Anyone remember that quote? What ever happened to that? In the beta, countless times I drove my sparrow off a ledge to an area that looked explorable, only to find that going there just killed me. It felt like all of Old Russia was the size of Forge World from Halo. I hardly considerate it to be worthy of the "Open World" title. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the beta. The only thing that disappointed me was the explore mode. I expected to be spending most of my time in the game on explore, just, you know, exploring, but the gamemodes' name isn't really true to itself when you know the whole map of Old Russia after about an hour of gameplay. The "open world" in Destiny is a bit disappointing. I doubt those small areas that are blocked off will make the area feel much bigger, either. Anyone feel the same?
Edit: I made this thread right after the beta, before the game came out. Everyone got mad at me and freaked out. They all claimed, "It was just a beta." No-one really gets game betas that are available two months prior to release. Those aren't betas, they're demos. No-one believed me. Then, the game came out. And everyone began praising this thread. Funny.
I believe that if Destiny wasn't overhyped/over-advertised, AngryJoe wouldn't be flipping out. It is a GREAT game, it just doesn't live up to its pre-game hype. $1,000,000 was too much of an advertising fund, Activision.

The old generation of consoles is why Destiny isn't as expansive as was promised. They can barely handle it as it is.

Destiny 2 needs that open world we were expecting. Like Skyrim, except bigger, since we have current gen consoles and sparrows.

"So...how far can you and your friends "really" go in Destiny?!" Referencing the infinite atmosphere their maps held. Do these people not realize we are masters of games like Mass Effect, Skyrim, and Fallout 3?! Do they not know what caliber we are anticipating when they exchange those kind of exchanges in this day and age of video gaming? The maps were and still are THE biggest letdown of this game for me. I didn't even get to level 10 before I realized I was regurgitated through the same maps during different missions.

2 RepliesThe way I understand, destiny/bungie has an amazing set of point and click world building tools, I understand that this is just the beginning and bungie is probably going To be making huge updates to terrain during maintenance periods. Adding events it's just going to take time. It's probably what they are doing now. Everything has a beginning. It's not like Peter Molyneux works there I bet at some point if we can see we can go there....for now I'm more than excited for what's ahead.

I feel that that explore isn't really explore, it's more like a bunch of missions scattered for you to receive, I wanted it to be all of Old Russia just sitting there for you to explore and salvage, if you don't get what I mean, then think, if you were in a random spot you were walking around and some how wondered into the devils lair or a mission, I wanted the map to be simply a place where I could simply quick travel, otherwise I wanted it to be all open.
