack up close. If a person snipes me, then me lees, grenades, or uses their primary, hey props to the better player. But if all your going to do is camp and snipe, I'm not your target, you're mine. I will make it my sole purpose to go after you every time. And no I don't have a great k/d, but I get the job done. One o fly favorite matches, I did this, and the person didn't snipe the rest of the match. What's more? They weren't good with their primary. Learn your weapons, their perks, and what makes them good. This will help improve yourself.

6 RepliesEdit: stop being a bitch about it and take it like a man. If head shots u while taking flinch that's FairPlay. Only suggestion is they remove unflinching and eye of the storm from snipers
-
Edited by TheDAB: 7/3/2016 12:52:10 AMI agree this should almost never happen. I would redesign flinch so that for a sniper your reticle doesn't reset back to its original position, but rather slightly off where you were aiming. This would make sniping whilst getting shot more difficult and thus make it so that the sniper must usually land the first bullet to get the kill. Some other things we could do, add ADS sway and/or move slower while scoped.
-
My suggestions would be to add weapon sway and increase the amount of flinch when taking damage.
-
I have eye of the storm and unflinching on my sniper so I usually can snipe somone hitting me with a scout.
-
Just make if like BF sniping. Problem solved.
-
-
3 RepliesSOLUTION!-------PERK CAN DROP ON ANY GUN-------"OUT OF SIGHT"----PRECISION HITS WITH THIS WEAPON HAVE A CHANCE TO DESCOPE SNIPERS. That is all.
-
2 RepliesI think as a sniper if you are taking fire you should be un-scoped and not be able to re-scope for 2-3 seconds, I'm all for the good shots out there and the people that smack you in the head before you see them but to stand there and take fire just to nail someone in the head isn't how it should be, snipers are tactical long range weapons not short range rifles
-
I suggest moving around a bit, I easily dodge sniper shots by swiveling back and forth then take your last shot
-
2 RepliesI've got a solution to this problem my friend. You sneak around and shoulder charge his camping ass and then go on the destiny forum and see his gamer tag write a post regarding nerfing shoulder charge because his camping sniper ass got kicked into next week.
-
All I want is sniper handling to become crap. Quickdraw removed off snipers. Quickdraw to other weapons from snipers negated. Quickdraw on bladedancer to snipers negated. Cut weapon swap and ready time in half. No more body shot then switching to primary, no more challenging primary users with a sniper unless you were scoped in first. Deej said it best. They're sniper rifles, not battle rifles. They aren't meant for firefights. If you try to use a sniper in a 1 on 1 you should have next to no chance to win unless it's at long range. We don't need to remove aim assist, we don't need sway or descoping. Just change the handeling. It's natural that a larger weapon handles more slow.
-
2 RepliesIts easy asf to snipe in this game. You can't really fit "good sniper" and "Destiny" in the same sentence without it being false.
-
There should also be scope sway when moving like NLB has.
-
1 ReplyLol its alright i get sniped so fast in the head from across the map and they guys scope light didnt show....so the so called nerf they gave snipers are bs lol they still can no scope and zoom in fast enough for a quick scope.....so intill the snipers are fixed this game kinda feels like rip off cod in the sniper department. Although thats just my opinion
