Discuss all things Destiny.

You know what I realized, YOU can make destiny a million times better.

From the 3rd day of destiny launching, I've been playing almost daily. Around December 2015, I decided to take a break from destiny, simply because I was bored and I had other stuff to do at the time. Fast forward about half a year, in slowly getting back onto destiny. Along my break and coming back after half a year, you know what I picked up? I came back to this forum and realized that the same shit is still raging a storm. The same nerfs and the same buffs, the same add this and the same add that. Nothing has changed on the forums. Now, me diving headfirst into the game, not knowing what the meta is, not glitching out anything, I came in and just played. Simply put on my headset and played. You realized that if you just took away all of this nonsense mindset we ALL have/had, the game becomes so much better. Instead of staying I top of everything and trying to perfect myself, trying to get the best of the best, trying to find the quickest shortcut, trying to obtain the most rewards, I just played. Stop worrying about the glitches and the nerfs and buffs and OPs and everything, just play. If you die, you die. You kill, you kill. That's that. It takes off so much more stress just enjoying yourself rather than putting barriers on your playstyle and your enjoyment due to things like weapons and balancing. So I ask you, please, put down the phone, get off the forums, and just play the game. Play some crucible, do some strikes, talk to friends, meet new friends. Just have fun. realizing that this is just a game, and realizing that the purpose of the game is to have fun, makes the game fun. i want to make something clear: Seems like some of you are misunderstanding this post. People are pointing out the topic about lags and in game glitches, and I agree. Ultimately these things are very annoying, and needs fixing. However this post is more driven towards people who have their heads in the numbers, (need this, buff that, change this, take this away, add that) those types of things. My realization today was simply that after you stop counting how many times you got killed to this weapon, or how stupidly powerful that weapon is, then you really do start to enjoy the game as a game. Stop trying to cheese your way through raids, don't try to obtain the most loot, don't try to go on a super grind for the best things, don't try to try hard you way through the game, stop chasing that perfect k/d. It's always healthy to set goals for yourself, but it's very unhealthy to always grind and grind at it none stop without taking a break and enjoy the moment. It's much better to view a game as a game rather than a chore. This concept applies for both real life and in game.
Gamers don't want to have fun, as seen with Crota cheesing, division cheesing, camping in cod. It's not fun, it's the rewards, loot or high score. Gamers don't want to say I had fun, they want to say I'm the best. I have never followed the meta, the meta just slowly rolls around to fit my play style before going away. But that's it, other players crave YouTubers to tell them how to play, they don't want to use what's fun they want to use what's best. It's a simple mentality, and it's ubiquitous to our gaming culture.
-Billy Don't Rage

I still don't like Reforging going away. People raise the point "all you see is god rolls." Well literally every match has god rolls in it, most people won't even bother using a weapon if the rolls aren't good enough. Rolls are too important to be left entirely up to RNG. Hold X Reforging was too easily abused, but without any Reforging we're stuck with imbalance purely based on drop rates, let alone everything else wrong with the game. It's not that I don't agree looking at it like numbers is a bad thing, but it's what Bungie does so it's no wonder we do it too, and it's no wonder it has such a negative effect Community-side and Developer-side. But some things have to be looked at critically. Maybe one day they'll make this game less of an elitist stat prioritization game and more of an actual shooter where people don't constantly teabag just because they're salty you have a good roll or feel like your playstyle is easier and more consistent than theirs. But it's doubtful.

    • This is the same mentality I adopted after legitimately almost destroying my Xbox during the Thorn bounty. There's still some bitterness towards the Crucible, (a lot at times) but I have learned to just not care. I find that mayhem playlists are the easiest for me to play because it's so fast-paced that I don't have time to be annoyed about dying. It's easy to have fun when you stop sweating in the Crucible.

    • Yeah, clearly people should just ignore those glitches and bugs and have fun. I'm sure people would of had a real 'blast' if trials wasn't canceled, and wasted their time going up against teams abusing the clown cart glitch. You realize a very small % of destiny players actually use the forums right?

    • Guy I work with is somewhat that way. He seems to enjoy the game, but moans about the same things that I see in the forums. It gets damned annoying at times. I have never known what the meta is/was at any given time. I just roll with what feels good to me at the moment. I hate hand cannons, but on occasion I find myself using one for a few days. It might have a 'God roll', it might be really crappy. If I can turn the opposition into a ghost, what does it matter? I don't pay a large amount of attention to my k/d. Yeah, I look at it every once in a while and wish it was better, but so what. *shrugs* I get my ass handed to me on a regular basis in Crucible. I still have fun though. :) I bought this game on Dec. 21, 2014 with no real knowledge of it. A sales clerk urged me to make the purchase after talking about gaming for a while. She said it just seemed like a game I would enjoy. I had been playing campaign style gaming for 11 years prior to that and only had one foray into PvP style gaming. That lasted a total of 3 days. As already stated, yes, the lag is crappy sometimes. I left 3 skirmish matches today because of it. I don't like to bail on a 6v6 match unless something pretty serious is going on. 3v3 though??? I've stuck around for some pretty gruesome shit because I would refuse to leave. I just don't like stranding 2 others. Just wasn't in a mood for that bad of a beating tonight though. Bottom line is that I have loads of fun with the game and always have. The day I start worrying about numbers and stop having fun is the day I move on to another game. You really couldn't have made your post any better. The words ring true!

I play exclusively to have fun. It's not fun when all my favorite PvE weapons get nerfed because of PvP reasons. Like the special ammo reserve nerf. It changed nothing in PvP, it only made PvE less enjoyable. It's not fun to only be able to use pulses and scouts in PvE because AR:s and HC:s simply aren't effective enough (mostly due to nerfed range, damage and accuracy). It's not fun when our supers can't even take out red bar-Knights with one cast of Nova Bomb or Fist of Havoc. It's not fun having Exotic weapons that don't feel exotic anymore and all (but a few) have legendary counterparts that surpass them in every single way. It's not fun ranking up factions and House of Judgement, only to receive a class item (that doesn't even drop at max light). So, I play to have fun, but lately, the patches have made the game substantially less fun to play.

    • Crazy how this is SO obvious to some of us, and such a bizarre and foreign concept to some... Tragic really, this community could be so great if it weren't for the constant bickering, and with the excuse of "I have a right to my opinion"... Blech. If we have a right to our opinion then I have a right to tell every complainer and bicker-er to shut the -blam!- up and have some damn fun for once. So much stress over something so meaningless IRL. HAVE FUN. IT'S A GAME.

      • For alot of people, the fun in games comes from the feeling you get when you get an item you've been grinding for for a long time. To keep the game interesting without that, bungie would need to add a new raid like every 2 months.

      • While I agree with your sentiments, I really wish they would NERF grenades and sniper rifles. Oh and scout rifles.
sorry couldn't help myself! I would like to see Bungie be more active in responding to positive trending posts from the community (relating to game ideas, feedback on possible new modes etc) with monthly or quarterly community feedback mails, and be more clear about the long term developments - how many new raids, planets, subclasses, game modes and exotics are in development. We don't need to see timelines, but getting a view of what's in development would get people's imaginations going. I think the lack of direction / transparency leads to all this negativity. They should also just stop draw a line under the never ending tinkering with balance issues. If they backed it up with a statement, that the game is now generally balanced, and that they are going to ignore NERF and buff posts from now on, then I would expect the NERF comments would eventually fizzle out. The fact that they have been so active in tweaking all of those things just leads to more people making noise about it. People care about the game enough to comment - so they should respond to the good posts and ignore the bad ones
• There was a time I played sports for fun, but now they have become too competitive. There was a time when I played video games for fun, but they too have become competitive. It's human nature, we take such small things and take them to "new heights" as they say. However, this ruins these small things. I wish we could all be kids again, non competitive, fun loving kids.

        • Lol man that's how I have been treating this game since day 1 and I have never been anything but satisfied. Criticism is great, but when it isn't constructive, no one needs to hear it.

        • Well for many, what's best is what's most fun. And many do truly enjoy and have fun when they are dominating the crucible or a raid or whatever. However I do agree that there's a lot of negativity and stress in the community that just doesn't need to be there.

        • I especially agree with the part about raids Everybody on lfg is a sheep and will never do anything differently. Nobody wants to do multi orb on Golgoroth, everybody complains if i don't use defender/nighstalker/sunsinger The game is good its these type of people that ruin it for everyone else imo, thats why i dont play anymore Like ffs people still cheese the old 170 LL raids its such a joke

        • The problem is the game just isn't fun most of the time anymore. The quality of the content is not strong enough to play through 1000 times just for fun. The whole hook of the game is to keep mindlessly running the same boring things over and over in hopes of earning something you need. Also the ONLY things they have focused on in year 2 are competitive things (CoE sigil, IB, Trials, Sparrow racing). It's all based around competing. Bungie also making comments about "being there during" and "being the first to" only reinforce this mentality. I mean, hell, they post the top 3 teams in terms of score for CoE every week. Bungie needs to focus on making content that is actually fun to play for the sake of playing and move away from everything being a competition if they want to change the player bases approach to the game. Everything they do is contradictory anyway. They promote the game being more casual and then make it a tedious grind to get anywhere. They promote it being a social experience and don't provide any social features in game. The list goes on.
