This is more a rant than a plea for help and it goes for all the souls games not just the 3rd I'm playing, and loving by the way.
But one thing that pisses me off are the NPC side quest lines. I get it; u have to figure things out yourself in souls, listen to npc dialogue, read item descriptions, etc. But for me, I can never follow them. I've only finished a few (over DS 1 and 2) with guide help. And I know I'm missing out on a lot of good content.
I'm sorry but they're impossible to follow, many of them require backtracking that u wouldn't do but is expected of u. I dunno, I search every nook and cranny and I still can never follow these quest lines...

1 ReplyEdited by DjNormal: 4/23/2016 4:25:19 PMI missed so many steps in DaS3 and still managed to finish most of them. It seems there's only certain key events you have to trigger, but most of the steps can be skipped. I looked some up and I was way past the parts I should have done, but I went back and did some key event and the quest would jump forward 3-4 steps. For instance, the hollow quest, I never talked to Horace after Anri in the catacombs or did the thing with the assassin. Ultimately the lady told me to go to where the wedding ceremony was supposed to happen and bam... I was at the end of the quest. *attempting to avoid spoilers with being vague* Then I screwed up the ending, oops. I skipped several parts of onion bro's quest by going back near the end of the game and giving him his armor back. That said, I think Dark Souls 3 is considerably more lenient with the quests than past games (including Bloodborne). It really boils down to exploration and choices. If you don't explore each area thoroughly, you'll always miss quest steps. The downside is that your first (blind) playthrough takes forever.

7 RepliesThe only thing I ask for the Souls series and Bloodbourne is a f***ing map. It doesn't have to include waypoints or markers of whatever. A basic map would be nice. A hand drawn map would be also be fine.

Lol remember the days of cheatcc, and cheatcodes(dot)com... Think back to like abs odyssey or the classic tomb raiders. Hell the guides for those games, were freaking novels. The game itself would sometime give absolutely no hint to certain things. Fromsoft kind of doing the same thing. They know you'll look it up because these things are so difficult and it's fun trying to work through this maze puzzle of a game. You pvping and suddenly see a new weapon? Time to hit up research!

Just look online you will never get it normally

2 RepliesThat's why my first run is without guides at all so if I fail a quest line, no bigge, I'll just follow it in my next character.
-
I usually complete a good amount on my first run, then on my second run I use a guide. The ones I found hard were the ones in Bloodborne.. Mainly because I didn't learn 90% of the NPCs were talked through doors/windows until the end of the game! >.<

Agreed. Personally, I'm a little stressed out about losing the chance of getting some really good gear or items. Especially around the swamp/forest before the Abyss Watchers. I just beat them, but I'm gonna explore everywhere I can before proceeding, despite that place being a cluster-blam!- of a maze.
-
You're not really meant to complete them all. One of the things that make me respect FromSoftware so much is that they still have the gall to put things in their game most players won't find. That's pretty rare these days

The whole thing about Dark Souls games is not holding your hand and your character not being privy to information you don't know about. You are your character in Dark Souls and they are just as confused as you are.
-
My first playthrough is always blind, and whatever happens happens. My new game plus, I where I research the npc quests and follow them, because I'll never figure them out myself.
-
1 ReplyIm using the Strategy guide and still managed to mess up two of the npc quests....
-
I get what your saying, I skipped the entire quest line for everyone in Oden chapel in bloodborne except the old lady and the lady that gives and third cord. I suggest paying attention, explore everything that's not explored,Everything. And look up guides for new game plus or new chareter if you don't care for blind play through

There are plenty of wiki available to explain everything. Just start searching.
-
Yeah, Souls games are the best, but they're notorious for not explaining anything. You either have to constantly be reading up on stuff or just screwing up all over the place, learning from your mistakes. I've already made a new character on DS3 due to just not knowing certain things and messing things up on my first play through.

That's part of the fun. The game (all of them) require you to pay close attention to what NPCs say and deduce their next move or behavior they don't appreciate. If you make the right call to start with, they delve deeper into their personal lore and give you insight on the next move. Sometimes I'll read a guide on what to do, but it's so satisfying when you figure it all out.

Stop skipping dialog... they really aren't that complicated >.>

6 RepliesWhich NPC quest are you referring to?

2 Replies"Backtracking that is expected of you but you never do" What? I find myself running all over the map all of the time!
