Like, and bump if you agree. I'd like this to get noticed because Bungie's reasoning is ridiculous.
So the argument for not bringing back the Old raids and sparrow racing according to Bungie was something along the lines of "We want it to make sense with the story of Destiny." So I have quite a few counterarguments for that.
1. Sparrow Racing never made sense to begin with.
It was amazing fun, and in my opinion the most balanced thing in the game. However, it had no bearing on TTK at all. So why not just MAKE a reason for it to exist permanently? Who says that it can't just be a way for guardians to wind down and stop killing each other every now and then? Maybe an actual SRL tourney could be held every few months to celebrate the defeat of Oryx, or whatever other raid boss the game wants us to kill. It'd be so easy to just say something like "Guardians are given basic sparrows as a means of transportation. Those who wish to gain the best sparrows must prove themselves on the track."
2. The Vault of Glass wasn't a part of the story until House of Wolves
This raid came out in the beginning of the game's life. The only relevance it had with the main story was that it was Vex related. Destiny has had the story reordered once already. It wouldn't hurt to do a bit more and provide a little backstory to the vault with a few side missions leading up to it. Give us like 2 or 3 small missions or even a strike that gives us a reason to know of the Vault's existence. Then just throw on a 300 light version so that we can get "Ascendant" VoG gear on the same level as King's Fall. This would also bring back the Vex Mythoclast, which has been affected by so many fusion rifle nerfs and buffs that it probably wouldn't make a dent in the PvP meta. I could see it getting reworked for year 3.
3. Crota's End is so underplayed that most year 2 players don't even know who Oryx's son was.
We've got this backstory about TTK. We know we killed his son and that he's out for vengeance. Yet, you can ask most of the players around who Crota is or how you fight him and no one knows. There's no reason for them to know, because he's not relevant to the game anymore even though the story says otherwise. Add a 300 light version and let us get "Radiant" CE gear on the same level as King's Fall. This would also bring back the Necrochasm which was complained about for underperforming. Yet when Bungie buffed it, they then left it in year 1 not even a month later.
4. Old Weapons were brought back with the April Update
This had nothing to do with story. It was just a random "poof" you got some of your old weapons back. And you can only get them from Vanguard or Crucible. Why? How about we work on something significantly cooler and more intuitive and rewarding? Upon leveling up a faction, you get either a Primary, Secondary, or Heavy Voucher. You can use that voucher to purchase any class item or weapon of the category from the vendor. (Dead Orbit would have Exodus Plan, Deviant Gravity, etc for heavy.) Having this system wouldn't be something players could abuse for perfect weapons like Rerolling, but it would still always give you that chance of your perfect weapon or that elusive piece of gear that you could never get your hands on. It would also seem as if the Faction leaders care about your guardian and cater to your playstyle. No one wants a random gift, after all. People would play more and grind more levels, because having a setup that you love seeing and using is always more fun, and there's nothing wrong with working for it so long as it's actually attainable.
5. Trials of Osiris has no meaning in the story either
So why do the other crucible modes need to be "relevant" to the game? If guardians are as human as they seem, it would only make sense that they want to relax sometimes. Whether that be through training or racing, who cares? Maybe the citizens of the tower like watching the races...
6. What's the point in having days of dead content?
This is my biggest argument. I just can't see a point in having unusable weapons and gear. Let us customize. Let us personify. Don't stifle our creativity by saying "Oh, this gun doesn't work anymore because it's a new year." If you want to make our guns ineffective, how about you bring some logic for that? Why does Icebreaker kill Crota's swordbearers but not the Warpriest? Yet, I can take a no land beyond which uses conventional bullets and take him down.
EDIT 1- Tons of support and I am thoroughly surprised. Thanks guys. I didn't know people on this forum could be so respectful. Someone reminded me that the vault was mentioned in passing during The Archive.
EDIT 2- I'm all the way amazed at 300+ likes in less than 24 hours. At this rate, Bungie has to at least see it.
A few more points to add in as well.
7. Omnigul, Archon Priest, and Valus Ta Aurc have no relevance in the current story.
I'm aware that Archon Priest and Valus both have taken variants of their strikes. However, you can find normal non taken versions of the bosses on these strikes. Omnigul was killed in The Dark Below as a part of the story, yet here she is, leading CROTA'S armies. See how this is a problem in terms of logic and consistency?
8. Story missions can be replayed on an at light difficulty and in any order. So why not raids?
It just doesn't add up. How can I start off with The Taken King missions at level 25 because I paid 30$ for a boost? My guardian will know nothing of the story or missions that came before. By that logic, every mission in the game should be 25+. Instead, missions are 25+ for TTK and going back before level 40 makes the old ones all a breeze.

Edited by : ^ ): 7/6/2016 8:25:32 PMWell put actually. When you really break it down, Bungie are the only ones who don't have a reason. They just need to make one. That's what you do as a game developer. So they need to do their job and make reasons. The story as a whole has been reworked and recreated in such a small amount of time, that the current story has holes. Start filling those holes. You (Bungie) can do it.

I agree. Actually I've been agreeing for some time. We've been asking for all of this and a new update drops and we get something no one asked for... Wait for it...
Prison of Elders
Screw doing something fun when I can sweat through 5 rounds of Zzzzz Zzz... Wha!? I should not be able to solo PoE Challenge Mode but I do. A little hint this week... use...
no time to explain why I don't have time to explain to use No Time to Explain, guess I had time to explain
2 RepliesEdited by wize5: 7/6/2016 10:04:09 PMoh my God yes! Support man, Year one stuff needs a new coat of paint to make it relevant, I miss vog and ce. I miss elemental primary weapons (supercell doesn't count in my book as it's exotic instead of legendary).

Bump. Great post! What's amazing is the fact that the community cares more about the game than Bungie. This game is so broken, and so is Bungie.
-
3 RepliesVoG was part of the year one story, it was a tangent to the Black garden yes. But was still part of vanilla story. Valus was a commander and the Archon Priest was to shut down House of Winter. I don't want the old raids "taken-ified" just bump light levels up
-
3 RepliesRegarding SRL, don't you reckon that it'll come back around December/January? It hasn't come back yet, but there's no reason not to bring it back. As for the raids, how much additional content is that really, for the work involved? Just bumping up the light level & adjusting the weapons -I'm not so sure that's easy as just snapping your fingers. And once that's done, how long do you think seasoned players will take to run through them if there are no changes to the mechanics? The effort required surely outweighs the actual content delivered. Wouldn't you want new content, rather than old content re-hashed? There is a difference in strikes vs raids. For one, isn't our expectation different for what a raid should be vs what strike should be? Whether it's quality, scope or what-have-you? As for being able to raise the light level of all guns... Again, how easy is it really? Also, it seems a bit short-sighted to say that it'll be cool & wont have any unintended side effects (or trivialize encounters). It's all still in the game. All of it. You can still access it & have fun with it -it's not dead. I don't understand the complaint, but then perhaps that's just my perspective from the years (and years, and years...) of playing games. Oh, and hey! I actually really do want them to bring back the original raids with updated mechanics and maybe somehow work the story so it (kinda) makes sense. I would love to see it for the 10 year anniversary.

1 Reply#2... The Archive (which has been the same dialog since launch) is a secondary mission to the main story. Ishtar Collective is investigating the Vex, at one point Ghost states "... And a place they call the Vault of Glass" Due to the change in bounties in TTK, players aren't asked to do this mission specifically. Y1, it, and other secondary story missions, were provided Vanguard bounties... Speaking of Venus, what's with that unused player spawn flag in Shattered Coast?

7 RepliesEdited by FSUxGLADIATORx: 7/6/2016 8:14:27 PMThe vault of glass was mentioned at the end of a mission in vanilla destiny. Also, the new exotics they added in were either a part of PoE, or were the next batch of upgradable exotics. Also, the story would be improper if crota came back to life, unless they wrote an entire storyline based around the hive attempting to reform crota, yet that wouldn't even make sense, as we have stopped them twice before. I'm all for bringing old raids and exotics, but they need a valid story explanation for bringing them back.
-
2 RepliesI'd like for SRL to be in the rotation with those Inferno and Mayhem game types that we get each week. I just miss it so much.
-
1 ReplyAs much as I agree with you about wanting to update the raids, at the same time I don't agree with you, my reasoning is simple, if people actually took the time to do all the missions which are blatantly given to your character regardless of you joining destiny at ttk era, you would get the story of the vog the story of Crota, and the like, the only thing that is stopping new players and lazy current players is the lack of high end gear. To that I say I'm sorry? You need an incentive to actually want to do an old raid? You want more weapons from the past back? This is an mmo and as such in every mmo in existence old raids become obsolete and replaced with newer ones. If that isn't what you desired then I can't help you but this is the reality of destiny they don't have any reason to grant you old content just to give you a reason to do them, play it or not that's your choice. As for your other points on those ones I agree completely.

I have been arguing for this as much as they say it wood be "hard" to up he light it's a load of BS and they know it after all it took them only a week to up the kings fall to the April updates new light so stop BS ing and just put in a hot fix some people are nostalgic but still want a challenge from nostalgia and honestly some of the gear from Y1 raids where the most boss stuff ever, Titian gear from VOG, warlock from CE. We love your imagination bunjie but don't hide the old stuff we like it to.

Edited by Keadreos: 7/7/2016 3:14:45 AMActually, Trials, the Raids, the Strikes, and the Story Missions all have a purpose in lore, you just didn't dig enough into it.

1 ReplyBy bungies logic should be only able to do the raid once and only on one character. Cuz you can't kill atheon twice

1 ReplyGhjallyhorn is coming back but to earn it

Bungie plz read

Dinklebot approves.

1 ReplyWeekly raid rotation maybe?

I honestly want VoG to be brought back the most and SRL but mostly VoG

Old weapons were basically reskins, because the new weapons were also reskins of the old weapon Archetypes. Nothing you got in TTK was actually new. Other than the new foundry weapons.

5 RepliesEdited by BostonWins: 7/6/2016 1:07:25 PMI think racing league was GENIUS. its a fun time sink that had RELEVANT rewards and took some stress out of the game. just remove the bumping and it would have been perfect. the rest i totally agree with. Desitny has put a bitch hold on the community. telling us what we can and cant do and when we can and cant do it. its stupid redundant and slightly offensive.. they say its because there following other pve MMo style games... but thats stupid this isnt every other stupid MMO its a brilliant game at its core. break the mold! make a game and an environment that rewards and challenges its players. not discourages them.. every done a nightfall and got strange ducking coins. ever done the raid and got the same items.. this shouldnt happen or RARLY happen. yes the game should NOT shower us with op or max gear. but find a way to make it worth wile.. the raid gives us stupid moldering shards.. let us use those at a raid vendor to get special uniqe looking raid gear. make the items like 200-300 shards a piece so it take a LONG time to earn the set and allows a sense of accomplishment. same for strikes and factions. there should be a BASE reward and ELITE reward. so causal can do it and get something to encourage there return but elites dont get the shaft by noods acquiring their hard earned gear in one raid run... currently the only elite gear in the game is osiris... and that why there so much strife in this game pve'rs are getting the shaft and being told PVP players are the elites... like really..

I'd be happy with pocket infinity and an updated VOG.
