I've seen quite a bit of uproar over the ability to purchase armor with silver, specifically uproar over Bungie "lying". Many people have claimed that Bungie stated that micro-transactions would never involve the sell of anything other than cosmetic items; however, I have yet to find one statement by Bungie that entails this claim. If anybody has an actual statement from Bungie stating this, please do everyone the favor of linking it here.
EDIT: If you are making the claim that the statement exists, then please link to the source. No one is inclined to believe you otherwise.
EDIT 2: This post is not for the discussion of whether the armor available for sale is considered as "cosmetic".

6 RepliesI have a feeling this MT update is paving the way for a pay-to-win scenario down the road a couple of months, maybe even for Destiny2

Edited by BlazeLord7: 4/1/2016 8:18:26 PMLol its only for those saddos that think they'll get an advantage if they spend £100 buying microtransaction gear. Seeing as you will get 3 of these packages a week what's the point of buying them. Let the idiots be parted from their money.
-
2 RepliesI think the real reason people are in uproar is because they don't want to pay for the armour because it looks cool. That's the real reason

Bungie lied? And this is news how? -_-
-
Great salt thread, thank u. Also, isn't it a package u can purchase or farm out two other ways weekly in game? I'm confused. Don't care about any of it, it's random level 3 armor so it's cosmetic, bottom line. Gotta love the haters though...
-
You are right. The package contents are purely cosmetic even though they reward armor but it's defense is merely 3. So it is by no means Pay-to-win.

3 RepliesNot to mention, people who religiously play PvP or PvE already have armor with the perks they want. So if they just so happen to get a Desolate or Spektar piece of gear with the same perks, just infuse them up. Nothing has changed, they had the exact same perks their original armor had. Which is pretty much just a cosmetic change. The only way this would be pay to win is if the armor came straight out of the box at 335 with perks so good they are leagues above anything you could ever get by just grinding the game. Example, if the Spektar gear came with a perk that say in PvP, getting a precision kill starts health regain and you also get an over shield, and buying it would be the only way to get it since that perk is not obtainable on any other piece of armor, that would be a Pay 2 Win armor set. As of now, it is still just a cosmetic armor set.

7 RepliesHere is the full article from oct 5th if anyone wants to read through it.
Introducing Eververse Trading Company Created by DeeJOct 5 2015 Introducing Eververse Trading Company We’re bringing Tess back. We’ve already said that there’s more to discover in The Taken King – and there is – but beyond the content available in the launch window of The Taken King, our goal is to continue creating experiences that will keep the game fresh, fun, and surprising. Today, we wanted to share with you a new element we’re incorporating into Year Two of Destiny. This coming Tuesday, October 13th, Tess Everis will return to The Tower with a new look, a new storefront, and some new items to sell, courtesy of Eververse Trading Company. Initially, Tess will offer eighteen brand new emotes. Like the trio of emotes offered via The Taken King Collector’s Edition, these emotes are completely optional, and won’t impact the action game in any way. To acquire these items, you’ll first need to pick up some “Silver,” a new in-game currency that will be available for purchase through the store associated with your console. Images and descriptions for each available emote, along with pricing information for Silver will be made available Tuesday, October 13th, alongside the launch of the in-game storefront right here on Bungie.net as soon as the content is live. If you’re not interested in what Tess has to offer, you won’t ever be forced to pluck an item off of her shelf. You’ll still receive updates to the game, and you won’t lose a Crucible encounter or fail to clear a Raid because you didn’t have the right Eververse Trading Company emote equipped. Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests. If you’re still skeptical, you can log in next week and take a look for yourself. We’ll be dropping some free Silver into your account so you can purchase an emote or two and become legend through the power of dance. As always, we’ll be watching and listening to your feedback, and we’ll talk more soon. See you in The Tower.
They confirmed in their latest Twitch stream that you can buy Silver Treasures which have a chance at giving you specific armor. The video with Deej pretty much explains it all.

1 ReplyEdited by Ibex: 4/1/2016 3:06:15 PMThere's a fun side-game in Destiny; it's called, "Didn't Bungie say______?".
-
1 ReplyHas 3 light infusion needed. Not pay to win.

they never said purely cosmetic. As for the rewards, they are random and the perks are random. People who play the game can obtain 3 boxes per week. If you want more chances at items, buy it. The perks are obtainable on other armor as well.
-
Well your mom said just once but now we are going steady. Once you get that taste, man...

And they have

Companies say lots of things and aren't obligated to back those statements up. I'm hard on Bungie, but in this particular case I don't see the problem. I would be remiss to point out if you buy the armor, you've either got some disposable income or a disposable brain. There's no need. None. Unless of course you've got extra silver, and don't want to buy dances.

What they're selling is vanity. It's 3 Light. You literally have to put your own earned armour in it. Weapons are a different story because they actually do something against people.

Edited by DSharp018: 4/1/2016 12:54:53 PMFrom the article "This coming Tuesday, October 13th, Tess Everis will return to The Tower with a new look, a new storefront, and some new items to sell, courtesy of Eververse Trading Company. Initially, Tess will offer eighteen brand new emotes." I can take a look and see if the "introducing Eververse" is still available to read. But yea. That line was there from the start if I'm not mistaken. Bungie never said they wouldn't go beyond purely cosmetic. And that is what people who read the damn thing were worried about to begin with, and still are. Especially when they looked in the database and saw a consumable item that was described as able to "increase drop rates for an end game activity" Edited for accuracy

It's not pay to win cause the armor u get provides no advantage over other legendary armor

Are armor pieces not cosmetics as well?
