If you could have anything in PvP…

Hi! Hippy here! We’ve said a few times that the team has been heads down on overhauling PvP gradually (and that we are comfy quite yet saying the more distant plans while the team test some things out) for the future and that we know it can be frustrating to not see that. Still can’t talk about it and I’m hoping me posting this on a Sunday helps show that this isn’t a work question, per se, but more of an interest and let’s talk type thing, but wanted to chat! If you could dream up anything for PvP; returning, new, “what the hell does that mean,” what would that be and why? Olive branch here to try to be more active on the forums, please be kind 🙏🏻

    - Put arbilest and Lorentz in the heavy slot then unnerf them. - Remove damage buffs from hunter dodge. Remove damage buff from gyrfalcons. Make it so they give overshieilds after a dodge after a kill with gyrfalcons. - Give comp rank to control or remove skill based matchmaking and quiters penalty from control. - Revert sunspots to pre 3.0 and change Lorilee's so it only adds restoration to sunspots and nothing else. Give all solar subclasses sunspots in some way. If you explode something it makes a sunspot and casting supers with ember of combustion on makes a sunspot on you and it increases duration of your super. - Mobility gives bonuses to reload and airborne effectiveness. - Revert shotgun nerfs on slugs only. - Give me my defensive strike back. - And give warlocks arc web in some way - unbuff sidearms - fix spawns instead of blaming golden gun(it's not too strong) - increases the charge time of ALL fusion rifles by .15 seconds

  • Sparrow Racing League with Medal Ranks. I don't play PVP anymore, I go else where. It's the only competitive mode I'm considering in this game.

  • Oh another one Remove dysjunction. The map is horrible. Spawn trapping is easy. Map has terrible flow. Everyone quits when it comes up.

  • dedicated servers, melees feel very inconsistent lately when matched with overseas players sadly, i know thats quite the task but eh just my opinion

    • Airborne Effectiveness needs serious work. SERIOUS work. From the way it was worded in the TWAB, it seemed as though we would be able to build in to the stat for even better aerial gun play, and those of us who were fine with the way things were could still rely on things like icarus grip to keep us decent in the air. We would finally be able to use our favorite exotics in the air and slot mods other than icarus on our favorite weapons. More build options, more customization, things that we love to see in Destiny. We were hyped. Flash-forward 2 seasons and we still have no way to build into the stat, barring wearing niche exotics for their AE increases. Even then, it is difficult to replicate even half of what pre-season 17 icarus grip provided us, and our exotics feel even worse in the air. One of the most important aspects of Destiny's pvp is the movement. As guardians, we are space warriors that can double jump, dash, blink, and glide through the sky. Destiny's vertical movement is one of the main things that separates it from other fps games. It allows you to engage from any elevation and location effectively, as well as reposition and evade during a gun fight. AE has rendered our weapons useless in air, and engaging in an airborne battle is now nothing short of a death wish. I believe AE has also had a direct effect on the meta; weapons like pulses and scouts were not as effective in the air as other weapon types, and now that the playing field is even, they are dominant; invisibility is now a necessity for engaging and repositioning as attempting any elevation change now makes you vulnerable. I'm not asking to get rid of the stat; obviously a lot of developer time and money went in to it, and it provides another form of customization, an idea that definitely fits destiny. I think there are 2 changes/additions that can actually change this from an utter disaster into another greatly appreciated form of customization: (1) Tweak base AE numbers on weapons so that the addition of an Icarus grip mod grants similar airborne accuracy to that of old icarus and (2) actually give us ways to build into the stat. Possibly a helmet or class item mod that grants +10 AE? Maybe subclass fragments that give base AE increases along with their other benefits? I remember how a got addicted to this universe. Launching up the Taken King and going through the campaign, the first thing I noticed was how buttery smooth the gunplay was. Just popping the heads of the most basic, red bar enemies was satisfying, so doing the same to a fellow guardian in the crucible was exhilarating. The gun sound, the bullet trail, the recoil pattern, and the hitmark made Destiny's gunplay feel unmatched. It was an experience I felt could not be replicated. The lack of in air combat has not eliminated this feeling; Landing a snipe or the perfect 3 tap from a handcannon is still incredibly gratifying, but the inability to do so in the air feels like a loss of potential, especially when we know how great it can be.

      - One thing that will always be appreciated, by me at least, is to have more maps made for 3v3 and 6v6. That just means maps specifically designed for Trials and Iron Banner for example. Reason being are the maps designed for year one of D2. Those maps get the job done, but they aren't optimized for it. Plus no one ever said no to new maps. - To be honest ability spam; grenades, melee, etc, is part of the reason I don't interact with Crucible for very long. I love my abilities, but it takes a little bit away from the gunplay. I want to see all ability cooldowns get doubled, or increased by an acceptable margin in PvP (Not including supers). - Removal of the quitter penalty in 6v6. For those that regularly quit out of their matches, shame on them. However, Bungie, I feel like you've swung a bit too hard, by bringing that into 6v6. 6v6 is widely seen as a casual game mode. There's no need to punish people for quitting. Heck, I was given a quitter penalty because my connection to the game booted me to orbit. That's out of my control. - The ability to vote on a map is something I've wanted for a while now. I've seen plenty of folks complain about certain maps as well as seen people quit, because it's a map they don't like. I'm just saying you could kill two birds with one stone by including this function. You'd get some easy data on what maps people don't like and you could rotate out the least favored maps for new maps. - I can't remember if you've announced a change for the Glory playlist or not, but I want that to become a rank based playlist. Maybe that's what you think it is now, but all I see is another PvP playlist. From Guardian to Legend - every core game type has that format, you can hardly call that a ranked game mode when the Glory ranks carry little to no weight outside of the playlist. Make those ranks mean something beyond the seasonal format too, think emblems or titles. - Bring back Countdown. It was legitimately a good game mode and I can't remember why it was ever removed. If it were to come back I'd like it to be in the New Ranked playlist (that I'd also like to see). I'm sure there's one or two things I've forgotten to mention, but this is everything I could immediately think of.

    • Dedicated servers would be the numero uno dream for PvP. Not having them significantly holds back the crucible in relation to other competitors. The compounding issues this creates will always generate a level of fundamental frustration for the general player experience. On a side note, great to see a CM being active in the forum. Enjoy the rest of your weekend 👍

    • Only one thing I want. Properly tuned, Regional Dedicated Host Servers. Until then, Bungle is just wasting time tweaking this or that with this wet stinky fecal mess of a Peer to Peer network they have had now for 8+ years.

      • I'd like a full on big team battle mode with vehicles tbh. Maybe a drake tank, some pikes, the cabal skimmer thingy. Why not throw the scorch cannon in there too and a hive Knight blade as well Let us guardians get crazy and go wild in PVP.. Let us loose

      • More fun game modes! Let us do something with our eager edge swords, like a Michael Myers game mode or Infected, a mode that let's us equip all exotics and just go absolutely crazy! Team Scorched is fun, but it's been in the game for so long now. 😁

        Oh hey~ One thing I'd like to see is a streamlining of Crucible's launch nodes. At the moment, too many options meaning too many ways to split playerbase. Main quickplay, Rotator, and 1 mode of Comp. Trials and Banner still show up on their occasions as usual. I'd like to see a season of Clash replacing Control. This can work 2 ways: Focus on combat vs objectives that nobody seems to play much anyway (in my lobbies) possibly leaning into better feedback on Loose SBMM, and allowing Iron Banner's default mode to stand apart instead of being "More Control with extra features". Trials I feel needs a rework, or a refocus. It seems to be trying to be more than what it is since it tries to both be enticing to newer and solo players while simultaneously bending them over when they do enter from a lack of SBMM and light level limitation. Not that Light level should be disabled, but people under X level shouldn't be let in as it creates an unfair fight for anyone else on their team. Gonna have to be time to pick a lane there. My two suggestions are: Leave Trials in it's current state of Flawless Lighthouse BUT return to fireteams only. Remain a competition of best vs best where communication and skill is key in a CBMM environment and drop the solo / less skilled player support since it's not for them anyway. Or: Rework Trials Flawless Lighthouse and implement SBMM. In a proper skill-based environment, the chances of Flawless are drastically reduced for the best players now that they'd be forced to fight people of their level each and every game. Adept rewards and The Lighthouse would need a new method of access instead, perhaps just winning enough games total. Your top-end players will probably hate it and streamers would lose carry services since anyone can get Adept with enough time investment. Bungie really needs to consider who their target audience is here, and as a gentle reminder, Destiny 2 is rated Teen. I'd like to ask the dev team: At what point does someone become too good? It's one thing to always try and push limits and difficulty, but where does it end and who are you losing in the process?

          Not just PvP related but all of the core playlists need MAJOR overhauls if we are expected to keep playing them as much as seasonal and holiday event challenges seem to think we want to do. PvP has been stale for ages now with the one new map being very poorly received. Plus with the changes to matchmaking and the sandbox, a lot of players feel forced to use the same meta kit which really speeds up the rate the matches start feeling the same and stale. I'd like to see more unique gamemodes, not just Control, Control with extra steps, Clash, or Cash with extra steps. Classic CTF? No abilities modes? Big Team Battles with vehicles like we had in D1? Maybe even a few party modes for a pure arcade type of play. Stuff like Infection from Halo. (Maybe like SIVA spreading from infected players)

        • If not actual sbmm, much, much better lobby balancing because the lopsided matches are ridiculous. Also, map voting, I get tired of playing the same map over, and over, and over ... especially when they're maps designed for 3v3 with bad spawns. Finally, loot. Some reason to play.

          Less ability spam in all forms of pvp as at the moment it is way too high. Also, less Dysjunction as the map is horrible, maybe bring back some of the sunsetted maps in the rotation pool. I feel like we have so many maps but only get the same few over and over again. How about a better reward system at the end of the game instead of blues. Flawless pool needs to go..I remember how great trials was when we had no flawless pool, when we first had a chance to play it during the Witch Queen season. The servers are a massive issue as well as most people have probably said. I won't even start with how long it takes to find a game right now. sbmm has no place in quickplay.

          Welcome to the trenches. Myself, I'd like to see: ~Dedicated servers. ~No more matching against people on the other side of the planet. (I don't care if I have to wait 15 mins or more for a match, no more lag fest matches please.) ~Class balance. (We know it's not 100% possible, I'm sure you guys are aware of what I speak.) ~Faster response to oppressive builds. https://twitter.com/TrialsReport/status/1587531970997022720 Also: https://twitter.com/TrialsReport/status/1589358663986483201 ~Return of pinnacle quests. (Not necessarily as powerful as Mountaintop/Recluse etc was, but something nice to work for. Could even be cosmetic for known PvP weapons, like a Crucible skin for Palindrome etc) ~New Maps, and the return of old maps. ~Map voting while the roster is filling up. (For example: Before each match, the game chooses three maps at random, everyone gets to vote for one of the three choices given.) ~Chronus/Xim removed. ~Feedback on anti-cheats efforts. (We don't need to know how you detected cheats, just something like: This week XX number of accounts have had action taken. That way we know SOMETHING is being done.) ~Square 2 Still lists Destiny 2 cheats as undetected, they brag that in all these years it has NEVER been detected. Fix this please.           • Some kind of outlier protection system in Trials, there is no reason people with 300 plus flawless should play others with less than 10. Complete removal of Airborne effectiveness. Complete removal of a quitter penalty in Quickplay or remove stat tracking in non SBMM playlist. More frequent vendor refreshes for PVP vendor. Unique armor/ weapons for the Survival playlist.

          • If I could have one wish, just one wish, Id have gambit get deleted. Then, take the resources and use them to develop more crucible maps. PvP needs so many overhauls on the tech side, balancing, and design overall. But it only gets so much worse when we know resources are going to gambit. Remove gambit and I can only see improvements on the horizon

              BALANCING... In all honesty, new modes doesn't really help. PvP needs so much of balancing it's unreal. Linear fusions are out of control. Titan shields, overshields, one shotting supers, storm grenades for titans, hunter invis issue, hunter bouncy knives, warlocks children and warlock stasis in general. Then you have so many other weapons that are promoting lazy playstyle which forces people to find the next busted thing in crucible. SBMM would be fine if the lobby was balanced and if we didn't have the horrible p2p system. Since leaving matches doesn't pad your stats anymore, you should incur no penalty for leaving matches. Majority of players hate disjunction and a lot of us leave the match when that map comes up. Cheat hardware needs to be banned too... 0 flinch is a problem. Edit: Please give us reasons to play survival and Elim. For trials, force people to go flawless without resetting by locking weapon perks (double / triple perks) behind heavy RNG which is only obtainable through multiple flawless cards.             • Really appreciate you taking the time to post here ❤️ 1. Consistently getting new maps and even some D1 returning maps would be huge. Getting 2 or 3 when a big expansions drops would be ideal and then maybe 1 new/D1 map throughout the seasons. I think front-loading the content year with maps is better than getting 1 each season. 2. Effort made to improve the experience of the dedicated/skilled players. Right now it doesn’t feel rewarding to be good at this game. 3. Reintroduce a skill gap. There are way too many weapons/abilities/play styles right now that require minimal effort yet provide substantial output. Outliers imo are sidearms, le monarch, dead Messenger, LFRs (hoping tomorrow’s nerf helps), GLs, and Invis. I also think it’s too rewarding to just sit in the back of the map with Scout Rifles. Historically, Crucible has had its best days when weapons like HCs, Pulses, and Autos were on top
