P= progressive scan
i = interlaced
Interlaced means that for a single refresh, one half of the lines are projected/shown/displayed/scanned onto the display. The next refresh does the other half of the lines and "persistence of vision" (which occurs in your eye/brain) takes care of the difference.
Progressive scan means that all lines are displayed on each refresh of the entire screen.

TL,DR: Progressive is 60fps Interlaced is 60 refreshes per second, but only 30 frames per second

Oh I ask because I can't record PS3 in 1080p only 1080i they look the same to me/
