If Destiny takes place way in the future, after the Golden Age of mankind, where we achieved technological brilliance....why do all the rusted cars look like they're from 1998?

Because it's Russia. In real life, they're still waiting for DVD players...

Mailsack this question to Deej! It's a pretty valid question and we need a straight answer for it.

1 ReplyBut if we knew, there'd be no point in the DLC..:

3 RepliesIf the children are scared anyways.....where are the children?

We're probably playing in some kind of simulation. Like Neo when he's in the Matrix.

Edited by Corvyn: 10/16/2014 2:25:10 PMThe question no one is asking is why we're cool with leaving astronaut corpses all over the moon.
-
There is a Titan sash from the speaker saying it is an ancient golden era design from the storied year of 1993
-
The second thing that happened during the Golden Age, is that retro stuff became super popular. Those engines are really Mr. Fusions, they're just engineered to look like ICEs because cool.

2 RepliesBecause it's in Russia. Russians aren't known for their fancy new cars.
Because they always crash'em
Edited by k98Rifleman: 10/9/2014 1:44:59 AMRelevance over substance...we can easily relate to those rusted cars in Russia than something more advanced and ahead of our time.
-
Because russia... and also because maybe the collapse happened in 1998 and we just didn't know about it
-
1 ReplyI've asked this numerous times actually. No one seems to have a legitimate answer.

2 RepliesI have a theory! The reason why they look like they're from 1998 is because of the fact that those were cars around the time we discovered the traveler which was around 2020 so my theory is is that when we were attacked by the darkness people fled their vehicles and or died in them so after YEARS without movement through mother natures conditions the cores rusted to nothing but the frame making them look like a older version of the car

Why am I hungry? :(

Funny one of the guys I play destiny with always brings that up. "what the hell is with these combustion engines...we are supposed to have centuries of prosperity and technological marvels...we've colonized multiple planets and we're still rocking the gas engine???!??!"

2 Repliesits russia. you know how much old shit is in russia?
-
6 RepliesI don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain.

Isn't it FANTASTIC the only place you explore on planet Earth is Russia.
-
Because its Russia. A few hundred years from now after the world is super advanced, the average Russian citizen drives a 1998 Daewoo.... Seems on point to me.
-
Maybe that was the superior tech? To be honest, the real answer is this: not everyone can afford to superior tech. Maybe the golden age tech just costs too much or isn't allowed for civilians?

4 RepliesI actually made this thread about a week before this game came out, and the general consensus was "Shut up it'll be explained in-game". Mhm, yep. I'm loving the explanation.

1 ReplyEdited by TwoGZ: 10/8/2014 7:54:45 PMThe Cosmodrome shuttles all look way older than our ships, too. Is it because: A. Traveler is a giant hamster ball. Doesn't need wheels, so didn't give us any of that sweet flying car goodness B. There was no Golden Age. Either it was BS the Speaker dreamed up, or the Vex went back in time and changed it. C. Jet cars are hard to draw, and Bungie was in a rush to finish the E3 demo.

7 RepliesPossible Theory: Premise 1)) just because it is the year 2014, does not mean I can afford a 2014 car, instead I drive a 1999 because its what I can afford. Luckily for many, paying for transportation somewhere is cheaper than buying the vehicle that transported you there. Premise 2)) Perhaps the traveler came in the early 2,000's (judging by the oh-so-familliar look of the astronaut suits in the intro), and like the intro says technology improved incredibly fast. Premise 3)) we don't know how long ago, and how soon after the traveler arrived that the "apocalypse" happened. My guess is about 5-10 years after the traveler arrived, seeing as it is the mortal enemy of the Darkness and that the Darkness has nothing better to do than to try and seek it out and destroy it. Conclusion)) following Premise 2 and Premise 3 we could deduce that if the darkness arrived even 10 years later, that would have made it 2010 when "fit hit the shan", yet we would have still had a massive jump in technology, allowing for space travel and what not. In this time period though (following premise 1) we would have plenty of people who couldn't afford those fancy 2008 hover-cars, so they still drive their 1998 around. And thankfully that warp-ship ride to Venus didn't cost to much, thus some guy buys a ticket and flys out to venus or mars with his crappy 1998 car... But, oh no, apocalypse in 2010... Now crappy 1998 cars all over the post-apocalyptic solar system. Notice how the vehicles seen in the tower (last remaining city) aren't crappy cars? Yeah, they're all spaceships, cause this city has been lived in for a long long time, so the new "crappy 1998 car" is an old 2402 space ship (awh, I wanted a 2412 space ship!!) and actual "cars" are basically relics and would be the equivalent to substituting a watch with a Mayan sundial Just a theory, sorry if this came out hard to follow, I'm feeling a little scatterbrained and tired at the moment.

i drive a 98 Honda Accord and its one of the best cars i owned aside from my 96 Jeep Cherokee

2 RepliesHere's my question, space travel is possible and people are still using iPads?! For real?!
