What we really need is good weapon balance. Day one, before any nerf, when you played crucible you got killed by a variety of weapons. Mostly by primary and when it was by a special it wasn't always a shotgun or always a sniper. Fusion rifles! I was really bad at PvP back then. I considered myself an expert at dying. Everything was used back then. Auto rifles were most popular but didn't dominate too severely. I got killed by hand cannons, pulse rifles and scouts too. It was more according to the player's preference, not meta. Then the crucible got dominated by the Suros Regime. The first nerf. It was done heavy handed and ruined all ARs. Then the Vex was op. Nerfed to trash. We saw the beginning of meta. This is when the slide-shotgun, blink-shotgun and around the corner crouching with shotgun stuff became prevalent. People want a nerf when its always the same 3 or 4 weapons killing them. Whenever a weapon absolutely has to be nerfed it must be specifically THAT weapon and the aspect of the weapon that needs nerfing- damage, range or ROF. Not the entire class. I wish we could go back to day one specs, then reasonably nerf that which absolutely had to be nerfed. The crucible would see more diversity in weapons and playing style. There would be fewer demands for nerfs and there will be, what's most important- FUN! Lost Sols has a post about this. He explains it better. All nerfing does is change the meta, which calls for new nerfs on the new meta. Having a wider variety of competitive weapons will solve this. Players will gravitate to the weapons that fit their play style the most instead of compromising and conforming to the play style that best fits the current meta.
