I've invested countless hundreds of hours (and dollars) in this game to build up all the stuff I have now! And now y'all are telling me that all I and everyone else worked for has an expiration date? That's a straight slap in the face to the people who have dedicated so much of their time to playing your game. If developers don't listen to the players and instead do what they think is best, then the game will have no purpose, because nobody will be playing it.
Dang I just wrote a straight essay on this crap.

I wish spare rations and Mindbenders would get retired.

5 RepliesI think I’ve played an hour since they announced weapon retirement. It just felt hollow knowing any weapon I got would become useless in the activities I would want to bring them to. Been playing Division 2 and it’s been way more fun. Everything feels fresh, it has depth, looks good, and actually feels challenging. Only downside is the flurry of bugs that have sprung up since the update, but those will be fixed in time.

1 ReplyEdited by Kouz_MC: 3/6/2020 8:06:29 AMNot sure you’re aware that less than 3% of the playerbase is playing this game, since a very long time now. We’re often close to less than 1% recently.

Agree 100%

They couldn't figure out how to make "valuable" loot worthwhile in the long run, So they're gonna make "value" a temporary concept altogether. There are other ways to make the game replayable. Destiny, like all games with the concept of an end game, is based on replaying content. Reusing content. Half the reason working in the game industry is so miserable is because of crunch periods. "Always pushing new content." the only thing destiny should worry about is revitalizing the content it already has. making the game a more decision-based hobby when you choose to take part every week. For example, one of the endgame drives for a lot of players is the cosmetic portion of the game. Weeklies that reward bright dust incentivize players to play gambit, strikes, and crucible every week. why does the rest of the game have to feel like a waste of time when you take part in it? They've created so many story missions that could be utilized the same way as strikes. Picture a story mission playlist that is structured the same, and it has end game incentives such as bright dust weekly bounties. they're could be a playlist for patrol god dammit! send three players into a planet and give em ten minutes to achieve as much as they can, then reward them based on a score. Weekly bounties for bright dust as well they talk so much about the weapons getting overused... they've made so many missions, adventures and lost sectors that are practically only played once. So much of the PVE portion of the game is so poorly utilized. Downright forgotten. If i'm only playing for bright dust in the first place, for example, I just want to be able to decide how I spend my time. I would love to farm god rolls or powerful gear from story missions or patrols. Dare I say it, even from the black armory, menagerie, or seasonal activities that will soon be forgotten, could be utilized in a similar way. Just give me a damn reason to not go butt-blam!- the same couple of strike bosses every week. When I could kill anything I feel like doing. It's all very similar in difficulty. crucible will always be more replayable then pve because of the human variable. human competitiveness, as well as tomfoolery alone, makes that interesting That's why I think pve needs some dire attention. "Simple" attention. I don't know why they throw half of they're pve content by the wayside. If Bungie is worried about limiting the amount of bright dust players are earning each week then after three sets of weeklies are completed, say that's they've met the weekly quota! And then any additional weeklies completed that week only reward xp. I understand they need to make money so they oversee the economy when it comes to earning the currency. as well They could be worried about player traction in playlists. For example, if there are too many choices, less popular stuff could lack players for matchmaking. Then put them -blam!- on a rotation! Story mission playlists one week. Strikes the next week. Patrol after that! similar to how they fixed black armory, although I believe that was on a daily rotation. If they're worried about lore emersion... Just say we're -blam!-ing around in Ikora's meditation for story missions. She can suck our subconscious up her butthole with some hidden void warlock bullshit for all I care. basically I have complete faith in their writing. They can figure something out. I swear... just give Nokris a break... his dad already hates him. I don't need to absolutely defile him and then his corpse every week. I would rather relive some story missions I've only played once. Or go into a lost sector that is nowhere near a spawn location on a planet. so therefore never entered... by anyone... utilize "all" your content wisely with endgame incentives. Own the repetition if its the foundation of your game.

It worked for TTK, D2's launch, & Forsaken.

Making content is hard.

I like trying out new weapons and i also like keeping and using my old favorites... I wasn't too fussed on the past seasons activities (the saint 14 story was ok) but i did like the new weapons, there was some cool ones that have become new favorites... I didn't "need" the new weapons but it's fun to try them, i don't need to be forced to use new weapons, i want to, but i dont want my old favorites to eventually become irrelevant in any way... Bungie always says they want our choices to be meaningful, but in my opinion giving weapons a "use by date" makes them less meaningful...

the seasonal dissapearing content model is how you get people to not play destiny 2, this weapon retirement is just another nail in the coffin

7 RepliesEdited by W33DEDPLAGUE: 3/5/2020 5:42:43 PMJeez...the weapons will still be viable in 95% of the game. You cant use them in about 3 endgame activities, what will we ever do? This change means the loot we will be chasing can actually be made to be worth chasing and not be put in my vault permanently, plus we will have them be viable for a year, plenty of time to get use out of it. Bungie can spend time and resources on new content instead of spending it on balancing the same weapons for the 10th time for a new season. Everybody here ALWAYS sees the glass as half empty. It is what it is, you will realize soon enough that this might actually be a good thing going forward.

All this update will do is make power creep worse, the new guns will have to be better than the old ones otherwise we will just use the old ones in the other 95% of the game and only use the new ones for the few endgame activities that aren’t even challenging in the first place. I find it ironic how all of the streamers and YouTubers are pushing for weapon retirement the week before trials comes out. I’ll be quitting the game after this next update and don’t plan on coming back unless they reverse this update.

4 RepliesDude theve done this 3 times now without people noticing it and they did it in d1 and worked out just fine

All the money we spent on ornaments for different weapons just wasted

It will all depend on the details of implementation. For example, if they don't update the loot pools for the core activities, participation will wane over time. People will move to the activities that provide loot that can be infused. This will also lead to FOMO. Once the loot pool changes, people will even be less inclined to let go of their gun because you can't get them back. On the flip side, if guns from the core activities scale all the way to max level, all the time. What does get pulled out of rotation will be a much smaller subset of weapons; likely only world drops. That isn't really solving the issue Bungie is after. I think a better solution might be to limit certain activities to a specific set of guns; guns that are fix rolled and vendor purchased. Then, let the activity grant some currency that can be used to vendor purchase random rolls of that same loot pool. I would think that would make the competitive modes fair and balanced while PVE modes will have a limited set of guns to work from. You could even make it so said guns cannot be used outside of their respective activities.

4 RepliesI think people are over reacting...I'm tired of using the same weapons all the time...I'm ready to get new ones and get tired of using those all the time...can't wait.
-
1 ReplyIt’s not like they’re ripping the weapons out of your hands. You got a solid 9-15 months of more playtime on weapons that you’ve had more months or years. The way it is now I have an entire vault filled with god roll weapons that I’ll never touch because pinnacles are just better or because I already have a set of god rolls.

Here's where I think people have really, and I mean seriously need to take a step back and see that wanting to pull meaningful value from putting in time in a video game is a poor life decision. It's not a privilege to have value in something you enjoy it's a choice. I think its good to have discourse and have conversations about the content of a game people play and enjoy. When it gets to the argument of "I've played this game for hours I quit my job to invest hours into this game" we've gone to far. At the end of the day if you put effort into this game in a genuine way and you've practiced and put ammounts of effort into learning and not grinding a god roll this won't be difficult because game sense transcends any gun in your arsenal.

6 RepliesYou do realize that you can still use your weapons, right... Trials and iron banner, no, ordeal, no, LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE, YES!!!!
