Why does the game still have old-style armor loot? It's absurd.

I could, like many others, continue to ignore this mess, but I'd rather speak out, as this situation is unhealthy. I know this is normal for MMOs, and there's always irrelevant loot that can be used for leveling. But these MMOs don't remove game expansions. Bungie, If you've committed to removing something irrelevant for a given timeline while keeping the old gear, it smacks of double standards. If you announced tier 5 armor with specialization, please rework all available destination armor and armor for all key PvP/PvE activities accordingly. This armor may have a 300 Light cap in Patrols and campaigns, but it will be new armor. With your strange decisions to isolate new loot in the portal and the last two expansions, you've effectively destroyed approximately 80% of the game, including Gambit mode. The portal should be a hub for convenience, not a game within a game. You might say that old armor can be used for transmogrification, but honestly, it's crazy to buy something you don't need only to break it. Why not get rid of this outdated mechanic and unlock a whole list of old armor in the character profile? After all, players will still have to complete contracts to unlock armor skins for customization.

  •
The portal should be a hub for convenience, not a game within a game.
This is probably the absolute best take I've read about the portal. I've mentioned that the main/landing screen should still be the director (planets) and the portal should just be a tab for "quick launch" or "whats new" or whatever, but Bungie keeps trying to jam more & more stuff into the portal as if its the "main game" ...and nobody wants that. Its bad for both new players & OG alike. The OG players are watching our nostalgic game get slowly chipped away & phased out in favor of the soul-less portal... And the message to new players is : Welcome. Here's 3 campaigns you have play thru to unlock all the subclasses & abilities. The weapons & armor you get will be out of date & not as powerful as what you can get from the portal, which has no story or lore. You must decide whether to mindlessly grind for power in the portal so you catch up with everyone else's power level... or rush thru the campaigns as fast as possible so that you can move onto the portal with a full kit of abilities. There is no immersion for new players. There is no lore & no investment. They're learning a story that has already ended (build-up to the Witness who is already defeated). There's no way they'll stick around as long as us OG players did, cuz there's nothing for them to get "hooked" on the way we did.

  • If I were to take a guess I'd say they did it like this because they coded each tier 5 weapon individually instead of just making a script that affects all guns in the game.

    • I still can’t believe that after all the $h1 t I paid for that they’ve deleted from the game they still want me to pay for Shadowkeep to get access to the exotics. It’s the one expansion i didn’t buy on PlayStation.

    • Destiny 2 development is, “How can we get these addicts to play something they’ve already played before, and grind it for months to give us time to work on something we enjoy instead of D2?” That’s why the loot is screwed, that’s why all our DLCs are now mini areas with gimmick powers, and that’s why even the stuff they’ve pushed out until June is going to be recycled content. They aren’t going to suddenly crunch on D2 like they are doing for Marathon. They made a judgement call and let what they thought was the “weakest” of the two die to focus on saving the other. And let’s not forget about the upcoming layoffs as Bungie will have to trim away more devs to make their hit Marathon look like it made them money. Fewer devs means on paper they are successful, but will they ditch Marathon devs they still have a use for, or ditch the D2 devs for a game people have largely stopped playing?

    • D2 is less like a mmo and more and more like an arcade game with little to no free choice on how to set up your mods . Thats how you end up with anti barrier side arms in a long range map with enemy snipers. Just moronic game design. Also they actually wrote code for all the armor you earn to be nothing you want so you’ll be motivated to spend real money buying armor and ornaments from Eververse. It’s not broken it’s working exactly as they intended. Shameless greedy game design that gives the middle finger to every guardian that spends time in the game.
