I have enormous lvles of love for this game but i have come to the solid conclusion that its developers Do. Not. Care. about what we want as players. Destiny is a looter-shooter game, and with gear sunsetting, i personally feel that i no longer have a reason to chase loot whatsoever. I refuse to grind for weapons and armor that will (in every meaningful way) be made irrelevant in a year at most when farming for those perfect rolls can take months (and often take longer). Bungie does not respect the time investment that destiny requires.
I acknowledge that power creep is a legitimate concern. I don't want a repeat of what happened in season of the drifter. The answer is not to just keep making more and more powerful stuff until the game has to be dialed up to a crazy degree. Thats not fun for players, and it's a downright nightmare for devs. Sunsetting is not an answer to the problem, its like a father saying "i can't feed my children" then turning around and murdering them. Sure the kids aren't hungry anymore, but the solution killed them all.
But at the end of the day, what is destiny? It's a game. A creation who's sole purpose is to provide fun. I've personally known soooo many people that have hung on to the hope that destiny would pull through. But now? With sunsetting most of the players of my personal acquaintance have set their controllers down and said "i give up". At the end of the day, bungie has failed to keep many of its customers happy. And that is the largest failure an entertainment company can have. I too have made a resolution, although i love this game to pieces, i cannot in good conscience pay more money to a company that has ultimately failed at their job. With the advent of "gear sunsetting" i impose "wallet sunsetting" i will not pay bungie another cent. And i sincerely encourage others to follow my example if they, like me find this turn of events unacceptable.

Good for you I guess.

Sunsetting is the same thing as ladders and seasons in diablo. Which was celebrated and loved by the community. So yall thinking that sunsetting will kill this game...no. Plenty of people still remember how these games were played before yall fame along and ruined it for us. I dealt with the changes, so maybe you should too.

Totally agree 😎👍

1 ReplyBut Luke will come out and apologize and say he was wrong and that they will fix it and fans will buy it and he'll laugh at them all again when he doesn't actually fix it.

2 RepliesI uninstalled D2 (because 1. The direction the game is going in seems more like punishment than fun, and 2. I kept getting 'corrupted' errors that forced lengthy re-installs each time there was an update, despite deleting D2 and another game and starting over). I went back to Destiny 1. Right now I'm having a lot of fun revisiting the original Destiny. As that fun wears off (because there isn't much to do, honestly), I hope I find a new game. I'm in no rush to re-install D2, or buy the next season. Destiny 2 jumped the shark.

Like seriously Wtf is wrong w you! Comparing a loot issue to murdering children Seriously go to GP and get help

4 RepliesThe more I think about sunsetting the more the logic behind it makes sense. Two reasons: There are dozens, if not hundreds of weapons in this game that come and go and are basically worthless for their entire existence. There's no reason for Bungie to make a new weapon model for something like Gnawing Hunger if they are just going to make a 600 rpm auto that does the same thing. At a certain point they've made just about every type of 600 rpm auto that there is ever going to be so in order to make things relevant that didn't use to be relevant they kind of need to hit the reset button on everything. It makes it so the weapons have value because we might want to see one return periodically and sunsetting does so in a way that is realistic because it does the opposite of cheapening weapons by just making it so they come and go and are seen as easily replaceable by something that's ultimately just a new weapon model graphically but does the same thing. And it takes a ton of time to create those new graphical models for really no reason whatsoever. The second reason is that they seem to be moving away from having insane gambling grinds be the centerpiece of the destiny experience. With the Gnawing Hunger example people are pretty much getting god rolls of that weapon pretty passively through the way umbral engrams work. And it respects time put in regardless of whether you are following precise directions as to what you are supposed to do over and over like you have some kind of gambling addiction. Instead of cheapening gameplay solely for the reason that a certain weapon required an insane grind they can now have gameplay be the central aspect of Destiny like it always should be no matter if its a looter shooter or whatever it is. Gameplay should come first not "oh you grinded this so the whole game should now rotate around this weapon you ground." ...queue the downvotes, I can take it.

22 RepliesThat’s quite possibly the worst analogy ever made in the history of existence. Sunsetting is more like... a company wanting you to get a new phone... so they offer the new phone free of charge... except you don’t get the new phone because you think the old one is better... so they take away your old phone and give you a new one. No, that was terrible. There’s really no way to make an analogy for sunsetting... But really, do you think that mountaintop, a 1 and a half year old gun, should still be the most used gun in the game?

Well said

2 Repliesi still dont understand why they dont just sunset specific guns

Edited by MrMiizii: 7/21/2020 8:22:45 PMIt's not even about the weapons for me. It's my armor, it took ages looking for the right rolls, farming materials and that time investment. Armor isn't effected by the power creep. My gloves from last October hasn't doubled in strength since 2.0 release. On the off note, armor at lvl 1 isnt useful whatsoever. You have to max it to 10 for it becomes useful. This isn't a process i want to repeat every fooking year. Weapons I change out like crazy, their cheap to MW . Sunsetting weapons never really would effect me. I been expecting the sunset for a while. Not on armor though. Luke Smith speaks of mmorpgs. He would see that the armor sunsetting is just a slap to the face if he played a game where it was implanted. You can clearly see the armor is just a cash grab for the upcoming transmog system. They're separating the armor sunsetting and transmog. So, people won't throw it together and call unfair. I'm all for giving a company money for honest work. If I'm happy with a game I'll continue to buy stuff from them. If I'm not.. well I stop talking about them and never recommend their products. Simply will move on to an other product. In this case a game. Greed isn't something I support, the armor sunsetting mixed with the upcoming transmog system... is just that... greed. No other explanation for it. My payed content runs out at the start of the next DLC. That's when my booty will move on. From now till then, they have sometime to change my mind. My Hope's are about as high as legless frog can jump.

Gear sunsetting made me angry at first, but then I realized that even though some of my favs like beloved are going away, shit like mountaintop, mindebenders, and revoker are also being power capped. So for me it’s kind of a win/loss
-
I have zero hype for the new season when it comes because of sun setting. No reason to play anymorr
-
yea they pretty much sunset their own game lawl There's literally no reason to play anymore I just wanna see the pyramid homies come through and nuke errything. And that's what YouTube is for
-
Only absolute smooth brains love sun-setting.
-
people who are serious about quitting the game, just quit. they don't make long posts with ridiculous analogies, as to why they are quitting. posts like this remind me of people that claim they are going to kill themselves, yet never do, nor attempt it. its all about getting attention, not a cry for help, just attention. in the end, i bet you are all talk, and will continue to play, purchase new content, and cry about it all the time on the forums.

Sunsetting in general is just lazy development and it's largely because they have their Best and Brightest working on Matter (new NetEase IP) - not on Density. I don't reward Lazy, so I will not pre-order at all. And depending on the reviews of CyberPunk 2077, I may not even look at Density in November at all. Bungle expecting $84.99 Canadian for a minor New DLC update (+ a lot of old D1 reskinned content) and the time gated mediocre Season pass is outrageous. I can buy CyberPunk 2077 for $79.99 Canadian or the new StarWars IP for $54.99 Canadian, both new fresh IPs.

I'm on the Not gonna buy list.

Soon as i seen sunset in the twab I haven’t played since, i loved destiny, destiny didn’t respect the time i put in to get pinnacle weapons, i hang around here hoping the sunset nonsense is with drawn but nope

Edited by The Hermit IX: 7/21/2020 8:19:24 PMThey should sunset all the garbage legendary weapons. They’re are plenty to remove to help bloating of weapons in the game. I’m ok with them sunsetting pinnacles as long as they put out new ones to use and keep on a yearly rotation. With that said I’m dead set against sunsetting the better legendary weapons and armor. It’s achieves nothing and limits choices, destroy load outs and makes no sense. There is no power creep from a god rolled blast furnace or spare rations or any other legendary weapon in the game. Pinnacles created that problem not legendaries. They could fix it with a balancing fix or just remove them with new ones to chase. If they want to put old weapons to rest they need to introduce a new weapons system. Instead they will release the same things we already have. What’s the difference between my new Night Watch and my old one? 2 things are different. The little icon in the corner and the fact it was easy to get. After grinding 6 months to get a perfect roll on my old one, it took 10 engrams this season to get the exact perfect roll. It felt dirty and it’s exactly the same gun. So I’ll use it but will appreciate it a lot less seeing everyone and their dad running around with the same roll.

Sun setting could've been the answer. But the botched it. Badly. Bungie contradicted themselves with re-issues. A massive NO when you perform sun setting. Defeats the purpose of it. Not to mention the claim of power creep. They're either ignorant of that fact , stupid or just don't care. Probably all 3.
-
yes because loot has to do with murdering children
-
I just want them to add new exotic that we have to find from drops or quests instead of the instant unlock via season pass or preorder. It really degrades the whole "exotic" status since everyone has it from the start. its much less rewarding this way

Edited by Arizath: 7/21/2020 10:18:26 AM
i will not pay bungie another cent
that won't hurt them at all. And even when the 0.3% of the actualy playerbase that are active on this forum unite to stop paying for this game (and still buying the expansion at the end of the day) it doesn't change anything. Edit:
its like a father saying "i can't feed my children" then turning around and murdering them.
Instead of thinking about paying for this game you should stop playing anything and get some serious help.. Jesus..

2 RepliesEdited by moosterd: 7/21/2020 4:59:42 PMSun setting means I’m freed from the hamster wheel! I don’t have to care about my weapons anymore! Yay! Just use whatever drops and throw it out when you get something new. That Redrix and revoker quest I haven’t finished yet? Poof! Deleted! Silver lining I guess...
#sarcasm
