Seperation of PvP and PvE is a good thing

Title. I love PvP, but I personally think PvE weapons shouldn't be rewarded for grinding PvP. Though I'm not sure if that's actually the case. What do y'all think?

  • Just separate the pve and pvp sandboxes or this debate will never end

    • If they didn't put PvE weapons in PvP then PvP wouldn't exist. Why do you think they have had to gut and nerf PvP for so many years in a row? It's mostly just low skill PvE players trying to level and get weapons for PvE. Same reason they still weave us through Gambit. Both Crucible and Gambit could not stand on their own merit.

Yeah, the catalyst for Seros (?) Regime @ 300 guardian kills is pointless to grind because the weapon is powerless vs a decent legendary Auto. Maybe back when it first came out it was strong enough to accumulate that many PVP kills, not now! That being said the separation of the two modes makes a huge difference. Now they can nerf a weapon, ability in PVP and not make that weapon/class impotent in PVE as was the case in the past.

For most part Bungie has gotten pretty good at keeping the sandboxes separate, sure their are some outliers, Graviton being one of the more recognizable changes where it just doesn't feel good to use anymore in PvE or PvP and doesn't excel in any particular activity even with a Void build. Another weapon that comes to mind is actually Promethus Lens. Prometheus used to be decent but thanks to the lazer beam Trials weekend that we had way back when. Even with the Trace Rifle buff it still doesn't feel good to use even if it is fun to melt a poor schmuck with a lazer beam.

        • It’s subjective that weapons rewarded from PvP are “PvE weapons”. Any weapon can be used in PvP or PvE. Even if some are objectively better at one than the other. Though even then, so few weapons, and so few rolls on those weapons are considered to be suited for high end/end game PvE or PvP. I think right now there are more “meta” PvP options you have to obtain in PvE then there are the other way around. Off the top of my head I can’t think of 1 PvP obtained weapon that is meta in PvE. I don’t think there’s been one since Recluse and Mountaintop. The closest being maybe Reed’s Regret, but it’s hardly the only option for a great PvE linear. Anyways, I rambled about that for too long. I have always felt that the separation between PvE and PvP should have been greater. In D1 I was convinced that the classes would have been more distinct in their “fantasy” archetypes if not for trying to balance them in PvP. Like giving Titans more health, Warlocks faster ability cool down for greater magic spamming, and hunters more DPS and elusiveness. I’m still not convince that wasn’t the case. Then at the time any nerf to something for PvP affected PvE. While that is less common now, it still happens as it appears there are some things that are still system wide and not separated by PvE and PvP sandboxes. Personally I’d be fine if PvP and PvE felt nothing alike. That powers, weapons, armor, perks would behave differently. Even if some abilities, weapons, and armor couldn’t even be used in PvP. I get that I’m wrong, and getting something in PvE and using it in PvP with parity is a major attraction for Destiny PvP. I just hate that concessions are made even down to core designs for items for PvE, because it would be too broken in PvP.

          • I just wish they started to balance PvP and PvE separately as too many balance changes are entirely the cause of one or the other and end up affecting an area of the game where it’s not an issue and vice versa. If a game like WoW can balance separately I think D2 should have access to that technology as well.

            • i think weapons aren't necessarily PvE or PvP. there have been many situations where players had to do pve for a weapon they wanted to use in pvp and vice versa. weapons are just weapons.

            • Game so lame if you don’t let PvP players grind loot at PvE or vice-versa, the game would probably go belly up. It’s what keeping this boring game from dying. LMAO!!! Game so boring and hollow, if you split PvP and PvE on this now lame game, it would slowly die. No way this uncreative, non-developers company will even try to do that. They know it will probably kill their only running boring game. LMAO!!!

              • I think that inevitably there should be good pvp weapons in pve loot pools, and vice versa. That's healthy for the game, it incentivizes all players to play all modes. It only becomes a problem when things like recluse and mountaintop are SO GOOD in pve, that nothing else comes close. And then, once that happens, it forces people into pvp who don't want to be there just because nothing else can compete with those options that are pvp exclusive. Basically, just give the players more options. I should be able to get good pvp guns from pvp, but I should also be able to get guns of similar caliber from pve. The same goes for getting pve guns. This is a principle which bungie has generally done a pretty good job sticking to recently. Those few trials guns which are good in pve, for example (think reeds regret), have almost always had sidegrades that come from pve (taipan, stormchaser, the new linear from this season).

There's nothing wrong with that being the case. But if something is good for PvP that's in Trials or something like that and it also happens to be good for PvE that shouldn't stop it from being available in PvP. When it comes to weapons that aren't in Trials (or something like Rose) if people want an alternative route to getting them that would be fine but PvP definitely doesn't need to be rewarding less weapons overall. But you're right that there shouldn't really be anything where its blatantly obvious that its for PvE that you need to play PvP to get.

                  • I agree that there should be a seperation. Some people might claim that it gets people to play all Modes but for me and many others Quests like Mountaintop ruined PvP. Just the thought of having to play PvP in this Game is taking away all motivation. PvP weapons should come from PvP activities and they should never ever be the best option for PvE. People should not forget that PvP in this Game is here to keep the Playercount up while there is no Content. This is primarily a PvE focused Game.

                  • Nah, that's what makes it unique. I just wish there were more quests like Luna's/mountaintop (not necessarily those weapons, but that style of quest). Something actually meaningful to grind for...
