He sighed as he rode the lift to the bridge. The ship's XO was tired of being out of the loop, of being just as in the dark as the rest of the crew.
The lift opened and he stepped out onto the bridge of the shield. He wasn't exactly angry, just mildly annoyed.
"Okay Viola, I can't stand it anymore, what are we really doing out here?"

Delta walks in a little bit after you. "I doubt the general would give an AI that information."
-
"You'd think that, but you'd be surprised what he tells her. She is driving the ship after all."
-
"I'll still never understand who's bright idea it was to put the AI in charge of everything. Do you have any idea what could happen if it decided it didn't need us anymore?"
-
"Well aware of what a rogue AI can do, Viola isn't going to go rogue on us."
-
"Perhaps. But just like humans, they can change they're minds in an instant. And this one could theoretically kill everyone on board if it changed its mind about us."
-
"So could a few members of the crew, the engineers, the men who maintain the nukes, he'll even the doc."
-
"The doc? That apeshit lady? How?"
-
"She knows more about ways to kill people than you realize. To heal there must be damage, by learning medicine she learned how to cause pain and suffering as a byproduct."
-
"True... I'll remember that. I still don't like her though. She's apeshit and she threw someone into the brig just for doing what he needed to to survive. And she's too goddamn uptight."
-
"Excuse me? That bastard eats humans, I don't care that he does it to survive, he's a threat. He's lucky to be alive, I should have spaced him long ago."
-
"Yeah, but he hasn't made an attempt in any of our lives to sate his 'appetite' yet so I don't see why it's that big of a deal."
-
"You said it yourself, yet. I don't want to write a letter to the family of one of my men because some creature got hungry."
-
"I see your point, but there has to be thousands of us here. At most, he'd kill one person before we put him down. 1 out of 1000s... Besides, he trusts me. He's not gonna do that, trust me. I know."
-
"I'd like to, really I would. I'd rather not worry about whether or not he's going to eat someone, but I have to do that. I can't not keep the safety of my men in my mind."
-
"Look, the crazy lady found something similar enough to human flesh for him to eat. And he's not going to kill someone on board. He knows the consequences... And I'd be the first to hunt him down if he got outta line. Maybe you should put a kill switch in him or something. He tries anything, he dies before it happens."
-
"We're looking into that, but for now he stays where he can't hurt anyone and nobody can hurt him."
-
"People could hurt him pretty easily. Hell, I could pinch through those bars and break his neck if I felt like it."
-
"Not with the guard there you couldn't. Not to mention the turrets in the brig."
-
"You ever heard of an EMP pulse? Or a flash bang?"
-
"Ever hear of hardened tech? The guards one of JT's men, a member of the hunters legion. They have all kinds of toys and abilities, one of which is their helmet which filters light and sound."
-
"Fine... But I don't think you understand my power. You know how many people I've killed?"
-
"You know how many cocky people who've made veiled threats against me and my men? Let's get one thing clear, you keep pissing me off and life's gonna get real hard." This was clearly no veiled threat, this man was becoming agitated.
-
"I'm not threatening and I have no intention of breaking him out. I'm just making a point. Y'know half the people that have the augs and shit I do die from a mental overload, and most that survive have horrible migraines and shit. Me? I've had none of that."
-
"That means you're considerably lucky. Why would you risk it if over half have such problems?"
-
"Because I strived to be the best. The guys over at Psychotech told me I had a pretty good chance and I was on the streets before that and no one gave two shits about me, so it's not like anyone was gonna mourn my loss of it went wrong."
