Ooooh, that rhymed 🙂
I believe there is no update that will revive D2. The only way forward is a completely new iteration of the franchise.
The game is now too old and stale. The franchise however, still (IMHO) has a lot of mileage and potential.
A completely new solar system, new powers, new weapons, new story and new enemies is what is required.
Patching up D2 just isn't going to work.
I bought Marathon, I enjoyed the S-Slam. Why? Because it felt fresh and new. That's the only thing that will revive a game I not only love, but am addicted to.
I understand if you disagree, but please don't be nasty about it... life's too short.

4 RepliesSony ain't green lighting that finance. Zero chance. Interest in the IP is at an all-time low, it'll be non existent in 6 years.

I agree that D2 is done and should have ended with Final Shape. . Renegades should have been a fun little, not completely cannon, expansion pack like Red Dead Zombies. . At this point I believe the best way to keep the franchise relevant is to un-vault the ENTIRE D2 storyline and put the game in Age of Triumph mode. Let people revisit the story and play all their favorite raids and dungeons. Playing the highlights of D2 is much better than the content slop that is the portal. . For the near future, Sony should have a smaller and better run studio make a D1 remaster that brings D2 quality of life updates to that game. This could easily give 2-3 years of content while D3 is in development. (Hopefully by a better studio like NetEase who made Destiny Rising) . Speaking of Destiny Rising, that game shows how much potential there is for the third game to be a story focused prequel. Long term franchises success depends on a STORY, not "live service" random game modes that are almost always just waves of enemies. Tell a story and let people explore the world with Bungie's incredible gunplay mechanics. That's the formula that made Halo legendary, that was Destiny at its best, and if Marathon/a possible D3 have a chance, that's what they will have to do.

The fact that marathon makes destiny 2 feel old is the reason I can't play d2 currently. Bring on the new next Gen shooter

The universe has potential. The current iteration of the game does not. Prismatic fundamentally broke the game. Turned it into a MOBA. Weapon Crafting was the first mistake. But it was quite a necessary evil given what we know now about Weight-Gate and all the shady algorithmic addiction tactics Bungie uses. Still led to decline. Bungie powercrept itself in spectacular fashion. Made the game too easy, so the only solution was "harder" content via timegates, more RNG, more grinding, and more paywalls. They did this to themselves. Hard content is only "hard" because players don't have the time to grind out meta builds that make it easy. That's all there is to it.

1 ReplyThe ip is on its last legs Sony won't allow a new destiny game I'll be shelved like the other Sony ip's that they shelved. The unfortunate truth is that destiny hasn't been a good product for years now and no longer makes enough money to justify making a new destiny.

4 RepliesI think they'll get additional D2 funding if the June upate brings in a lot of players; else it's going to be the end of the game for any large financial commitments. Different coat of paint on D2 is still the same destiny players are tired of. You're right - it needs a reboot but that isn't going to happen any time soon if ever.
