Why are we doing -10 power deltas on normal raids and dungeons AGAIN?

Whether this is unintentional or not, normal raids and dungeons have red sword icon enemies, and the modifier says -10 power delta. This has already been established by community feedback from Echoes that putting a disadvantage power delta on normal raids and dungeons feels terrible. Before anyone says that the new power numbers are translated differently in EoF, enemies wouldn't be red swords if it was really a -5 delta like it has been.

As someone who enjoys challenge in destiny this is an abysmal change and was completely unneeded. If you are a player who likes challenge you should have it available as an option. Raising the floor of the challenge to make normal remedial activities demand your utmost attention and loadout optimization is exhausting.

    • They hate new players. And they seem to hate the rest of their community. Doing this again with no loot increases is insane. I hate to keep repeating this, but the content creators and now the speedrunners are running destiny into the ground. There seems to be no location normal players can give bungie actual feedback. And it shows.

And right after Rite of the Nine where people were praising Bungie for making an environment that was safer for learning mechanics. Have fun learning mechanics where you die if you're not constantly paying attention to ads.

I swear, the only reason to grind power levels is only to gain access to play higher tier content that bungie has locked. Thats it. Whats the point of grinding higher level gear when it means nothing in endgame? The whole point of leveling up is to make the game easier. We earned that -blam!-. We didnt do it to get max level and then play at -50 under the level you just grinded to achieve that MATCHES that activity requirement. Besides, the players themselves have the option to make the strike/dungeon/raid more challenging if they want by using different weapons, gear, subclass, time-limits. Hell, clearing a champion infested encounter with weapons that DONT stun champs would be a good challenge honestly. BTW, my comment isnt even a complaint. The negative power level just seems odd to me. Why not just get rid of power level completely and just have difficulty settings? Thats basically what it is anyways.

          • A pathetic attempt at trying to "balance out" how strong we CAN be now, what with: Some abilities, and I have tested it with Silk Strike at least, double dipping from the melee and super stat, so supers can do theoretically 45-110% bonus damage. Our weapons being able to do 15% bonus damage in PvE against minors/ majors and 10% extra against bosses. Seasonal gear bonuses increasing our weapon damage and our resistance by another 10%. Once again, they go about it the wrong way like I've been saying for YEARS. Why make us stronger if they're going to buff the enemy more? Why have a level system if the closest to an actual benefit we get is access to higher tier content? The closest to justification for a level system currently is to do higher content to get higher tiered gear that is less of an improvement and more of an RNG improvement due to extra perks.

          • Funny enough, I was looking for a way to contact Bungie to communicate this, but from a different lens. There are two glaring disadvantages to this new system, from my eyes, that not only divide the player base but also kill the new-player experience. These points are captured from a raid perspective but can easily be viewed from the dungeon perspective as well. (1) Let's start with arguably one of the most important aspects; new player engagement and retention. Having new players experience an older raid in a -10 power delta deters most from wanting to try another, due to an elongated, frustrating experience. An example of this is when I took 2 players who have not raided since D1 and 3 players who did DSC a couple of times when it first came out, through DSC this past Saturday. The enemy health, the DPS required to clear encounters, and the damage output from enemies caused the run to go upwards of 8 hours, and we never cleared Taniks. For reference, I am someone who loves to sherpa and I personally feel as if we could've cleared that raid within 2 hours (at most) if it was the same difficulty as pre-EoF. Raiding with new-lights has gone from a fun experience, typically consisting of laughs, excitement, and intrigue to run other raids, into an experience that leaves them wondering why did they just allocate half a day to run content that they either couldn't clear and/or wasn't modern, giving them the expectation that new content would be significantly harder. My purposed solution for (1) is that difficulty options are not selectable for older content (except maybe an epic raid, if that is the direction Bungie wants to go). Let everything but the most modern/recent content be accessible to newer players. This would promote new player engagement and potentially lead them to be more interested in leveling/trying harder content. This means more eyes on upcoming expansions and world's first attempts. (2) My second concern with the new level/difficulty systems in raid/dungeon content is player division. If I understand the TWID's correctly, the goal is to create adjustable difficulty sliders for content, allowing players to choose whether or not they want to run raids/dungeons on a super low difficulty (probably no power delta?) at the cost of getting subpar loot or adjust the difficulty to something more applicable to that player's skillset, which also directly correlates to the loot that the player receives. To me, the apparent issue with this system as that, somewhere in the future, I can easily see that the player base will be divided into two camps; the lowest difficulty runs (sherpas, challenge runs, etc.) and the highest difficulty runs (loot focused, sweats, veteran players). I, for one, love challenging content, the idea of a higher tiered raid interests me, but at the same time, I feel as if having a diverse difficulty adjustment system will split the player base in half, resulting in most players struggling to find a applicable and healthy group to run with. I believe that you'll end up seeing that the majority of players will either have to settle and play on the lowest difficulty content (in turn receiving crap quality loot) or have the chance to run with sweats who might not invite based on Raid Report and/or kick based on dying once or twice. In my opinion, this is not a healthy path for Destiny endgame to go down, and, I hate to say this, but I can see the writing on the wall in regards to retained player base. My purposed solution for (2) is similar to mine for (1). Have one (except for epic raids) uniform difficulty for older content, as to not divide the player base. If Bungie believes that having x to the power of x adjustable modifiers would be beneficial to Destiny's endgame, leave that on the most modern of content, cycling it out once a new raid/dungeon drops. I love Destiny. I know it can be popular to hate on it, but looking at the big picture, this game has done SO MUCH for the gaming industry and for my personal life. I am excited to see the narrative and design direction that Bungie has in mind for Destiny, but please, please, please, do not punish endgame systems and your player base at the same time. - A concerned Destiny fan, who has been through peaks and valleys, from D1 closed alpha to present.

            • The worst part is the way to upgrade gear is to put modifiers on this new raid. This on top of the -10

            • Genuine question, why does anyone care? Almost all of the raids are so easy that you almost have to try to die to enemies.

            • Agreed. In its current state the new raid is nearly unclearable even on normal for lfg groups. There’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be able to over level normal mode raids and dungeons.

            • I seriously don’t understand putting a power deficit in standard raids and dungeons. They can easily make a difficulty mode for it.

                • I feel like this will punish players more that use LFG for raiding, even if the power delta is only -10. It can be difficult enough for an LFG team to co-ordinate roles, do mechanics/callouts correctly and get good DPS without a power delta. I'll be in this boat as I have a small clan with few active players so normally use LFG for raids. I probably would have persevered had the weapons been craftable and run the raid over to get the patterns. But I think I'll just try to get a couple of clears to experience the content. Realistically can't see myself farming it for random roles.

After everyone complaining about difficulty overall in FS I don’t understand who at Bungie thought it would be fun to crank it up a notch in EoF, especially when the new stat system is still not delivering fully on the power fantasy.
