So on two separate occasions last night I jumped in for a couple checkpoints just for a small shot at ghorn. I have 2 level 32 characters so I was taking the relic most of the time. And in both situations I saw multiple people using fusion rifles. Wtf is that, where do people get these ideas? Just wondering if there is now an influx of noobs that have never beaten atheon who are now level 31 trying to take him down. And as a reference to anyone who thinks it's the most effective way to defeat atheon it's not. The charge rate is probably taking the time of two sniper shots bare minimum. Not to mention the lack of a crit zone whilst using a fusion. In conclusion don't do it if you have any amount of decent weapons.
Edit:
I can see that there are some strong opinions on this topic, and to clarify I'm not saying a fusion rifle can't be useful in the atheon encounter. I'm simply stating my opinion that when it comes to dps on atheon himself I find that a decent sniper can definitely outdo any fusion going. When it comes to being efficient I prefer a team using weapons that do max damage in the shortest amount of time.
Edit 2:
I see a lot of references to the vog fusion being a good weapon for this encounter, and just to clarify I'd have no problem with someone using that weapon. If that was the case I'd at least have some faith you'd done the raid at some point. The people I saw using fusions were light/beware and vendor 1.0 weapons not even at 300. Should leave these at home or better yet dismantle.

I use it, I've been playing since day 1. Not because I don't know what I am doing, because I do what I want 😜 Besides Atheon is easy. It's Omnigul I want to set the score with 😡

The only reason I use fusions on the atheon fight is because oracles. But I don't use it on atheon though I only use my heavy and primary.

there are no crits because if ignores armore and does full damafe

8 RepliesEdited by DouglasDoom: 1/9/2015 10:21:55 AMYeah... about that... you know that weapon... the one called murmur... yeah max it out, change it from solar to arc, and shoot atheon two times. it deals more damage than an entire clip of maxed out vision of confluence. Don't believe me? Thats cool. Keep doing 3+ teleports when you could be finished in less than 2. Like legit 1 and a 1/2. Also for all of my fellow guardians who still run VOG. Both the Templar, and Atheon, take more damage from Arc damage than from any other damage type. It will not show up as extra damage/critical. But its true. Just as an example "jolders hammer with solar/void damage, will do 10 damage per shot. Take the exact same weapon add arc damage and voila! Like 15 damage instead of 10. Havent tested damage types on bosses in the new raid yet. I will make a post about it when I figure it out. #testdifferentweapons #bosslevelbitches

Well, if you are taking out the oracles, and have a vision and a decent launcher, the Praetorian's Foil with oracle disruptor is actually pretty awesome... Personally, i'll stick to my Icebreaker.
-
Hey just a little tip if you don't do this, run VoG on normal and then on hard. You get double rolls on exotics. Me and my buddy started doing this the other week, both have gallys off normal Atheon. He got an icebreaker in normal chest. If it wasn't RNG id say normal has better exotic drops. With the exception of the Vex Mythoshard I get those all the time..

9 RepliesMost effective way, in my experience: Relic bubble WoL Snipe like crazy No explosives as they cause Atheon to move around, meaning the snipers can't get their 15-20k crits. Two runs max. Not saying it's the best, but it's worked every time I've run it. Now I'm curious though. What's the damage per bolt with TV and WoL? It'd have to be 2000 or above to be better than P&T, about 2800 to be better than IB. But you don't have to worry about getting crits. On a good run with P&T I can get two full clips of crits into him. That's over 180,000 damage... I probably average about 120,000 before TV ends. IB would be even higher. Some things to consider.

Murmur and light of the pit are actually great for oracles . 1-2 charges on hard and the oracles are gone . Besides , fusion rifles CAN get a decent DPS on bosses . Phogoth is one example . Not dealing precision damage means you don't have to worry as much on where you hit him , as it will do the exact same damage everywhere . And most fusion rifles have a lot of projectiles per charge , for examples sake 8 projectiles. Each projectile deals around 300 damage on average . So that's 300 x 8, so if all shots hit ( and most FR's have a tight grouping ) that's about 2400 damage anywhere you hit him . That's WITHOUT times vengeance . And many FR's have way more than 8 projectiles per charge .

Edited by Bane: 1/8/2015 7:25:41 PMDude wtf theres nothing wrong with using fusion rifles. The murmur is perfect for taking out oracles and taking a chunk out of atheons health. We took him out in 2 portal runs.

I haven't tested since the unpatch of pocket infinity, but I had already tested it to be a 2nd only to gjallahorn when fully maxed on Atheon. But with putting it back to its original I haven't tested. Will look again.

2 RepliesBefore I got Ice Breaker I did. During Time's Vengeance, each beam coming out does about 1700 damage, which, when multiplied by however many beams were hitting the target, is a not-inconsequential amount of damage. Since then, of course, I've seen the light. And it does solar damage and generates its own ammo. :)

4 RepliesA maxed Murmur wrecks the oracles at the gatekeeper and Atheon fight with one shot.
-
I used it yesterday because I ran out of ammo on my primary and heavy. Besides, the praetorian foil wrecks against oracles.
-
Yeah, I've been using a fusion rifle since week 2 and it is beneficial. I find the fusion rifle better balanced for fighting both Atheon and the praetorian or oracles in the portals. My fusion rifle usually has the praetorian on the Venus/green/jungle/right portal side half dead before the relic holder gets to him. I usually use Gjallahorn to DPS Atheon, so I can't use my Icebreaker at the same time for the crit hits. I carry over twice the ammo for my void fusion rifle (Final Rest II- 300 before DLC, new 331 after DLC) than I would with my void sniper (Y09 Longbow) and the damage per charge is pretty close to crit hits with the sniper (12.5k vs ~14k). If I miss the crit just once with a sniper it's even damage.

Actually my mythoclast is pretty effective believe it or not
-
I have never seen anyone use a fusion rifle on Atheon. Doesn't seem effective.
-
5 RepliesWell I dont know about you but my very high impact fusion does 1000 per bolt x 6 bolts, i make that 6k damage per shot with a damn good ROF x6 shots = 36k damage per mag and i can get off 16 shots, I make that 96k damage per times vengance

Edited by munkt0r: 1/8/2015 2:11:36 PMThe light/beware maxed with increased range while aiming down sights and a weapons of light actually comes very close to icebreaker DPS if not a bit better due to ammo capacity. I also feel like the time allowed on time's vengeance by your relic bearer's ability to get through and onto the platform in a timely fashion dictates which weapon will outperform on DPS. If you have 20+ seconds on middle platform, your icebreaker will run to zero ammo and you'll be firing your primary. The fusion will not hit the same max damage as the icebreaker (with weapons of light or not) but CAN potentially do more damage depending on ammo and Atheon's erratic at times movement choices. I guess what i'm saying is, you may be right that some people don't know what they're doing - but some people have actually done it multiple times and found benefits to various weapons in that encounter over the standard "icebreaker for everything" lol =) I've even 1 portal phased him with friends on hard utilizing 300 light beware and 300 gjallahorn. We jump up out of the bubble, rocket launch atheon, then land and spam fusion rifle shots. 1 portal phase, 1 time in the center, 1 dead atheon...0 icebreakers =)

2 RepliesDude.. Ive done the raid more time that i wanna mention.. And to be honest.. Ive taken aetheon down quicker with a fusion rifle team than with ppl sniping and rockets(not every1 is lucky to have a ghjalahorn).. But then.. I kinda find it ridiculous that you go on a rant on how other ppl play.. Every1 has a playing style.. Which they would have mastered by now.. Yes.. Some are less efdective than others.. But.. Thats something you gotta suck up and deal with.. If you dont like the way the other team mates are playing.. Dude.. leave.. Go and make friends that suit your paticular style of playing.. And for the love of gawd.. Keep the complaining for when ya got ya headphones on and ya yelling at the tv.. (we all do it... So dont laugh..) its a game.. Ment to be enjoyed... If its anything but.. YA DOING IT WRONG

16 RepliesWhy do people use Golden Gun on him???

Edited by TheGodAmongMen: 1/8/2015 1:53:34 PMI used a fusion rifle on Atheon for a very long time. most snipers do:17000-19000 (if you crit) I don't really know if thats with or without WoL With WoL a high impact fusion rifle can hit around 3k per hit, there are 6 beams that come out so you average landing 5-6 beams, that's roughly the same DPS, depending on the sniper it may only hold 3-6 shots. most fusion rifles hold 5-7. The damage is honestly REALLY close, and thats if the snipers are only landing crits. I use a G-horn as my heavy so I don't really care what I use in the secondary slot. I personally like a good fusion rifle, obviously don't ever use them if you aren't mid.

1 ReplyEdited by Anbu Hunter: 1/8/2015 1:42:47 PMA full team of Pocket infinity users will destroy Atheon.
-
Have a look at the fusion rifle equipped on my hunter, that thing wrecks everything- atheon included
-
When I'm low on primary ammo, have 0 for heavy ammo, using a fusion rifle is better than hurling harsh language at Atheon.
-
Fusion Rifles are good for supplicants because they won't explode if killed like that and the Oracles, if they are using the Fusion Rifle on Atheon, then there is a problem, they should be using their primary for him in this case
