That's right. The reason why I (and many others) have no shame in switching to icebreaker to get ammo is because special ammo not spawning at the start of a match is a mistake on bungie's part. So far, the negatives I've experienced about this change are that in elimination game types, the team that is taken out in round one is immediately put at a disadvantage. It takes about 30 seconds or so for the first box to spawn, and often times the first round of a match will end just before the box spawns, or as it is spawning. This gives the winning team of the first round the chance to grab ammo, while the losing team is left with none and they end up getting easily picked off in the second round, sometimes before even the second round's box can spawn.
This leads to an unbalanced playing field, as some teams can be easily beaten simply because they were eliminated before getting the chance to grab ammo, and this is what also leads to many teams camping near boxes to get the ammo or simply switching to icebreaker to insure ammo in their clip for the second round. My experience in Crimson Doubles felt very unbalanced at first because of this, as I was left many times desperately trying to get sniper ammo to contest the enemy that relentlessly domed me every time because I was forced to try and challenge them with my primary. After switching to icebreaker like every enemy I saw was doing, I quickly saw why people are doing it.
Call me a noob if you'd like, it's irrelevant. After seeing the imbalance of how early rounds play out due to only one team getting special first, it's only obvious that a smart player would seek to even the playing field by setting themselves up with ammo in case they are left unable to grab some first. Anyone not doing so is just fighting an unnecessary uphill battle because "switching to icebreaker for ammo is cheating". So if you see me using Icebreaker in pvp, report me if it makes your butt hurt less. It's not going to stop me or anyone else from avoiding the stress of trying to primary gun battle a team without special ammo ready. At least before the update, everyone started a match on the same level ground and didn't have to worry about grabbing ammo to survive the snipers and shotguns in the next round.
Edit: After spending more of this weekend doing Trials and some more doubles, I think that using NLB and sidearm is a better option to spawn some ammo while still being able to play a sniper play style from round 1. I'm surprised we were trending at one point, and the amount of people so quick to try and hate on me is astounding. To those with open minds and good intentions on this forum, you are awesome. To those who insist on being toxic and salty, I'll see you in the crucible ;)

Go for it. Part of the game.
-
1 ReplySo you preferred it when every game was just people camping hard scoping at the back of the map did you? By the looks of things you weren't even hitting head shots with your 24% precision ratio.
-
Just use no land beyond and side arm, it's the same thing you spawn with ammo every time
-
The no special from start is to encourage primary use in crucible. I have had to adapt to the change and had no issue. Just have to work on what style of primary works best for you
-
I use icebreaker to get special and here's why: I'm a scrub who needs to use special as a crutch because I suck with a primary
-
3 RepliesOr here's another crazy idea, be the team that wins the first round and take the special ammo? If you truly are as good as you think with primary and win most gun fights like you stated, you should have no problem winning round one and taking the special boxes. Learn to adapt.
-
So I'm hearing this from the post "I'm not good with primaries
-
I actually use icebreaker legit as I actually really like it
-
I can't use my primary - basically this whole post
-
2 RepliesEdited by Ristar: 2/13/2016 7:29:46 PMI didn't rely on Special for Crimson Doubles and won every game with an AR. Your elimination stats show that you have more Sniper kills than both Primaries. So justify yourself however you like, still cheap.
-
So if you use invective instead is that ok with the cry-babes cos it's year 2 ? Not a lot of difference really ! It's bungie that's messed up keep fooking about with the game cos cry babies keep crying
-
As long as you're not cheating, I couldn't care less. Nearly everyone uses whatever combination of weapons & gear that gives them the best chance of winning. If someone's mad at you, they're just upset that you're better than them.
-
1 ReplyNot always true. My teammate and I went up against another team that was using this exploit and they were self rezzing warlocks on top of it. We went on to spank them that game with them not even taking a match and still trying their little icebreaker loophole. People just need to practice and get better. But most would rather take the easy way out. I'll just keep mopping the floor with said scrubs.
-
I haven't done it yet, but its tempting. Especially when the other team exploits Ice breaker or gets special first.
-
All these children mad because they don't have their one shot kill weapons at the start of the match anymore and can't camp all day. It's a special weapon kids, not a primary. I hope they disable ammo regen next and make it so you lose all special ammo upon spawn. Maybe you bad kids will actually try using their primaries instead of sitting a boxes all match.

1 ReplyDestiny PVP is not competitive and is nothing more than abusing the most recent Bungie -blam!- up. Don't apologize or feel the need to explain yourself. You're simply making the most of their mistakes. It's such a shame because the mechanics in this game are unmatched by anything else out there. But for that, it would have died long long ago.

5 RepliesYour just shit
-
You get teabagged and danced on and you just said why.
-
Because I suck
Didn't even have to read the rest.
-
All you kids crying about this clearly never played halo2 or 3, it was kill or be killed with AR and BR until you got lucky enough to pick up a secondary or unless you killed someone and took it and used what little ammo they had left
-
I like calling people noobs. Noob.
-
13 RepliesGit gud with primary weapons you scrub. All your problems will be solved.
-
Why can't you idiots use primaries?? Do you seriously need a one shot weapon to be good in this game?
-
I was expecting something along the lines of: Because I -blam-ing can. As long as this shit is in the game might as well take advantage of it. I mean it's not like everyone was using Thorn when it was the only viable weapon for trials. I didnt feel like it imbalanced matches to much if one team got the special though. Most second games they were camping with snipers while we sat at the special closed to out spawn.
-
1 ReplyGET GOOD USING PRIMARIES! FOR GOD'S SAKE WHY DO PEOPLE NOT REALISE THAT IT IS THE WEAPON YOU ARE MEANT TO USE THE MOST!
-
Sounds to me someone can't win without a sniper. I read the edit, i think its a lie or you wouldn't have to use snipers at the beginning of any match to do some damage. Its not a mistake on there part, bungi saw people using special weapons as primaries and thought it should be changed. Imo, best thing that's happened to pvp since.... Idk when lol. Oh, and just because "every enemy you faced" (which is a crock of poo right there) used ice breaker, does that mean you have to? Be a part of the solution man, not the problem.
