For god's sake keep loss mechanics out of quests

Basically what the title says. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing a huge chunk of your progress disappear. Especially if you HATE doing the activity. It's bull crap, lazy padding to extend play. If you REALLY want to extend the grind keep it FIXED but a bit longer. This only punishes average players. Hyper competitive sweats will have no problem breezing through, but average players (the crucible step for Last word for instance) will be disproportionately punished. It is poorly designed. Have the step be, kill 150 players, or something. It is even, fair and not going to punish average to lower skill players by taking away progress. Or put a cap on total loss per match.

  • disagree - loss mechanics shouldn't be on every quest, but they also aren't just padding. they require you to plan and play accordingly instead of being allowed to just potato around. this isn't a 'get good' comment. Malfeasance is a great example of this. you want the gun, you have to play Gambit and be smart about it. This step of TLW is no different.

  • Its +2 for a kill and -1 for a death. That means you need 50 kills without dying to win. If you ran an even kd and made those same 50 kills you would be at an even 50%. Asuming you get at least 10 kills per match, wich would be on a low end with at least an even kd, you would earn 10% per game, and only need to play ten games at that rate. At aprox 10 minutes per game, thats under two hours, if you only made a 5% increase per game, you would have it done in 20 games. Obviously you are gonna have some good and some horrible games, but thats still not a super long time, during wich you are working on a weekly and daily and can complete some bounties at the same time.

As a player who's NEVER had a positive average KD, ever, since the launch of D1, if I can get Thorn with my Potato skills, I can and will get TLW. It's going to be hard for me, but I'm going to get it.

    • The thing is, I had no problem with the Last Word quest. It was a breeze for me. But I still think that the loss mechanic shouldn't be included. You can get to 98% and have a major chunk of progress taken away if you get a bad match. I was lucky enough to get decent ones while doing the quest, but shortly after ran into a full clan in quickplay that all sat in the back and sniped/teamshot. They were unstoppable. I would have lost quite a bit of progress. The quest for Malfeasance was even worse. Whether or not you could make progress was entirely dependant on if your team was better than the enemy's. Because if they were better, you couldn't bank motes because there was always a blocker there and every time you got motes, an invader would deny you all of them with a simple point and click Queenbreaker shot. Tldr loss mechanics would be fine but this game has too much bs and too many matchmaking problems for it.

    • I see all the comments and I think the problem is it’s not working the same for everyone for some reason. The entire time I did the quest I’d get a kill and go up and the next death put me right back. The only way I could get progress in percentage was to get kill streaks to increase the percentage gains. But it definitely wasn’t as simple as “just have a .6 kd or higher”. I had a friend who got completely different gains when he was on this step. So I think there is some bug affecting some player progress. Im done with the quest now but I just wanted to put this out there to encourage anyone who is confused and got the same problems I ran into. Just go for streaks of multiple kills in a row and that should get you there.

    • I don't see the issue as you only need a .6 K/D at minimum to get the Last Word crucible quest steps completed. You get 2 points for 1 kill and -1 for a death, if you have 20 kills but only have a 1 K/D then you would have 20 points thus making progress (Average Player). Even if you manage only 5 kills but die 7 times you would still be making progress albeit slow progress, however at that point you have to consider what the purpose of grinding for a PVP weapon is, because lets be honest your not going to use the last word in a raid or a strike.

        • I feel it is fine sweats won’t have an issue, average players will get it done. Players that need work will learn better tactics and get it or just let it be in which case they don’t deserve it. It’s an opportunity to improve your gameplay. Take advantage of it.

        • I respectfully disagree. The difficulty is fine. It's a challenge. It should feel like a challenge. I'm a shitty PvP player as well. But when faced with adversity I grit my teeth and keep going. You're not alone. There are people who can help. There are play styles that are safe. You can do this! We believe in you guardian.         • No loss mechanic makes it too easy. Creating a system where you avoid RNG means it will be difficult. I rather this than an terrible drop rate. I’m pretty sure the response to the feedback will be to modify the step and turn it into gettting a certain score in comp. where losses still hurt. The fact that you can go negative and still get the gun and get ppl still complain is insane. They didn’t time gate, they didn’t ask you to win more than you lose, they didn’t ask for a gold medal. They simply asked you to play the game at your own pace.

        • Did it in three games, if you can't get a 1kd, or even just over a 0.6kd and play smart, why do you deserve the weapon? Even the lore regarding the weapon is guardian vs guardian, deal with it....

            It's bad but not the worst thing in the world...kinda forces you to be passive and then when ready go for the kill (In mayhem I mean. That's my strategy) Also I'm noticing that I'm only getting 1% every kill and sometimes 2% when I die.

          • I don’t have a problem with loss mechanics, but every time a quest is added with loss mechanics, crucible Goes batshit crazy, so even the players who aren’t doing the quest have to deal with all the pvp sweats

          • I play PvE 95% of the time I play d2. It took me 2hours and 30 minutes roughly to do this entire quest. You literally just need to play safe and stick with your team. If you don't have basic understanding of PvP and can't change your playstyle to play more safe to get kills, then you don't deserve the gun which is useless in PvE.

          • Yes its another -blam!-ED up Bungie quest line. I pre-ordered Foresaken for the cool add-ons, especially for Ace of Spades. I still havent completed that shit weapon quest and never will.
