Or to say the same thing in less words: the best art of the decade.
I don't mind if you answer with just one medium or all of the above, but tell me what you would place as the best this decade had to offer. I'll refrain from posting my own entries so I don't take answers away from all of you.
And if this post gets enough responses, I'll start a "popular mentions" list in the OP. So if a given piece of art receives... let's say five or more mentions, it will go here:
Popular Mentions:
Destiny 1 makes the first popular mention, (6 mentions) I suppose this isn't a surprise since we're speaking on the Bungie forums!
Dark Souls (as a series) (5 mentions!)
To be fair, I might be the only one here who cares the decade is ending lol.
1 ReplyEdited by SpongyMallard7: 12/18/2019 12:20:41 AMMass Effect 1 or 2 are the best games of the decade. I can see arguments being made for either one. EDIT: I goofed. ME1 released in 07.

2 RepliesSo I was gonna hop on here and give a review of my #1 movie of the decade, but as it turns out I’m not as great at reviewing movies as I am games. So, it’s Frozen 2. Elsa let her hair down, instant 10/10. I’m kidding! I did love Frozen 2, but I’ve got to give my vote to; Steven Universe the Movie. It just really hit close to home, and managed its themes of coping with trauma and abandonment really well. Also Spinel is the best character in.. Well, anything ever.

3 RepliesPersonal favorite game of the decade for me was DOOM, fast paced shooting, metal soundtrack, and guts everywhere, the king of shooters is back. Album of the decade would be Shadow of Intent's "Reclaimer" Album (It's basically The first two Halo games summarized in a death metal album) with my favorite song being "The Prophet's Beckoning" because of the final half of it. For movies, it would be Spiderverse for me, I've always been a fan of the creative usage of animation and Spiderverse did just that. Warning weeb shit incoming:
best anime of the decade for me is JoJo's part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable, I love the villain and the way that he's not powerful in combat due to strength but rather a terrifying ability to sneak around in plain sight (well there's also the part where he -blam!-ing blows shit up by touching it). Konosuba would be here if JoJo didn't come out this decade (the current rendation started in 2012)
4 RepliesMovie: Blade Runner 2049. Just a really well crafted movie and a great introduction to Cyberpunk fiction. Game: Dark Souls III, with honourable mentions for NieR: Automata and Destiny 1. Book: I don't read a lot of traditional books, so I'm just going to say the entire Attack On Titan manga series by Hajime Isayama. It's come a long way since it's beginning. Album: Trilogy by Carpenter Brut. As far as I'm concerned, this is the quintessential Synthwave/Darksynth album.

21 RepliesGame: Hollow Knight I’ve mentioned before that I don’t like using number ratings, but if you put a gun to my head and said “You’re going to give me a numeric rating for your favorite games, now!”, I’d probably only give them both (Skullgirls & Bloodborne) 4/5 stars. Both are great, but also have some pretty major flaws that I couldn’t just ignore in an objective rating system. You might understandably think “Oh, there’s no game he’d give a perfect score then.”, but that’s not true. I can think of one game whose flaws are so minor that I couldn’t remove a star for them. And that game is Hollow Knight. Hollow Knight has the best exploration I’ve ever seen in a game. It’s guided enough that you never feel lost, but open enough that you never feel like you’re never given any freedom, and every single optional path you take will always have something down it, ranging from health & SOUL upgrades, Charms, money, or at the very least, a relaxing hot spring. The game is easy enough that most people can get through to the regular ending, but it’s not afraid to put really tough barriers behind optional activities. And on that note, I have to specifically point out how masterfully they pulled off difficulty. There’s some decently challenging stuff that does reward you, but all of the super crazy stuff can all either be skipped, or the reward it offers you is just a trophy that doesn’t do anything more than give you bragging rights. Take Nightmare King Grimm for instance. For a long while, he was considered the hardest boss in the game, and for people aiming for max completion, having him be that 1% you still needed would be a bit infuriating. But, the fight can be circumvented entirely, still netting you that 112%, but giving you a not-as-great reward in its place. And then there’s stuff like the Path of Pain & Pantheon of Hallownest, which offer nothing more than a trophy for your efforts—no locking the less skilled players out of some super important piece of loot, but also still giving the hardcore players the challenge they crave. Beyond that specific piece of praise, it’s all just really well put together. Great exploration, fun platforming, amazing combat, great enemy variety, a well put together story, and 7x the length of a regular Metroivania, with quality all the way through. There aren’t many 70+ hour games I can say are 90%+ quality non-filler content, but Hollow Knight takes the cake, standing at the crown of what pretty much all games* should strive to be, imo. *obviously not literally all games. Some games are better short & sweet, and not all games need a big challenge. But, I mentioned it did have some minor flaws, so I will point those out. 1. There are two hidden walls in particular that are way too obscure. For the most part, they do a great job at hiding their hidden walls, while still giving hints they’re there, and the few that are nearly impossible to find don’t have anything super important in them.. Except for; -The hidden wall where you get Weaversong is pretty much impossible to see. I’ve gone in & out of this room hundreds of times, and I’ve still no clue how you’re supposed to know it’s there. -The hidden wall to the Hive. It’s the only one that’s not on solid ground. How you’re supposed to think to hit it is beyond me. 2. The DLCs don’t pace well with the base game. The Grimm Troupe, even activated at its earliest point, sends you back to rooms you’ve already been through with no other reason than to fight the Grimmkin, and Godmaster is locked behind a tough gauntlet, on top of the fact that Oro & Mato are way tougher than anything else you fight at that point in the game even if you make it. 3. And finally, the Pantheons don’t give you any reward, besides a completion %. This is fine for the PoH (which doesn’t even give %), but the other 4 should give you something. An extra Mask Shard, maybe? A nifty new Charm? At least some Geo! But all of that is ultimately pretty small. Hollow Knight’s probably the closest thing to perfection a game can be. At least imo.

4 RepliesEdited by ol azo: 12/17/2019 10:21:17 AMAlbum of the year? I would easily give it to Listen by David Guetta. The Wolf of Wallstreet or Django Unchained for the movie and Destiny Y1 for the game.

4 RepliesAlbum ? Something made by sabaton for sure.

3 RepliesAs far as games go, I’d have to say the soulsborne games. When every remotely difficult game is called the “dark souls” of its genre, you know that it must be something special. And now that Sekiro has won game of the year, they’ve definitely proven themselves. Music? I’m not super into mainstream, and music is pretty subjective. If I had to pick though, I’d say the album Uncomfortable by Andy Mineo is up there. Same with his album The Sword. If I am picking more mainstream, then I’d say maybe Flower Boy by Tyler, The Creator. But even then I don’t know much about it or anything else. Book? I’m not sure, I feel like books become more impactful as they age. But for me, I’d have to say A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. It’s just my favorite though. Marvel’s Avengers series is no doubt one of the most impactful movie series, especially for the decade.

15 RepliesEdited by concreteninja85: 12/16/2019 10:49:11 PMWhen it comes to the game of the decade I'd probably have to go with Dark Souls 3, to me that game was just a perfect send off for the series and had some of the most beautiful landscapes, one of the best game soundtracks, and some of the best boss battles in gaming history. Also, the fan service in this game was really a treat for me. Things like going back to Anor Londo, or being able to use the bonfire sword, or the various NPCs that returned from the first game, or the final boss using the move set of the final boss of the first game, or the final bosses theme keeping the same core melody of the first games final boss theme while changing the rest of the song were such awesome additions that really gave me a huge feeling of nostalgia. Definitely the best in the series in my opinion. When it comes to the album of the decade I think it's a toss up between Good Kid, M.A.A.D City and To Pimp a Butterfly, both by Kendrick Lamar. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City was some of the absolute best story telling I've ever heard in music, and it has a really great, unique and distinct sound, it was also very influential in terms of rap. To Pimp a Butterfly took the superb lyrical content that was on GKMC and put a very distinct socially conscious spin onto it, while also completely changing the sound to something more smooth, and much more jazz influenced, which is such a unique sound for a modern rap album. Such an ambitious project, definitely one of hip-hops finest in my opinion. This decade has been amazing for all of this stuff, I hope the next decade will be as good as this one.
Sorry for the massive reply, I just really like talking about the things I enjoy lol
1 ReplyI tried to give some "objective" insight along with my personal favorites. My personal favorite movie: Rogue One. [Objective] movie: Endgame. Never actually saw it myself, top selling, coolest movie, most hype, etc. My personal favorite game: Destiny 1. [Objective] game: Fortnite or Minecraft. Both of these games were so influential, I just hate Fortnite so... My personal favorite book: Life of Pi. (I know it didn't come out in the 2010s but I read it this decade) [Objective] book: Wonder. Very influential book, awards and all that. My personal favorite album: Evolve - Imagine Dragons. [Objective] album: 21 - Adele. I think this is the highest selling album, not bad from a singing standpoint obviously.

2 RepliesI couldn't possibly try to narrow it down to overall winners so I'll try and do it just for me. Movie: The Force Awakens. While this movie clearly has problems, it reignited in me a passion for Star Wars that had pretty much been dormant for a decade. I saw episode 3 in theaters in 2005 when I was only 9. When the Force Awakens came out in 2015 I was just really recovering from what I would call the worst year of my life and it made me feel like a child again. Album: The Stories We Tell Ourselves by Nothing More. I just love this album. Nothing More is probably my favorite band from the past few years and they finally started to gain some fame with this album. They got a grammy nomination for the song Go to War and that got them enough exposure that they opened for Breaking Benjamin and Five Finger Death Punch a year ago. I shelled out a lot of money to sit in the front row for that concert. Game: Destiny. This game had and has problems. Severe problems. Both games. But just like the Force Awakens I would be lying if I said I didn't love it. The Destiny franchise is easily my most played game of the decade. I thought that Runescape and Halo reach were close, they absolutely are not. Even combined they are dwarfed by my Destiny play time.

1 ReplyFrom a technical level, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild seems to take the cake. Minecraft deserves a mention because of it’s impact on pop culture. However when you boil it down, Minecraft isn’t an amazing game. Movie of the decade I’ll get back to you on that.

2 RepliesBook: The Name of the Wind (10th anniversary edition)
I cheated

baited
4 RepliesYou could be here all day with this, so it's tough to even narrow down. But to get the ball rolling, Dark Souls has echoed through this decade moreso than almost any other game.
