Lunas Howl stopped me playing Destiny (ruined my PVP experience)

Hi Bungie, Just letting you know I really enjoyed Destiny 2 Forsaken. It was great, until Luna’s Howl came along. The fact that a pinnacle weapon is only available to better players ruined my PVP experience. This isn’t speaking for everyone, it’s my experience (and my friends’) as I explain below. So for me it went as follows... I tried to get it... however I dont’ have a skilled fireteam to group with. I therefore tried soloing... but failed, due to time available and skill. The remaining option was account recovery but I refuse to do this. It must be a big market based on Google search results though. As time went on more and more people had it... PVP became frustrating as in an equal encounter (both hit our shots) I lost due to the better TTK of Lunas. I don’t mind losing encounters based on skill, but I do mind having a disadvantage ongoing that I can’t grind to remove. This was frustrating and without exaggerating, genuinely ruined PVP for me. I don’t mind grinding for to be on equal terms, in fact I enjoy it, but putting advantages behind the firewalls above (high skill/fireteam carry/account recovery) is the wrong thing in my opinion. I was stuck without a way to get it. The result was a frustrating PVP experience which stopped me and my friends) playing... We are casual gaming friends who enjoyed the experience of Forsaken but stopped playing after trying and failing Luna’s and finding crucible frustrating as the number of players with it increased. It just wasn’t fun knowing they had an advantage you couldn’t grind past, this would be forever. Even if the meta changed, there would be another pinnacle weapon with an advantage for high rank comp players as this is the weapon unlock model. So we stopped and changed games, we wouldn’t have done this with a pinnacle weapon grind model (vs comp rank) So... my request would be to make aesthetic items pinnacle, such as skins for weapons and guardians BUT leave the weapons as accessible for all with a long grind and not behind the firewalls (high skill and time/fireteam carry/account recovery). If you do this my friends and I will see Destiny as my main go to game ongoing and buy the expansions... if you don’t I won’t. Please listen as I loved playing Destiny 2 Forsaken until this point! Please listen Bungie!

  • Real match making would also help. Solos regularly playing against higher skilled, full teams is score padding. If someone pays for they weapons they should be restricted to match making that pits them against the people that can honestly grind for it.

      • I finished Luna within 3 days and never went for nf. About 3-4 hours each night. This weapon is soo easily obtainable I’m not that great at pvp about 1.4k/d and I was able to obtain it. Just use LFG not having friends or a fireteam is the dumbest excuse I’ve heard and it only comes from the players who don’t attempt it. I met many team along the way and they showed me the way. The grind is worth it just go get it man.

        • Lunas should have been a pinacle reward for normal crucible and NF for comp like it is now. that's just my opinion tho

            • Spent 15 minutes reading this and everyone's responses to this post. I am in total agreement with this post. It has killed PvP for me. I understand that it is supposed to be hard to get. HOWEVER, Bungie have not exactly helped people who was unable to get it in season 3. To all those who have said "Well why didn't you get it in season 3" just stop. You do not know any individuals circumstances, they might not have even owned destiny at that point. So now these people want to play comp, they want to get Luna's and i am one of them. But we can't. Now i know i am not a good PvP player. But i also know i am better than some. However. as early as 300 points into my comp journey, i came across 4 stacks with not forgotten. I am playing solo. Clearly, the people i am playing against are on a whole higher skill level which is fair enough good for them, congrats. However adding the total disadvantage of not having a not forgotten or lunas, plus the communication these teams have. It is a near impossible journey for some. People are suggesting just give up and seek other options like pulse rifles etc, that is not my play style and it might not be someone elses. I have friends in another clan, who between them have made over $2,000 USD in 2 weeks playing other peoples accounts because people have gave up on this. One of google's top search results is people selling "guarantee Lunas and not forgotten" runs. To the people just calling people who have not got the gun because we are all apparently trash, please use your brain and realize we are not fighting people of similar skill etc as we level. We are fighting people who have gotten not forgotten etc before because you can cheese the comp matchmaker if you had the weapon previously. This is how my friends have made thousands playing other peoples accounts for them.

              • Player skill is more important than the weapon someone is using. A good player can do well with any weapon. I don't have Luna's Howl (because I don't want to step foot in competitive) and I routinely outgun people using it with the Ikelos hand cannon lol.

                  Here is what you do: STEP 1: Unlock Gofannon Forge STEP 2: Farm the Kindled Orchid hand cannon for a decent roll STEP 3: Wreck LH users until they send hate messages about how your crutch gun means you are a trash player and how they did stuff to your mom and etc etc etc

                  • i don’t know how to feel about it anymore. i used to be of the mind that it was balanced and their were plenty of counters but that isn’t really true if i’m honest with myself. the only weapon i use that can even compete with lunas howl is my explosive rounds+max range (no range masterwork but accurized rounds and fullbore) trust, and even it falls short sometimes. people will say that it has a skillgap and is balanced because it requires you to hit headshots for it to work, but with the aim assist in this game and the laser beam stability that lunas howl has, anyone with thumbs can hit two consecutive headshots and a bodyshot. the very least that bungie should do is make it so that the magnificent howl bullet only does extra damage to the head, and also make it so that it only applies to one target so that you can’t clean up one weak guy with two headshots and then have magnificent howl ready to two shot the next person. it may also need a stability nerf in my opinion. like i said, i don’t even know how to feel about it anymore. the more i dwell on it the more i feel like it should just never have been added in the first place. it creates more problems than it solves. the sandbox is so well balanced right now with the exceptions of lunas howl and not forgotten, i feel like it would be perfect if they just did not exist.

                    • The solution is pretty simple.... Allow SBMM to work. If Luna's provides an advantage over you, that user will move out of your games. Those Luna's players that remain in your SBMM games apparently can't use it to their advantage, so it doesn't matter. I went through this in D1 when the Doctrine of Passing (A Trials pinnacle auto rifle) first appeared. The DoP was an awesome hi-RoF auto rifle that could melt you faster than you could say "melt". It provided users an unfair advantage in tighter maps - when compared to those without it. But.... it didn't matter then, because the DoP users moved out of my games due to SBMM.

                        • I've got my IB stuff and my perfect Wishbringer, so I'm done with PvP for a long time. Introducing Luna's Howl was honestly one of the worst decisions they've made regarding D2 PvP. Anyone that says "A person with Luna's Howl could outgun you with any other weapon" is a complete moron. Luna's Howl needs just 2H1B to kill and 180s are the easiest Hand Cannons to hit head shots with on console. Any other 180 will need either 4H or 3H1B to kill. Most maps are still pretty small and cater to Luna's range as well.

                          • I think they should do what they did with the Prometheus Lens when it was broken in Crucible. Make it more accessible to all players and once they can find a way to balance it or drop it out of the meta. Even if you can do it in qp at a reduced speed. (Say double the kills if you're doing it in qp and make you have to reset your valor rank for Luna's then for Not Forgotten reset 3 times in one season.) It'll at least give people a reason to reset valor again and bring some balance back to crucible.

                            • Loved this game I really did until I decided to go for this God damn gun I love hand cannons and really wanted Luna but doing this grind has killed this game to the point where I cant stand it I'm all for a challenge I dont have anyone to really play with because all my friends thinks this game sucks and now I see where their coming from when i lose 8 -blam!-ing games in a row and go from brave 2 back down to guardian makes me want to break a controller matchmaking sucks play against elite teams and paired with a garbage team every single time havent gotten a win or a good game in two days the losing ranks and garbage games are killing my motivation to continue going for this gun and when your on your 6th lose in a row and your on another shit team getting shut out 5 to nothing or 5 to 1 every -blam!-ing game started backing out of games what the yell right going to lose another -blam!-ing game what sit thro the torture then I get suspended -blam!- this game fix it so everyone has a chance to get everything already on my second controller........I cant wait for anthem to I can break this game not even going to trade it in just going to break it the rage and aggravation this game has gave me since deciding to go for this gun has been unbelievable I hate crucible with a burning passion

                                • You're far from alone given how many people have just stopped playing crucible. Bungie knows it...just look at how many Hawthorne bounties are crucible every day now trying to force people back in. Theyll either have to do something about it eventually or just watch more people stop playing. They're just too stubborn to admit making a pinnacle weapon the meta was a bad decision.

                                  • I agree if anything comp needs severe changes. And honestly it's absolutely disgusting how some players are commenting on this thread. Not all but some. Elitism is and has always ruined games. So with that in mind we need to talk about how to strike a balance between hardcore and casuals because. If the casuals leave you're gonna get nonstop sweaty matches and then complain why they left. So with that being said here's my proposal for comp and lunas in general. For comp points should be 34 for a win 15 for a loss across all ranks not just brave to fabled. Secondly only for lunas, make the quest require wins instead of fabled so even if you don't have a high percentage you have a decent chance of obtaining it. Now keep in mind this is only for lunas. Not forgotten will be the same hit legend. And as for how many wins im between 50 to 75 wins so its not a complete push over. I think that'd be the better outcome rather than this toxic cesspool we have right now in comp.

                                      In a way your frustrations are understandable. Many people i have talked with gave up on pursing the Luna's howl and not forgotten hand cannon quests mainly because of the comp playlist and how bad it is in its current state. Comp needs to reworked from the ground up. Maybe reducing the penalties for losing for one thing is the best way to fix comp. Since Luna and Not Forgotten needed to reach a certain rank in the comp playlist it's impossible given how harsh you're punished for losing. Matchmaking is also a big problem. Maybe it's just me but also making the crucible bounties count toward your rank might help a little bit too. I do know that Bungie mentioned something working on the comp playlist in the beginning of the new year so let's just hope they make comp more tolerable for everyone.

                                      • Luna and NF are a problem because they are both weapons that cheat their archetypes in terms of TTK. Sure, there's other weapon that do the same but 180 HC's already have a fast TTK since Forsaken, so adding a perk that further reduces it was a bad idea. In the same way some people like to argue that the reason you struggle against Luna is because you're bad with other weapons, you can also tell them the people they are claiming to beat who are using Luna are bad. A quick look at weapon % usages across both QP and Comp shows Luna is being overused, which is funny because not everyone has it.

                                          • The fact of the matter is that Bungie is really good at alienating segments for their player base. This is just another example of that. Just another thing to piss people off and push them away from this game. You will see many comments saying "get gud", "you have to earn it" or "if you don't like it, then leave". Be careful what you wish for. Casuals are needed to make this game fun. You guys always complain about crucible being so sweaty. Well who the hell do you think you are going to be playing against if the casuals leave? Remember year 3 trials, when people were whining how sweaty it was? Take a guess why trials was so sweaty... I am fine with having exclusive weapons for good PvP players, but perks should not be exclusive. There should be a weapon with similar perks that you can grind Iron Banner to get.

                                              • I understand your viewpoint and respect it, i have luna’s howl and it wasn’t terribly easy to get either, i like the gun, but i kinda feel bad for the people that are ethical (won’t pay some fat guy on a couch to get it) and aren’t skilled enough to get it themselves. Most everything in destiny can be completed by even the most casual of players, even most raids, but the quest for luna’s howl was a shout out to the elite pvp players and streamers that play the game, and not the average gamer, it is a bad move in my opinion as it alienated quite a few destiny players, i myself am becoming pretty sick of destiny in spite of buying all of d1 and all of d2 up to forsaken, i love the ideas behind destiny but it seems that with every content drop they just become worse and worse, less ideas and more pointless grind with little rewards worth the effort.

                                                • I'm sorry man but this will fall on deaf ears. I made a few posts like this and I have Luna and got 3700 solo last season this season it's whole lot harder to get anywhere. The gun is just too good and the people who earned it are very good. You can say fight at a distance with a pulse or scout but any good player knows when to pull back and reposition with a low range weapon. Even at it's damage fall of range it's still a 4 tap where other 180's might be 5-6 taps. I've been trying to think of a way for them to balance it but to no avail. You can litteraly shut down roaming supers with this gun better than you can with a sniper rifle and even some heavy weapons. Something has to be done about it. He'll make them 150's and I bet everyone will stop using it except the niche players "because controlling recoil on a lightweight hand cannon is too hard" I'm quoting that from someone who replied to my post about changing these from precision hand cannons to lightweight hand cannons.

                                                  • Idk if there is a way to fix it without killing pvp. Trials flawless was purely aesthetics but most casuals here still cried about it to the point that they removed it from the game. I can agree that losing to a better gun is demoralizing but I don’t think Luna’s Howl has anything to do with that. Bungie killed the 140/150 archetype of Handcannon on console. Bloom and recoil is ridiculous making them obsolete. When they reintroduced shotguns and the others as special weapons again they didn’t think about how it would affect sub machine guns and sidearms. The maps, which most were already to small for 4v4s, now somehow have to hold 12 guardians in them at a time? Crucible needs to get reworked. But I don’t think it’s the pinnacle weapons faults. Pinnacle weapons should be good. People should want to get them. But they shouldn’t be unable to compete against them. Which for console right now that is kinda the case.
