Casual PVE player here with my take on what Bungie has all but abandoned Destiny 2 for.
First off, the gunplay. It's trash. Destiny 1 has better gunplay than Marathon does currently, and i feel better off using my knife in combat than i do using any other weapon I've gotten my hands on so far.
Next, the abilities. Barely felt the effects of any of the Runners, they all mostly felt the same.
The Assault class's shield doesn't last for more than a few seconds before needing to recharge. (Unlike D2's Unbreakable shield)
The Vandal feel's like you're being punished for using the double jump or extended slide.
The Recon was the only class that felt halfway decent in terms of their abilities, they just need shorter cooldowns like everyone else.
Assassin only feels good for CQC style combat, but CQC in this game feels extremely underdeveloped.
And the Triage feels like you're spending more time looking at your own teammates than you are exploring the map for resources or even foes to keep track of.
I didn't bother playing Rook, mostly because of my next point.
The PVE elements of this game feel a tad sluggish. Not awful, but not fully there just yet. The PVP however feels completely balanced in the aggressors favor. If you attack first, chances are high you're gonna win that combat. Health and shields almost vanish in an instant in combat against other players, or even players on your own damn team if they deploy a claymore right in front of you. (Team-killing -blam!-)
As for what's it's gonna take for someone like me to want to buy into this game, Bungie/Sony are gonna need a Training Ground, improved CQC, systems against team-killing, and a PVE focused gamemode at the bare minimum. Really we should've gotten a Training Ground and protections against team-killers in the Server Slam, since that piss poor excuse of a training intro didn't teach me much of anything.
So yeah, whoever watches these forums anymore at Bungie/Sony, if you want my $40 after launch, (I refuse to preorder this pile of trash you call a successor to Destiny 2) Make the game more friendly to the causal players. Otherwise your elite players will be all you get playing Marathon. And last i checked that's roughly 10-25% of the CURRENT Destiny 2 playerbase? Yeah i don't see Marathon lasting very long after launch either.
Anyway, that's all I've got to say. If anyone needs me for anything else, I'll be back to D2 in the next few months, or when our next Seasonal event drops. Whichever happens first.

Edited by jhermannITJ: 2/27/2026 2:46:01 AMMy only experience thus far is with Triage. I really like it. I just matched my D2 settings and the gunplay feels fantastic to me. I lost my Magnum in one of my 2 deaths... now I have a Bully that supposed to be terrible, but I dig it. 😇👍💠
