Enhancement Core Discussion

Hey all, In today's TWAB, we brought some info from the team concerning Enhancement Cores, their role in Destiny 2, and what plans we're looking at for the future. If you haven't read through, I've quoted the information below. Please sound off with your thoughts and feedback!
Strengthen Your Core As you make progress in Season of the Drifter, you’ll be making choices about which weapons and armor you want to power up first. We’ve been following the conversation around the use of Enhancement Cores for infusion. As a response, the Destiny Dev Team have some changes lined up that they want to share.
Destiny Dev Team: The goal of the infusion system is to create an impactful feeling of progression when you increase the Power of an item you enjoy using. An infusion system with no scarcity around the materials would diminish this impact. To that end, we tapped into a material with inherent scarceness, Enhancement Cores, to use as one of the keystone materials for this process. That is the goal the infusion system, but if the overall system is causing a negative experience, we want to work to improve it. We’re constantly monitoring the infusion economy to see what kind of impact it has on gear usage. We keep a close eye on the amount of infusion materials being earned versus how many are being used and will continue to make adjustments as needed. To that end, we’ll be making a change in Season of Opulence with the goal of providing more access to Enhancement Cores. Scrapper Bounties previously dropped randomly when dismantling gear. There was no reliable way to earn Enhancement Cores using these bounties, and we didn’t feel they were providing enough materials. We will be deprecating these bounties at the start of Season 7. (Note that any unfinished Scrapper Bounties still in your inventory when the new season begins can still be completed before their natural expiration.) In their place, the Gunsmith will now offer a selection of daily and weekly bounties that can be purchased for Gunsmith Materials. As with the Scrapper Bounties, each of these will include, among other things, an Enhancement Core as a reward when completed. Our hope is that this increased access and control over Enhancement Core acquisition will help improve the balance of materials being earned vs. materials being used. As always, we’ll be continuously monitoring this item economy, along with your feedback to assess its effectiveness.

• I’ve chimed in before but I’m going to keep adding. Creating a “to do list” to get materials required for power increases is not a solution. I’m speaking with my playtime lately. Playing less and playing other games, my time in the game is just not enjoyable when I have to go through so many convoluted steps to improve my gear. Do shareholders really see the playtime numbers Bungie shows them and believes them? Are they that ignorant that they think loading into multiple zones in a play session means “enjoying a variety of activities” when it really means “going to the tower or the spider for 1-3 minutes” or “5-10 minutes for a lost sector”? I’m not sure how those activities get recorded, but going through chores is not a meaningful or enjoyable experience. But hey. That’s just like, my opinion man.

      • Dictating how we have fun in a game for your own ideas off how we should be playing is not good game design. Take the cores away from infusion or have it so ever purple armour or weapons drops one core on dismantle? Again how you think something should work is fine but if it’s not fun it’s not good game design. I understand you want to strike a balance but at this point your not managing that.

        • The dev team’s goals for this game, in regard to enhancement cores, are meaningless. Remove them from infusion immediately. After this exploit, your economy is absolutely broken even more so than it already was. Just end it already! I’m so damn mad that I didn’t get a chance to use the exploit that I want to delete this game. Bungie dev team is so far off base and out of touch it’s clinically certifiable. You’ve ruined this game with your pointless control over the way we want to play as a community. You can either nut up and fix it or lose players.

        • Forget enhancement cores, how about spend less time making meaningless vanity items for your cash shop each season and spend more time refreshing vendor inventories with new weapons, armor, mods, and perks

        • I want to be very clear as dmg04 stated otherwise when locking a thread before reopening this one: Masterwork Cores being forced into the infusion economy IS a gamebreaking issue for many players. It does make for an experience breaking situation of not having the ability to use gear you’ve earned and collected up into whatever content level you may be up to. It is a broken progression system and mechanic. Rare, difficult, and expensive progression mechanics need to be limited to horizontal progression systems like Masterworking, not basic vertical progression like light level gains. TL;DR-just because there are ways to work around the current state of the game progression economy is in no way an indication that it is not broken or a massive design failure that needed to be addressed properly months ago.

          • If y'all would just do something about cores instead of taking one way of getting and moving it to a vendor which is what your doing with scrapper bounties .. I don't have a problem with the cores becaused I saved mine and didnt master work anything .. what I have problem with is that you haven't done anything about it and players found and exploit with pinnacle weapons and because of it I can't grab recluse .. I need 9% on wins to get it and I can't cause it's disabled .. that's not cool Who wouldn't exploit a way to get cores cause then you can actually use the cores to use the weapons and gear you want ... honestly what's meaningful about infusing nobody is racing to high power there is no raid .. this is just something your doing so players will play more ...

          • With the unlimited core glitch from today, people got a HUGE leg up by being able to masterwork all their guns and gear. Rich get even richer...

              • Is it true that the exploit that has caused players who earned pinnacle weapons to not receive pinnacle weapons was being used to get a ton of enhancement cores by re- acquiring the fully masterworked pinnacle weapons and dismantling for 7 cores? Because if so it’s too bad you didn’t just remove enhancement cores from infusion so players didn’t have incentive to find and use this exploit.

                  • Since bungie removed the pinnacle weapon bug they also seemed to have broke the enhancement cores. I have dismantled all my not needed loot tonight including legendary and 1 exotic I had a duplicate of and not one core dropped... not one. Usually I would get a least 1 from approx 20 weapons/armour dismantles

                    • I wouldn't say the cores need to be removed from the game just change it to where they are only used for masterworking weapons at the level 10 part to actually masterwork weapons and armor. Remove from infusion and decrease the amount of shards required to by cores from spider.

                      • If this was a “discussion” you’d be considering the overwhelmingly popular ideas of the community. Enhancement Cores were perfectly fine when they were “Masterwork Cores”... instead, Enchantment Cores are now used for Infusion AND Masterworking. Not to mention the cost to Masterwork was drastically increased... when I get a new Primary weapon and a new Heavy weapon that are drastically higher in Power. I shouldn’t be forced to used the weak weapons I just got because they’re “Power” is higher, just because I don’t have the Enhancement Cores to Infuse one or both up. Especially when content is so strongly “Power Level” based.
