10 RepliesEither Saint-14 or Albios. We know about Saint-14's story, but here's Albios'. Bare in mind, it's LOONG:
The Last Stand of Warlock Albios Excerpt of Debriefing w/ Warlock Rhylas Kanaan and Hunter Castor-87 following extended Dead Ghost Retrieval mission /Castor and I couldn’t have been on the moon for more than…would you say a week? That time was such a blur for me… The Exo nods silently. /Yes, a week. We had found nothing much of note yet. Almost all of the Ghosts we encountered were either damaged beyond recognition, or had no unique story to tell. At best, it was boring, at worst, rather depressing. We scoured the battlefield for hours at a time, only to find one or two Ghosts with even enough light remaining to utter anything other than a cryptic, sad phrase before blinking out of existence. /I was just about ready to call a quits when Castor decided to direct me to a more remote corner of the battlefield, one that had reportedly fallen silent very early on during Crota’s attack. At a glance this place seemed utterly decimated, a large crater littered with the bodies of Guardians, their twisted, mangled bodies strewn about the battlefield like bits of trash. The only structure in sight was a small, metal shack. Sitting next to the shack in a twisted, blackened, melted heap was what appeared to be the remains of a radio tower, one that had apparently been blasted from the roof of the shack. There was also a large, green gash on the northern side of the crater. Fortunately for my comrade and I, we were able to find one Ghost that was able to give us a bit of an account of what transpired with what little light it had left. They were a backup unit comprised mostly of Titans and Hunters, but led by a single Warlock, Albios, a newly appointed Disciple of the Praxic Order. She was to hold her forces in the crater and strike when the moment was right, but they had been ambushed shortly after the battle began. The ground in front of them split open, and countless Thrall and Acolytes poured through the schism, led by a triumvirate of cackling Wizards. The Guardians were…well, caught off-guard. They stood little chance. /Before we could extract more information, the Ghost had left us. But we had yet to inspect the radio building, the single structure in the crater. What we found inside…it almost defies description… The Warlock falls silent for a moment, trying to recall the details of the room. Castor chimes in. /It sure was something. Almost everything in the room had been melted and burned black. It was like a mini sun had somehow just came to life in the center of the room for a second, flash-frying everything. I couldn’t even tell what any tech in the room was supposed to be, it was all kaput. But there was one corner of the room that seemed completely untouched. There was a dead Warlock, absolutely covered with claw and burn marks, just sitting there. If I hadn’t known better, I’d have said she was just taking a nap. Sitting on her lap was a Ghost, not a scratch on it, but cold as a stone. Well, Rhylas did some of his…Space Magic shit, and the Ghost woke up. The Warlock taps the Exo on the shoulder, explaining that he can take it from there. /The Ghost had a surprising amount of life left in it, though it wouldn’t last long. But above all else, it wanted to tell me it’s story, before it ran out of time. This was the Ghost of Albios, and it had witnessed the last stand its brave Guardian had made before the rising tide of Darkness. He closes his eyes a moment before entering some sort of trance-like state, reciting the story of Albios without pause. /When the ground first split, Albios was the first to strike back against the foe. A small river of Thrall spewed from the surface of the Moon, threatening to drown the front line of Guardians. Screaming as they charged, they trampled their fallen comrades as they were picked off around them, not a one of them losing momentum. Soon, the sickening white wave of Hive crashed against the Guardians, with Albios in the center of it all, lighting a path with her fire. She withstood more Thrall than could be counted, holding the line single handedly for a time before she, too, was overrun, as her comrades were around her. The screaming monsters laughed as their bony white claws rent her body nearly to ribbons. /This was the first life of Albios. /The Thrall crowding around her corpse were disintegrated in a violent burst of light as Albios rose again, her light too powerful, too relentless to be extinguished by the likes of meagre foot soldiers. She turned to her fellow Guardians, rallying them, guiding them. They repelled the last of the Thrall with little effort. Echoing from the split in the earth, however, came a shrill, distant laughter. This battle had only just begun. /Soon, more abominations spewed from the gash, this time in greater number. More screaming Thrall to lead the charge, but to bolster their number, a small sea of brown, green-eyed monstrosities, many small and hunched but some taller, stronger, with large, hideous swords. Their terrible voices raised in some terrifying war cry as they flew to the center of the crater, eager to feast on the light of the Guardians. /And again, Albios was at the center of it all, dancing through the Hive with the grace of the most skilled Hunter, crippling foes with blows that would have made even the most seasoned Titans cringe. She held the line as best she could. Despite her devastation of the enemy, however, her allies were not faring as well. One by one, they were being picked off. Albios revived all she could, but she alone was not enough. In a brief moment of silence and clarity, the ones that rarely happen in the fervor of battle, Albios spotted two young Guardians, a Titan and a Hunter, with their backs against the wall. A small pack of Knights was descending upon them, swords ready to strike. They stood no chance. Albios rushed to their aid, dropping one with a few precise shots, disarming another, and placing herself between her allies and their foe. But she was too hasty. She hadn’t accounted for the Knights impressive strength. She was grabbed and run through with a blade, her body unceremoniously dropped to the grey rock below. /This was the second life of Albios /The Knight that had run her through and discarded her was quickly engulfed in fire, burning to ash in a matter of moments. There were still Guardians to protect, and as long as there were, she would continue fighting. She unleashed a mighty inferno against the remainder of the Knights, their screams causing a momentary pause in the fighting. The Guardians, though little more than half remained, took their chance, and began to push their foe back into the ground once more. An ear-rending shriek emanated from the vile throat of one of the Wizards, and as if by magic, the foe all simultaneously turned and retreated, the trio of Wizards being the last to leave again. One lingered a moment, eyeing Albios from a great distance, before disappearing once again. /This pause seemed to last longer than the first, though there was more to do in preparation for their coming attack. A search of the battlefield resulted in the revival of only four Guardians. The rest had fallen for good, their Ghosts either stolen, destroyed, or otherwise drained of their light. Any attempts to contact the main force were met with only static. Whether they had been routed, or their communications were somehow being jammed, none could say. But they were on their own. /A chilling, rage-filled roar echoed from the green split in the Earth. The third attack was coming. First, the swarm of Thrall, from a distance looking like an army of white ants mounting a charge from some twisted, hellish anthill. The ground began to shake as five mounds of wobbling, pale flesh emerged from the ground. Ogres, the most powerful foes the Hive could muster. Though unbeknownst to the Guardians present, they were now under the gaze of the Eyes of Crota. /The beams from the not-eyes of the Ogres laid waste to lines of Guardians who were not quick enough to evade their gaze. None could leave cover for fear of disintegration, but without leaving cover, the advance of the Thrall went almost entirely unimpeded. They swarmed around the rocks the Guardians were using for protection, tearing them to ribbons in seconds. Something needed to be done. /A crack of thunder erupted over the battlefield as one of the Eyes of Crota fell to one knee, crippled by some far-off blow. Before it could regain its footing, it was struck with another. It threw its head back to howl in pain only to be cut short by one final shot in its giant throat, stopping it’s last utterance before being consigned to the Darkness from whence it was born. /Atop the radio tower sat Albios, a standard issue Vanguard sniper rifle clenched in her fists. Her disposing of one of the fabled Eyes of Crota would not go unnoticed for long, so she needed to act quickly. In one fluid motion she ejected her empty clip and slammed its replacement home, lining up her next shot. Crack. Crack. And…Crack. Like clockwork, another mighty opponent silenced. As the empty clip fell from her rifle, so too did Albion. The Eyes of Crota, enraged at the loss of their fellows, searched for the source of their woes. A screech from their Wizard overlord directed their attention to the radio tower. Three beams smashed into the base of it, destroying the foundation in seconds. Albios attempted to right herself in the air but was stopped by the tower as it came crashing down on top of her. The twisted metal pinned her to the ground and piled on top of her, smashing the light out of her. /This was the third life of Albios.
1 ReplyMyself. Back when HoW just dropped and Skolas was making everyone his prison girlfriends, me and some randoms were on the last round of dismantle mines when I got stuck with the disease or poison or whatever you call it. Course the adds had just started spawning too....Being the only hunter and all, I dashed from the right aide of the map where we were, allllll the way to the left aide to dismantle the first mine. The timer on the disease and the mine ran out at the exact same time, so right as the mine got dismantled, my hunter flew face first into the ground in the most epic suicide play of all time. I'm still waiting on my medal.
