A Counter Argument to bring back Sparrow Racing, Old Raids, Old Gear (Only if they make sense?)

Like, and bump if you agree. I'd like this to get noticed because Bungie's reasoning is ridiculous. So the argument for not bringing back the Old raids and sparrow racing according to Bungie was something along the lines of "We want it to make sense with the story of Destiny." So I have quite a few counterarguments for that. 1. Sparrow Racing never made sense to begin with. It was amazing fun, and in my opinion the most balanced thing in the game. However, it had no bearing on TTK at all. So why not just MAKE a reason for it to exist permanently? Who says that it can't just be a way for guardians to wind down and stop killing each other every now and then? Maybe an actual SRL tourney could be held every few months to celebrate the defeat of Oryx, or whatever other raid boss the game wants us to kill. It'd be so easy to just say something like "Guardians are given basic sparrows as a means of transportation. Those who wish to gain the best sparrows must prove themselves on the track." 2. The Vault of Glass wasn't a part of the story until House of Wolves This raid came out in the beginning of the game's life. The only relevance it had with the main story was that it was Vex related. Destiny has had the story reordered once already. It wouldn't hurt to do a bit more and provide a little backstory to the vault with a few side missions leading up to it. Give us like 2 or 3 small missions or even a strike that gives us a reason to know of the Vault's existence. Then just throw on a 300 light version so that we can get "Ascendant" VoG gear on the same level as King's Fall. This would also bring back the Vex Mythoclast, which has been affected by so many fusion rifle nerfs and buffs that it probably wouldn't make a dent in the PvP meta. I could see it getting reworked for year 3. 3. Crota's End is so underplayed that most year 2 players don't even know who Oryx's son was. We've got this backstory about TTK. We know we killed his son and that he's out for vengeance. Yet, you can ask most of the players around who Crota is or how you fight him and no one knows. There's no reason for them to know, because he's not relevant to the game anymore even though the story says otherwise. Add a 300 light version and let us get "Radiant" CE gear on the same level as King's Fall. This would also bring back the Necrochasm which was complained about for underperforming. Yet when Bungie buffed it, they then left it in year 1 not even a month later. 4. Old Weapons were brought back with the April Update This had nothing to do with story. It was just a random "poof" you got some of your old weapons back. And you can only get them from Vanguard or Crucible. Why? How about we work on something significantly cooler and more intuitive and rewarding? Upon leveling up a faction, you get either a Primary, Secondary, or Heavy Voucher. You can use that voucher to purchase any class item or weapon of the category from the vendor. (Dead Orbit would have Exodus Plan, Deviant Gravity, etc for heavy.) Having this system wouldn't be something players could abuse for perfect weapons like Rerolling, but it would still always give you that chance of your perfect weapon or that elusive piece of gear that you could never get your hands on. It would also seem as if the Faction leaders care about your guardian and cater to your playstyle. No one wants a random gift, after all. People would play more and grind more levels, because having a setup that you love seeing and using is always more fun, and there's nothing wrong with working for it so long as it's actually attainable. 5. Trials of Osiris has no meaning in the story either So why do the other crucible modes need to be "relevant" to the game? If guardians are as human as they seem, it would only make sense that they want to relax sometimes. Whether that be through training or racing, who cares? Maybe the citizens of the tower like watching the races... 6. What's the point in having days of dead content? This is my biggest argument. I just can't see a point in having unusable weapons and gear. Let us customize. Let us personify. Don't stifle our creativity by saying "Oh, this gun doesn't work anymore because it's a new year." If you want to make our guns ineffective, how about you bring some logic for that? Why does Icebreaker kill Crota's swordbearers but not the Warpriest? Yet, I can take a no land beyond which uses conventional bullets and take him down. EDIT 1- Tons of support and I am thoroughly surprised. Thanks guys. I didn't know people on this forum could be so respectful. Someone reminded me that the vault was mentioned in passing during The Archive. EDIT 2- I'm all the way amazed at 300+ likes in less than 24 hours. At this rate, Bungie has to at least see it. A few more points to add in as well. 7. Omnigul, Archon Priest, and Valus Ta Aurc have no relevance in the current story. I'm aware that Archon Priest and Valus both have taken variants of their strikes. However, you can find normal non taken versions of the bosses on these strikes. Omnigul was killed in The Dark Below as a part of the story, yet here she is, leading CROTA'S armies. See how this is a problem in terms of logic and consistency? 8. Story missions can be replayed on an at light difficulty and in any order. So why not raids? It just doesn't add up. How can I start off with The Taken King missions at level 25 because I paid 30$ for a boost? My guardian will know nothing of the story or missions that came before. By that logic, every mission in the game should be 25+. Instead, missions are 25+ for TTK and going back before level 40 makes the old ones all a breeze.

  • Bringing back VoG and CE would be immense. Well at least a reason to do them. VoG was the most excitement i got from this game last year. Agree

  • I just want SRL back because it is the only quest I have left in my inventory and I am 1 win away from completing it. It pisses me off beyond belief.

  • SRL is part of Destiny lore though - it is a way for guardians to compete and build sparrow operating skills - just as Crucible is there to build skills with weapons. I don't believe I ever saw a response from Destiny that SRL was not "part of the story". It was a limited time event last year during the holidays. My guess is it will come back again later this year. What I don't understand is why it was only a "limited time" event. The program is built, debugged, and is part of the code base. Why not just leave it in place for folks to play if they would rather race than shoot? I heard a rumor that part of the problem with SRL was that it dropped too much infusion gear (i.e. Guardians were leveling up too quickly). I don't believe that for a minute. You only were able to get helmets and class items with light - the rest was costume only and geared only towards SRL. Besides, we get more infusion gear than we need every month during IB. BRING BACK SRL PERMANENTLY!

      • I seem to be in the minority but I really don't care about the story etc. Most of the missions I find boring except for a few but I do enjoy the raids. We did the Vault of Glass last week just because it was fun. In this way, maybe just bring the raids back and use the excuse that they are fun. I'm not interested in the story-line at all and I don't care if there has to be a story reason for it because it's just a game and all the reasons are made up anyway. I'd just like them to bring them back and let people enjoy themselves the way they want to. It's there if you want to play it. If you don't want to play it then don't.

        • Ya... bungie has a lot of convenient excuses, and in a sci-fi universe literally anything can make sense. Anything... They can write something in just like they did with etheric light, what even is etheric light? No one knows, it just works... So maybe they can just create vanity slots so we can wear whatever we want over other gear pieces? The excuse for it? Magic, morphing technology or what have you... VoG and CE still exist in the world, but it doesn't make sense for us to go in and get gear that is up to par with our max light level? Many vex missions/strikes don't make sense, but then they add something into MAKE it make sense, like the restorative mind... maybe it restored Atheon to continue experiments in VoG? BOOM, go back into the vault and destroy Atheon... Maybe Crota in CE is replaced by the fanatic we see in the court of Oryx? He's basically exactly the same... BOOM, we have to rid the fanatic from the Moon who is trying to continue Crotas plans. All that stuff is super easy, takes like no effort to make sense of... All we need is a simple excuse for something to exist and POOF it's part of the sci-fi world again. Just do it Bungie, super simple...

          • Valid points. Ascendant raid gear would instantly bring back many (not all) guardians who left the game. No reason why they shouldn't; most players liked those raids much more than King's Fall.

            • the sparrow racing had nothing to do with ttk? It wasn't supposed to the time frame ttk takes place in could translate into months/years for our guardians. Knowing that don't you think companies like those who make sparrows are continuing to do business as usual selling to other guardians and normal citizens? VoG was/is relevant as you said it WAS the focus of vanilla and we rekt the big baddies in it. Now they could sometime come up with something to bring it up but on the list of things there is better things they could spend resources on. Same with scrota and tbh NEW stuff>Old stuff I would rather have new exp with all the current players than rehashed content in a game where people constantly whine about getting NOTHING but reskins. Old weapons being brought up had nothing to do with the story? they are GUNS I shouldn't have to explain to you why guns don't need to have a story plot to be made relevant. and it has been know for a long time the reason that guns aren't kept up often has to do with last gens in ability to handle keeping them with new weapons. There are a few more reasons but that's one big one. Trials is directly related to a MAJOR character in the story and is meant STORY-wise to be a more extreme version of reg crucible and is to further prepare us for the greater threats that have yet to reveal themselves. your last argument on why you IB works on crota's sword bearers but not warpriest is paracausal power. My name is byf has a video on youtube about it and I found this post the tries to explain it. https://www.bungie.net/en-us/Forums/Post/171287840?sort=0&page=0&path=1

                • I enjoy reading these posts in hopes that Bungie sees these and gets talking. But, one thing did bother me in your argument about VoG and this could be debated: The Archive Story Mission does make mention of the Vault of Glass. I'm not saying you're wrong, just putting that out there.

                  • Heck, you could argue that VoG wasn't relevant until House of Wolves, honesty... Aside from the one sentence where Ghost says, "a place called the Vault of Glass" that is pretty much the only info we ever get on it during all of Destiny Vanilla. It seems like HoW would've be a better intro to the VoG, since we spend like 3 missions going in there. - It explained the Oracles - It explained the jump puzzle - it gave us info as to what the Vault was Heck, Skolas should've been the first raid.. why add all the VoG related missions in the 2nd DLC???

                    • MUST have all year weapons on par with every future release. The point is to have weapons that fit people's style and gameplay (and EVEN for PvP!!) so making year 1 weapons (me personally like Fang of Ir Yût) unusable past a certain point of the game. Makes no sense. I'll still like to use new weapons like (in currently trying to get the House of Judgement weapons) but doesn't mean I may have gear or certain weeklies that need a different damage type, and I can't use the Fang bc although it is Arc damage, it is too weak. Making year 1 weapons unusable is not a solution to make sure people use new gear, just make comparable NEW weapons and gear, on par or better. Bottom line, you have "best in the game" for different use cases, that doesn't change no matter what you change in a game. Just keep updating gear to maintain its usefulness. If it is to do with the coding or some shit, Change it! Lol. Thanks in ad gave Bungie.

                    • The reason why so many people don't know of Crota is because he was so damn hard back in the day. You also point out that story mode helps the end game raids, Crota had many missions before fighting him in the raid. This supports his popularity which contradicts what your saying?!

                    • You've clearly never played a mmorpg....making old stuff relevant isn't what they do, then there would be no point to play the new stuff if you could get just as powerful gear from stuff you already know how to do. The real problem is vendor gear....vendor gear should be irrelevant after Lvl 27. Make it so every new player in order to get past Lvl 27 gear has to run VoG or go severely under leveled into Crota or KF, then once you have enough Lvl 30 gear from VoG you can move to Crota then on to POE...that's what you had to do in every other MMORPG(until WoW started losing subscribers and handed out Lvl 90 for just buying the game)....the problem isn't the developers it's the players...everyone wants their participation trophy of being handed everything...I enjoy knowing that I put enough time("work") into this game to be good enough to be among the few who have actually taken down Hard Oryx and gone to the lighthouse....but that's a whole other discussion...I like the faction idea but that's about it...sorry

                      • Yes, I'd love to see old raids revamped. I still run the old raids just for fun. However, if someone offers me to play new content (KF, CoE, etc) instead, I'll ditch the old content for the new, obviously. It's just sad to see people who are playing old raids nowadays and asking questions like "What are those glowy things that appear on VoG?" or shooting Crota and ignoring the Swordbearer. Sparrow Racing made sense to me for the same reasons you mentioned. Story wise, it's just like us watching NASCAR! Guardians like to kick back and compete for prizes to improve their gear while having fun. By that argument alone, Crucible doesn't make sense. The whole "Show no mercy!" and all that banter you hear during Crucible is just ridiculous. So they're encouraging us to kill each other? To destroy each other amongst ourselves, what? Crucible is not even show an as a means to train with other Guardians to get better or whatever. It's displayed as a chance to complete obliterate and defeat the other team. I know I'm looking too much into it but I just never understood the motivation behind wanting to kill other Guardians, story wise. Reminds me of Gladiator or Hunger Games.
