So Marathon aestically is amazing, but who asked for an extraction shooter, what waste of time and resources that could've been used on what the people want, *cough* *cough* DESTINY 3!
Marathon Review
So I would say I put about 6 hours into the server slam, I kept up with the game cause well it was a Bungie game. I had hope for it, love the looks and the environment, but it's an extraction shooter, and well Marathon doesn't really bring anything crazy to the table.
Graphics look stellar, guns feel good, sound design is phenomenal, but is the game fun, NO.
I already refunded my pre-order lol, but the game was very slow, and after playing, the whole vibe and look to this game does not fit the extraction genre, you are a runner and it's the slowest game I have ever played, this is a pvpve game right, well I think Bungie forgot the PVP, finding an enemy feels like I'm running a MARATHON around the map to find someone. I think I'm upset the most about what we could have had with all this dev time used on this game. Crucible actually getting the love it needs, a new Destiny game, but nope we got a slow extraction shooter that I don't think will last until May. Hopefully that emergency button has already been pushed or I think it's gonna get ugly these next few years.
Overall I think if you like Extraction games, you might like this. Try the slam first before making judgments.

4 RepliesA lot of the issues I am having with the server slam were not present in the version I played in November. Game is still fun, but has a lot of frustration in its core systems. It’s a genuine shame there is no single or co op horror campaign included with how great the art style, gunplay and vibes are.
So Marathon aestically is amazing, but who asked for an extraction shooter
I did. I love division and wondered what a more futuristic style extraction shooter would be like. Arc raiders was cheeks but marathon is good so far. Since its live service too theyll just keep adding stuff, whereas in division ive played it soo much i know basically everything. No new minibosses to find, no new lore to discover. Its a fresh take on extraction shooters. Honestly, the best thing about arc raiders is how everyone tries to be friendly, easy pickings

5 RepliesThey should have just incorporated an extraction shooter into destiny and called it the start of destiny 3, instead they give us this half baked game that’s supposed to be the pinnacle of bungie. Like just for a second imagine PvEvP which is not Gambit and is balanced in terms of PvP. Looter shooter is what we’ve all come to love and extraction shooters are starting to take over just after battle royals so why didn’t bungie do a looter/extraction hybrid shooter instead to build on the destiny universe?

So, they drove D2 off a cliff, and instead made a game that you say is not fun, but you think they'd be able to make D3 and it actually be good? Bungie isn't capable of making a good product right now. D3 wouldn't be any good unless someone else makes it.

Marathon was the true destiny killer It’s always an inside job

Lets be real, even without the extra hate Marathon currently is getting because of the Destiny drought, Bungie has been under-delivering since the conception of the Destiny franchise. With D1 I could never stop thinking to myself "what are they doing with all the time and money" and when D2 came out I almost instantly quit it because of the lack of content. But yeah, it doesnt look promising. I havent cared enough to try it myself but you only have to look at any of the "my thoughts" videos from their "content creator shills" to quickly realize that even those paid to hype the game are having a really hard time not crapping on it. And Peanut's chats are all negative. People hate it, have no interest in playing it and keep saying that it's boring to watch and that he should go back to ArcRaiders.

1 ReplyEdited by Scapez00: 2/27/2026 7:37:48 PMImagine they did a simple 40 dollar Destiny pvp game with regular map packs weapon tuning monthly and dedicated servers and a real anti cheat backed with AI. Would have been an easy win with enormous revenue I cant stand Big deal Bungie management

can’t believe Destiny was sacrificed for this garbage game. This game looks like someone threw up neon paint onto Minecraft. Plus everything Marathon is doing, Arc Raiders &/or Hell Divers does equally as good or better. I’ll be honest. I’m sick of this trend chasing slop & hero shooter / live-service garbage. The only thing I’m interested in coming from Bungie is Destiny 3 & they don’t seem interested in doing Destiny anymore. So, I’ll pass until then.

Tried it out. I remain apathetic.

3 RepliesI’m finding tons of PvP fights in there. Maybe you need to leave beginner Perimeter?
