What if... there was an ODST 2?

To give you an idea, here's what I went with for a sequel to ODST: [spoiler] [u][b]ODST 2: New Phoenix[/b][/u] | New Phoenix is a city that was composed at the end of Halo 4. There would even be mini-modes in the HUB, like time trial goosing or search and destroy. Why not go a step further and include special side missions in the HUB separate from the Campaign and Firefight? The idea would be to give people a plethora of post-game Campaign content to explore in the HUB. • There'd be a greater emphasis on stealth so that the AI would not auto-detect you after one shot. There'd also be more freedom to roam around the map, allowing you to enter more buildings and jump across rooftops like Halo 2. • Part of the city would be abandoned again (due to the effects of the composer), but this time the ODSTs will start together and get separated into two different squads. There'd be an anxiety throughout the game that you're losing team members and your chance of surviving the mission. We would need to feel the city's despair through the protagonist. The detective aspect would remain, with clues of our teammates' disappearances and the fate of the city itself appearing throughout. Flashbacks will just be replaced with a swap between Buck's Squad and Rookie's Squad. • The Campaign would strive to take the average player 10 hours on Normal. Higher difficulties would increase the amount of AI and their responsiveness, as well as decrease the weapons, vehicles, and friendlies you have available to you. The more difficult you make the game, the more you have to conserve your resources and play strategically. • There would be more wide-scale vehicular combat, like a part early on where traffic is still moving and you're having an intense crossfire in a densely populated urban area. Then later on, you'd roll a tank and blast through abandoned cars and enemies while civilians are running the other way. Think Exodus from Reach except in the streets! • There'd also be missions consisting of intense shootouts and CQB with your squad against 'composed humans' (basically zombies). • Firefight would return with more of the Reach customization, except there'd be a greater emphasis on teamwork and survival. Players will need to hold strategic areas of the map and ration their supplies to get high scores and reach new waves. Reaching these waves could unlock new features, modes, and other things for players. It would also include the Promethean zombie mode (direct attempt at capitalizing on it, except with its own twists) as well as vehicle-based firefight. • One major difference from ODST is that this would feature a multiplayer of its own. Base gameplay would be arena-ish, but the trick is some modes would be like an FPSRTS where you have AI troops on your team (think Generator Defense from Reach). Old gametypes like CTF, Assault, and Territories return, but there would be hybrids of Gen Defense, Invasion, and others with AI included. These would incorporate the map, compass, and VISR into play as well. It'd have to feel like its own multiplayer though, and not too much like traditional Spartan Halo or another FPS. It would include remakes of Turf, Terminal, etc. • There'd also be a degree of customization on FF and MP maps and a more basic Forge mode for them. • We'd need a new AI because it wouldn't make much sense to bring the superintendent along... • Weather effects! Rain, Fog, real time daylight/night in the HUB, etc. [/quote][/spoiler] Go go go!

  • I'd hate that idea, mainly because it contradicts Halo Storyline worse than what Reach did to TFoR.

      • A 5000 hour game/movie with plenty of cinematics detailing the entirety of the halo universe. Past, present, and future. Throw in firefight, typical halo matchmaking, and forge. Maps from various planets over the eras that are covered. I think that's possible right?

      • I didn't like odst that much so if they did I would like to see them in the game make them able to meet like spartins and other things.

                      • Well i think 343 is gonna make a odst 2. But it will be like 10 years before we see aomething or hear about it. They need to built an enviroment for this game that is used in a halo with the chief in it. And your location was hit by the composer more then anything not many or any covenant from what i know. And the composer is just a deathray that isnt gonna be killed by a silenced smg. So were it comes to is that your idea is ridiculous and will not happen. And by the time odst 2 does come out we are 10 years further with our lives.

                          • I think the next ODST game should take place around the Insurrection, before the Human-Covenant War.That would be badass. I also think that when Chief's tale finally comes to a close, they should move on to a huge mega super game about the Forerunners before the firing of the Halos, and you can visit all the planets and choose a caste and meet mendocant bias and the gravemind and holy shit my dick hurts just thinking about that hot damn

                                    • Weren't all the surviving ODSTs, SPARTAN IIs and SPARTAN IIIs turned into SPARTAN IVs? Nonetheless, my idea would be simply 'Halo: Harvest'. [spoiler] Obviously, it would be set during the fall of Harvest and would be played from the perspective of a marine (an army PFC or sgt is also an option, but, I don't want to rule space combat out of the game). There would be a much greater emphasis on cover and teamwork and would almost be a squad shooter. The main idea is that I want to capture the horror and strength of the Covenant and be able to allow the player to experience it in a way that they haven't been able to from behind a SPARTAN visor. Armour abilities would be out of the question (as you aren't wearing MJOLNIR armour) and would be instead replaced by an equipment system. The available equipment would be things like powerful explosives (C7 perhaps?) and other, more contemporary pieces of military equipment such as light medkits and deployable sentry turrets. Nothing like the Halo 3 equipment system. The campaign missions will be focused towards the whole scope of war. The missions won't be in the 'spec ops army of one' style that they were in previous games. Instead, the scale will be increased and the missions will be more urban than we are used to. Movement will be heavier and less focused on agility. Of course, missions will still retain their sandbox feel. This won't be a plot and QTE rail road. As this will be focused on your fellow soldiers, great effort should be put into making sure that they are likeable and tough (in the style of Halo CE). Ideally, the missions should be long, emotional and impactful. A full playthrough on normal should net you 10 hours. Harder difficulties shouldn't make enemies bullet shields as that would likely disturb the feeling of war. Instead, supplies, the number of enemies and their rank would be determined by the difficulty (ie. more ultras and majors in addition to the regularly encountered rabble). I've wanted to play a Halo game from the perspective of the marines ever since the days of Halo CE. [/spoiler]

                                      • What made ODST memorable was the fact that it put you in the shoes of someone you didn't know. Do I want to see more of Buck and co. Yes. But if there was an ODST 2, I'd want it to be a different squad.

                                          • This leads to a question. Would it be acceptable for an ODST 2 to be a true ADS shooter? ADS isn't used by Spartans because they don't need to. Their armor allows them to precisely aim from the hip. ODST's don't have that advantage. Halo 3: ODST just used halo 3's mechanics, so if they made an ODST that is independent from another title, ADS would be canonically correct. But would the community accept that or riot?

                                              • The only way I could see a new ODST is playing the events leading up to Rookie's death, but that's mostly stuff against the Insurrectionists (and I know people will blow a fuse if a Halo game had primarily human enemies).
