Wind is a perfect example of why the earth cant be round. Even by your own spherist definitions wind should be impossible. Although wrong about this and most other ideas, Newton proposed that objects in motion stay in motion unless acted upon by a force. Wind is an object that it is composed of small particles. If the world were round and contained by an atmosphere, once a small breeze started it would gain manifold force until it was blowing at least as fast as the speed you believe the earth rotates. It would just keep blowing round and round forever. This would turn the surface of your ball into a giant maelstrom as wind tore away the very face of the "globe" like string cheese. Edit: Friction would be irrelevant, as the winds would be going far faster than the earth's rotational base speed of 1000mph.
