There isn't another way to get an original one, but you don't need an original one to get the new exotic one.

So because someone might not have heard/read the information that you have, you automatically assume they are being a troll? That'll get you far in life... assuming you are older than 12, which is probably unlikely.

Yay for you. Giving information to OP on the only way that I knew how to obtain an original Khvostov is not trolling. And honestly, I don't see how you took that idea away from what I had said. Are there other ways to start the mission? Sure. OP asked if he was out of luck because he had dismantled his old gun. I was simply giving him the only option that I knew of... which is what I had done last week (started a new character to get the gun), so I was speaking from experience. So anyway... have a great and joyous day of patrolling the forums, calling out people for no reason. Toodles.
