When D2 launched I was filled with hope.
But after launch my D1 team quit the game and moved on. But I remained faithful.
Now, as a solo player, I find this game alienates me. In season 5 going into 6 I find it does this more than ever.
You put timers on the Nightfall - an activity I used to LOVE doing solo in D1. But now, having to complete the NF in under 20 mins is no fun. It's just stressful. What's more is you locked the unique loot behind this activity that is WAY more high pressure than the D1 Nightfall. (Question: why on earth did you mess around with something that wasn't broken?)
The Clan system encourages stacked teams in PvP environments far more than D1 ever did, who often have pinnacle weapons long before any solo player. Which makes them even more stressful to face against. Increasing the grind for the solo player exponentially.
Gambit... I love Gambit but you honestly can't compete against a coordinated team in solo queue. Another game mode that squeezes out solo players.
The Raids up until Scourge of the Past were also very heavily mechanic and communication based. Clearly they are being tailored towards hardcore teams, which makes it difficult to get a band of randoms together and find success. But granted, Scourge is a raid that is quite friendly to the solo players. But nevertheless, the other raids have been too complex to enjoy as a group of solo players.
You've built everything in this game around teams and you've completely forgotten about the solo population.
Now, with Season of the Drifter around the corner, I fear this season is going to be worse than season 5 for alienating solo players.
Bungie, I loved D1. Because it had something for everyone. It didn't have timers, mechanics and score thresholds on absolutely every activity just to make it high pressure and fast paced. Look at VoG - that raid could be finished with only 1 or 2 people on microphone, and guess what? That didn't make it easy! But it made it accessible to solo players! And that is by far your most popular raid that you've ever made. IT HIT THE BALANCE JUST RIGHT.
I know this will never go anywhere, but I feel I need to submit my feedback before I move on. Which may be within the next week if I find this season alienates me even more than the game already does.
At the least, can you stop putting timers on everything? And can you maybe, just for once, design something that solo players can enjoy without sweating their face off and feeling their heart thrash inside their chest? Why can't we go back to the good old days of VoG, before you ruined everything with your high-octane action push.
The solo population is a big part of your community! Can you PLEASE bare that in mind as you move forward.
Please.

1 ReplyI agree. I am 68 and I like playing alone but after a while there is nothing new for us. My hands do not let me compete much and I always let who I am playing down.

2 Replies*not* *a* *solo* *game*

5 RepliesNeed a clan? I was in the same boat, everyone I knew quit playing. Played solo until Solstice and rebuilt my clan so I could masterwork the armor. We are super chill, we play every part of the game, and I help anyone do anything. The only difficult raid is Last Wish and that is if you do Riven legit, and it is more chaotic than difficult. Maybe you just had shitty teachers on the others? Playing this game solo is definitely boring and more of a chore. So, the offer is there if you'd like.

1 ReplyEdited by zmach1: 3/6/2019 11:47:46 AMI agree with most of what you have mentioned. Though I don’t just play solo, I have found that the lone wolf “go out and just do stuff solo” part of the game has become extremely stagnant. Heck, if they just cleaned out the old “day one” standard loot and restocked with new loot, simply diving back into some of the more repititious parts of the game would be more fun to play again and again.

7 RepliesAnthem is solo friendly. I'm enjoying that aspect a lot.

5 RepliesEdited by blade329: 3/5/2019 3:57:28 PM
Question: why on earth did you mess around with something that wasn't broken?
There are several things that Bungie has consistently done in Destiny since the beginning. 1. Create excellent music 2. Fix things that aren't broken 3. Remove choices
Now, as a solo player, I find this game alienates me.
This game isn't for us. This is the friendship game. It's designed to be team oriented. Not because they give a rats ass if you make friends, but because they know that playing with friends extends the life of game with less effort and content on their part. Makes business sense.

1 ReplyYeah it's almost like this game was made with people playing together in mind

30 RepliesLets look at what Destiny is, and isn't on paper. Destiny 2 is an online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. It was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017, followed by a Microsoft Windows version the following month. It is the sequel to 2014's Destiny and its subsequent expansions 1) - its a Multiplayer game. 2) - if you are at a social disadvantage because of your lack of social development or willingness to make new friends, clan mates, its your fault not the game developers. 3) - most of the activities with the exception of the raids, are easy, and easy to solo. 4) - there are no timers on the Nightfall that will enable a wipe, there is a timer that influences how the scoring works for the best score, but you get loot in anyway for completing it without the score. 5) - D2 has focused their game play around clans, multiplayer, clan ranks etc., so yes - you will be isolated as a solo player, they are not going to change the game for you, unfortunately. maybe consider taking a break, or playing a different game all together.

Almost everything in the game can be done solo, your ability to succeed at it what's important.

1 ReplyLonely I'm so lonely I have nobody. I'm so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely

7 RepliesWhy do people keep saying the entire game is based around having a fireteam when almost every bit of content is doable solo?
-
1 ReplyUhh I play solo and I enjoy this game a lot like seriously lol
-
I completely agree with you but now I lfg almost everything. If your struggling send me a friend request if your on ps4 I’ll help you with raids nightfall’s gambit anything if I have the time
-
It's easy to find people to play with. Especially nightfall. You just obviously aren't looking.

1 ReplyI find solo Gambit actually relaxing. Let me explain before you grab the straight jacket. Going in solo, I expect to lose and have dumb teammates. When that happens, I just switch to working on bounties. However there are times that I’ve hopped in solo against full fireteams and we just pooped all over them. It’s times like that which make it worth the dumb times. As far as nightfalls, I’ve actually found that if you ask for help here you will get it. It’s true that the forums can. E sodium filled at times, but there are still good people here. If you’re on Xbox and you need a run, look up Rohirin. I’m usually on in the evenings. ✌️

1 ReplyEdited by Seoul: 3/5/2019 11:28:39 PMThis is kinda why I just play Destiny 2 for crucible. I'm strictly a pvp player, never done a raid nor nightfall, been like that since d1 beta.

3 RepliesEdited by TheCyo: 3/5/2019 10:53:11 PMTo all the "this is a team game, what do you expect" crowd just one simple question: Overwatch is a game that even more emphasizes team play and still it is possible for a solo player to reach the highest echelons in competitive game play, a feat not possible in Destiny. Please tell me why?

4 RepliesEdited by Lost Sols: 3/5/2019 12:51:26 PMGreat post. Sucks you had to write it, but I hope they read it. One of the most disappointing things in year 2 for me has been how the game got even worse solo players. I spent a lot of time talking to Bungie about the need for more solo friendly endgame and really hoped it would be a priority. What's ironic, particularly with the Nightfalls and timers, is that's one of the examples I gave. In D1 year 1, I would solo the NF on all 3 characters first thing every week. Since then they've progressively made them worse experiences from both how they work and loot. That said, one of the things the devs have shared a lot of is posts from players that soloed Shattered Throne. I believe DMG was even asking for tweets from people who had done it last week or so. So obviously they understand that solo challenges are cool and people like them... Yet that doesn't translate to more solo accessible content anywhere else. Makes no sense.

2 RepliesLike you I'm a solo player whose friends deserted D2 over the Corse of Osiris debacle. I took a long break myself until last summer but gave Forsaken a go. I was really impressed but try as I might could not persuade my lapsed friends to return. So I just got on with it. However, I must defend the game to a certain extent. Destiny is not and never has been a game for solo players. Can you play solo? Of course. Can you get all the end game content and complete the toughest challenges alone? No. I've accepted that since September and play the game within those limitations. And if you think Nightfall still has a 20 minute timer you obviously haven't attempted it in a while. Yes, you have to do it in that time for 100K score, but you can still complete it in your own time if you've got the skills and patience. Which I don't! What needs to be overhauled is Lfg. I've never completed a Raid since December 2017 because Lfg is such a dumpster fire. I resorted to Lfg to complete the Corrupted mission for Malfeasance and to complete Shattered Throne but it's such a fleeting experience. Nobody wants to stay together afterwards to continue quests; I specifically request mic only but nobody ever has one on. And all this is after you've gone through a ridiculous process of joining a group, waiting for a friend invite, then waiting to join the actual team. Want to Raid but don't "kwtd"? Forget it. I see so many of these posts from frustrated solo players. The irony is that if we all teamed up, we'd have a huge, successful clan! On that note, if any lonely Guardians out there are in UK, on PS4 and want to Raid, Nightfall, Shattered Throne, Gambit or even - God forbid, Crucible - hit me up. All I ask is that you have and are willing to use a working mic, don't be a sweaty try-hard and remember that we're playing a game. Which is supposed to be fun.

I am a solo player and you just have to make the best of it. if you played d1 then you should know this game is meant for playing with a team. There is still a lot you can do solo and the activities you need another person for use lfg. I also had a team for d1 and they no longer play, doing everything solo has made me better at the game and even though things are a little harder and take a bit longer to complete at least I can say I can do it on my own.

102 RepliesWhy would you play destiny as a solo player? That's like hating PvP and firing up fortnite/cod and then whining that it's bad. You're missing the point of the game. I'm not gonna go to the forums of the witcher 3 and start whining that it's bad at catering to me as a co-op focused gamer. I just don't buy it. It's a multiplayer game.
-
1 ReplyThere's a lot of cool and fun games for single players. Destiny is more focused on a cooperative experience. Why you chose destiny to be the game you play solo I don't know.
-
All I really want back are my damn skeleton keys and strike specific loot NOT just nightfall specific.
-
Even soloing the nightfall isn’t stressful in 20mins. Also is one of the “endgame” activities so you should have to focus at least a little. You are whining to whine.
-
1 ReplyEdited by The Oracle: 3/4/2019 5:13:19 PMAs a fellow solo player I disagree, only annoying thing really is gambit team mates. If I want to do raids and stuff I just use lfg and if the mechanics seem to much I ask my team to walk me through or I just hit up Datto and watch his vids

2 RepliesNightfall isn’t timed any more.
