My theory around Cayde-6 and the story preview.
Cayde and his ghost were shot dead. That much is clear, whether his ghost will make a return im quite doubtful of. But, at the end of the preview someone is carrying Cayde away, that someone I firmly believe is the Exo Stranger -AKA Elsie Bray- (the cloak and boots match perfectly, and it ties into caydes connections to Braytech in the past)
her knowledge of the exos is unparalleled, she will most likely repair cayde and hell likely have to be rebooted.
Putting money on it.

Cloak of hunter carrying cayde is a full cloak and town ripped, the stranger cloak comes down in a V shape at the back and isn’t torn or ripped - the only part of the cloak that looks similar is the hood but seeing as many many cloak in d1 and d2 have that hooded design I’m sorry but you are probably wrong. Bungie have already said it’s a western theme and that’s why it show a hunter flying in with cayde and that hunter represents us our guardian and it is more than likely that same hunter or us if you will that is carrying cayde at the end. Just because you saw a cloak you think it’s the stranger with nothing to back it up except the cloak had a similar shaped hood

Disagree. Bungie is just trying to make it seem like Cayde is dead. Literally every form of media does this. They make it seem like a character will die, but they don't, just to get views or people to buy the game/movie/book to see how it ends. It's basically click bait.

I’m ok with waiting for the expansion to find out what really happens. This could be a red herring for all we know. If you want a theory here’s one for you. Cayde tricks uldren and is not dead because that was a fake ghost. The vanguard is trying to draw out whoever is causing “xxx” problem and cayde hatches a plan. It looks like our hero has met his doom, but little did we know, the ghost was not his or not real at all. Who knows? Right now, only bungie.

Or remember how he was stuck in the Vex network for the campaign? What if we retrieve a simulation of him from the infinite forest? (Or maybe the whole thing is a simulation and real Cayde is fine?)

5 RepliesPlot twist. Uldren is playing both sides here, making us think he's evil. Cayde-6 is in on this, and places a trusting "bet" on Uldren to make it look like he killed him. Uldren is reluctant at first, but knows that the Vanguard has heavy Intel on the Barons, to which Uldren can use to his advantage to control them. He shoots Cayde's ghost in a spot to temporarily incapacitate it, but not fully destroy it. He shoots Cayde in a way that would put his exo frame into temporary shutdown mode, and make it seem as if he was killed. Cayde tells Uldren to use the Ace of Spades for the time being, as Uldren wanted a weapon befitting a Hunter. Uldren is a Hunter in the sense of hunting for his sister, and using the power of the Barons until he no longer needs them. He will turn on them in the end, we will try to kill him for his heinous crimes, but Cayde will return just in time to tell us to spare him, as this was all a rouse to bring out the ultimate power of a Guardian for a much larger threat; the Darkness. Uldren becomes a Vendor/Skorn Bounty giver shortly after.

i would love for Elsie to come back like that, but i want cayde to stay dead, im going to relish in killing uldren, and i don't want cayde to come back right after or at all, i want my avenging to mean something, something that makes an actual impact on the universe

3 RepliesI honestly thought it was a representation of our own guardian carrying Cayde, but until we learn a little more I’m sure your theory is just as credible as any. Would be interesting to bring back 2 major story characters in just one DLC.

I think it’s your guardian that’s carrying Cayde. You enter the prison with Cayde. But, events happen and you’re spared to deliver Cayde home. A threat. Every character has a past though. I think there is a darker story to a Cayde. Cayde doesn’t go out swinging because of his past sins.

15 RepliesThey've stated that she's no longer a thing, that her story "was neatly tied up" or something like that. I highly doubt its the Stranger. Frankly if its not our Guardian then its another Hunter from lore (irony would say its Brask).
