5/10/16- I will be updating this later today with more specifics for the data miners like me. I will put down Boss and specific items earned.
Here is a breakdown of all my three of coins usage for the past three of weeks.
This first set is using the 3ofc with no wait time. Just using them one right after another.
The second set is having a 10 minute timer.
The third set is using a 15 minute timer.
And the last set is using a 20 minute or longer timer.
I only used one coin at a time, so the results will look like this "6-3ofc's= primary"

One thing I have noticed is this. Don't pickup your yellow engrams when they drop. By letting it go to the post office it seems that your chance of getting a yellow faster increases. If you pick it up and its in your inventory,
then it is likely to be longer before your next drop.
I might as well go and say it because someone is going to come up and say "NO way!, nobody can afford to buy that many 3of coins". YES THEY CAN! Specially when your Scrooge McDuck with your vault and a day one player.
Yea, I have blown through a lot of 3of coins and a crapload of strange coin. But for me, there has never been anything for me to spend strange coin on. At one time I had just over 15000 strange coin.
So whats my conclusion?
There is no timer. My quickest time between drops was doing them back to back.
The Cosmodrome is the best place to farm for exotics, next to winters run and eye of the gatelord.
Low level bosses give the same chance of a drop as the high level bosses.
In the end, it is still RNG. All random.
Make sure you have your highest overall light level on when you decrypt them.
So, hope this helps some peeps figure this out.
I will keep updating the numbers as I get drops.
5/7/16- I finally got the Zen Meteor and the gauntlets at 335, but don't want to infuse the zen. So will have to wait for another 335.
9/11/16- The 30fc's seem to be tied to the boss your fighting more than usage and a time limit.
If you fight the same boss over and over, your chances of a drop fall each time. Meaning it may take many tries to get a drop. But if you rotate the killings between bosses and cruciable? you should be able to get drops somewhere in the 3 to 5 coins usage..

4 RepliesEdited by DaGroove: 5/8/2016 10:57:02 PMI did everyone the favor of tallying the results. Obviously the first on was the most extensive with 36 drops out of which two were doubles, whereas the last was the least extensive series of 16 drops, yielding a higher ratio.
USING COINS ONE AFTER ANOTHER. 10.8 3oC per exotic THIS SET IS WAITING 10 MINUTES. 12.1 3oC per exotic THIS SET IS WAITING 15 MINUTES. 12.8 3oC per exotic THIS SET IS WAITING 20 MINUTES OR MORE. 16.1 3oC per exotic
I think we can safely assume that you can use 3oC one after the other without a negative result (depending on activity perhaps) and that the average drop rate of exotics is one every 12.95 three of coins used (for OP, who knows for the rest of us)

5 RepliesEdited by BetrayedRhino85: 5/9/2016 2:06:08 PMAwesome info there and thanks for sharing! My experiences have been quite a bit different, yet are rather very consistent...though I didn't actually document everything along the way. But I do keep track in between EE's obtained from 3oC's and how many it took to get the next one. When waiting 10-15 minutes between 3oC usage, while just casually playing solo (mostly patrol/story), I am pretty much guaranteed an EE within that 5-7 3oC's range-- no more than 10. NOTES and TIPS when using 3oC's for EE's: -- For those that are primarily casual/solo players, patrol (especially Cosmodrome) seems to be by far the best and fastest way to get EE's from 3oC's. Just look for the Taken "Skull Patrols"-- my number one source of EE's. The Taken events that spawn don't seem to produce as well as the the Taken Patrol Champs...at least not in my experiences. Cosmodrome and Dreadnaught seem to have the highest percentage of having Skull Patrols show up, with a Taken Champ at the end. And they are fast and easy...no need to run through 3 areas like on Venus/Moon, as you kill Taken. -- If casual/solo, farm for EE's by rotating with your 3 Guardians-- if you have 3 that is. Use a coin on 1 character and hit patrol (looking for Ultra/Skull patrol) or a mission (Eye of Gate Lord/Winters Scourge/Entropy's Pinnacle...etc.). After defeating the Ultra, switch to your other characters and do the same. Then rinse and repeat so that you have that constant 10-15 minute wait period per character. -- Entropy's Pinnacle is an extremely easy and fast Ultra farm/mission. Race to the "elevator" in the Citadel. Jump across platforms and defeat the mob, leaving special ammo laying around if you have a shotgun/fusion/sidearm equipped. Equip sniper/rocket launcher and grab ammo lying around. Pop 3oC coin/ammo synth (if needed). Trigger Echo spawning. When the Echo spawns race down to the tall floating surface-- the one at the beginning of the main platform. Then just place a couple of quick snipes/rockets to the Echo (even use Icebreaker for regular mission level). Hopefully pick up EE! The whole mission is over in less than 10 minutes. Very fast and easy! -- Farm in different locations/missions/Ultras every time. Not sure if it truly helps, but it does break up the monotony a bit and for me it seems to produce far better results. -- While patrolling the Cosmodrome, the 'Enemy Stopped/Troll Patrol' patrol, Ultra- found in The Divide, counts as a qualifying Major/Ultra for 3oC's and EE.. So if you see that patrol pop up after grabbing an "Eliminate Target Patrol" in The Steps and The Divide, pop a coin and go pop a Kell!
This guy also counts as 7-8% for the Chaperone quest (along with the Taken Champions from Skull Patrols). Makes that step of the quest a breeze for casuals/solo players and those that don't like PvP.
-- Probably old news to everyone, but hey...it just may help one person out there. Transfer all your EE's to your highest Light Guardian before opening. Also equip your highest Light gear before opening. The only time you may not want to transfer to your highest Light character, is if you are after a specific piece of gear for a certain class-- since exotic engrams are "weighted" towards being usable by the class that 'opened' them. But in most cases, just open with the highest Light Guardian, for higher light gear-- for infusing and such. Good Luck farming exotics....to all :]

My brain can't hold all this BS

9 RepliesI've always assumed they were random. All these BS theories floating around are a prime example of human superstition.

16 RepliesEdited by Altus Spera: 5/11/2016 12:46:28 AMFYI: 3oC actives when you complete a crucible match or kill an ultra. The cool down time is 5 minutes until another activation yields the intended chances of a drop occuring based on how many youve used and not recieved an exotic from. "When" you use/consume a 3oC is irrelevant as long as it is between activations. You can still revieve exotic drops if you consume and activate them in a shorter time span than 5 minutes, but the drop rate has been made artificially low for this time frame because people used to farm exotics by suiciding on ultras and Bungie didnt want that. SRL was probably the best way to casually farm with 3oC because the wait time between activations was just over 5 minutes.
-
I stopped using 3oC...something has changed and not for the better
-
1 ReplyIt has never taken me more than 12 3oc, I never farm them quicker than 10-15 mins between usages. 90% of the time it's about 1 per 6 -8 3oc. The other times its less or a couple more. I would be pissed if it took 22 3oC to get a drop.
-
I haven't been playing too much recently but when I do I use just one 3 of coin per day and I net usually 2 exotics per week. I haven't bought 3oc in a month because I always have enough, I learned that blowing through a few everyday doesn't always seem to be the most efficient way to use them.
-
2 RepliesFeels to me that the first week of any dlc the drop rate is much higher than normal, then after that they knock it back down. This goes for anything, ships, shaders, legendary's the lot. Probably just my imagination though;)
-
4 RepliesI think they nerfed the drop rate. I've been eating 3 of coins like candy and I used to get a pretty good amount of exotics. But since the update I've noticed a very big drop in the exotics I'm getting. Just my experience. Oh and the last 6 I've gotten have all been specials.

13 RepliesEdited by BFGesus: 5/9/2016 7:03:05 AMI think your statistics are bullshit, especially the 20 minute bracket. If you really did use that many coins and waited at least 20 minutes between uses, that would come up to be over 83 hours total just for that bracket. Assuming you farmed six hours a day, it would take you almost two weeks to do. In one session, you used 32 coins. That would take you 12 hours of straight farming to do. I don't believe someone would do that. I also can't believe that in some cases you didn't get an engrams until over 20 3oCs. Compared to me, which I use one every sixteen minutes, I always get at least one engram every ten uses or less. I manage to save up enough to get between 70-100 3oC per week.
-
1 ReplyI assume this is PVE since you talk about not picking up the engram. But I've personally had better luck with them in PVP.

whatcha got there? numbers?

The most sc I have ever had was 150 back in year one
-
2 RepliesEdited by turn1racelogic: 5/9/2016 4:25:08 PM15000 strange coins at one point? Wtf? The most I ever had was around 1200.

3 Replies15k Strange Coins.. I.. wow. I thought my 630 something at some point was a lot.. Scrooge McDuck indeed!
-
8 RepliesSo, besides the strikes, who are your favorite ultras to target for 3oC farming?
-
5 RepliesCan you get boot engrams as a warlock, considering there are no warlock exotic boots? I know once you have the engram, it can decrypt for other classes, but my main is a warlock and I never seem to get boot engrams. I want them for my hunter. Maybe just RNG.
-
1 ReplySo.. I got lucky getting six engrams from 30 coins, back to back?
-
5 RepliesStill no zen meteor for me :'(
-
4 RepliesDoes anyone know if the stacking affect carries over through logging out and logging in?
-
5 RepliesI use one 3oC every crucible match and get one exotic in every 5 matches by using 5 3oC over the course :)
-
2 RepliesEdited by Primus71: 5/9/2016 8:38:51 PMLol. I did the Draksis glitch, the original one and out of 40 3oc's I got 5 exotics. I used the one after another and as fast as I could. Agree, there is no timer. Oh yeah, thanks for your effort and heads up.

2 RepliesThe really sad part is I just wonder how long it takes Bungie to shut all this down with some nerf or other! Don't forget, people! "Fun" and "Easy" are descriptions that Bungie does not like us to have.
