Like, and bump if you agree. I'd like this to get noticed because Bungie's reasoning is ridiculous.
So the argument for not bringing back the Old raids and sparrow racing according to Bungie was something along the lines of "We want it to make sense with the story of Destiny." So I have quite a few counterarguments for that.
1. Sparrow Racing never made sense to begin with.
It was amazing fun, and in my opinion the most balanced thing in the game. However, it had no bearing on TTK at all. So why not just MAKE a reason for it to exist permanently? Who says that it can't just be a way for guardians to wind down and stop killing each other every now and then? Maybe an actual SRL tourney could be held every few months to celebrate the defeat of Oryx, or whatever other raid boss the game wants us to kill. It'd be so easy to just say something like "Guardians are given basic sparrows as a means of transportation. Those who wish to gain the best sparrows must prove themselves on the track."
2. The Vault of Glass wasn't a part of the story until House of Wolves
This raid came out in the beginning of the game's life. The only relevance it had with the main story was that it was Vex related. Destiny has had the story reordered once already. It wouldn't hurt to do a bit more and provide a little backstory to the vault with a few side missions leading up to it. Give us like 2 or 3 small missions or even a strike that gives us a reason to know of the Vault's existence. Then just throw on a 300 light version so that we can get "Ascendant" VoG gear on the same level as King's Fall. This would also bring back the Vex Mythoclast, which has been affected by so many fusion rifle nerfs and buffs that it probably wouldn't make a dent in the PvP meta. I could see it getting reworked for year 3.
3. Crota's End is so underplayed that most year 2 players don't even know who Oryx's son was.
We've got this backstory about TTK. We know we killed his son and that he's out for vengeance. Yet, you can ask most of the players around who Crota is or how you fight him and no one knows. There's no reason for them to know, because he's not relevant to the game anymore even though the story says otherwise. Add a 300 light version and let us get "Radiant" CE gear on the same level as King's Fall. This would also bring back the Necrochasm which was complained about for underperforming. Yet when Bungie buffed it, they then left it in year 1 not even a month later.
4. Old Weapons were brought back with the April Update
This had nothing to do with story. It was just a random "poof" you got some of your old weapons back. And you can only get them from Vanguard or Crucible. Why? How about we work on something significantly cooler and more intuitive and rewarding? Upon leveling up a faction, you get either a Primary, Secondary, or Heavy Voucher. You can use that voucher to purchase any class item or weapon of the category from the vendor. (Dead Orbit would have Exodus Plan, Deviant Gravity, etc for heavy.) Having this system wouldn't be something players could abuse for perfect weapons like Rerolling, but it would still always give you that chance of your perfect weapon or that elusive piece of gear that you could never get your hands on. It would also seem as if the Faction leaders care about your guardian and cater to your playstyle. No one wants a random gift, after all. People would play more and grind more levels, because having a setup that you love seeing and using is always more fun, and there's nothing wrong with working for it so long as it's actually attainable.
5. Trials of Osiris has no meaning in the story either
So why do the other crucible modes need to be "relevant" to the game? If guardians are as human as they seem, it would only make sense that they want to relax sometimes. Whether that be through training or racing, who cares? Maybe the citizens of the tower like watching the races...
6. What's the point in having days of dead content?
This is my biggest argument. I just can't see a point in having unusable weapons and gear. Let us customize. Let us personify. Don't stifle our creativity by saying "Oh, this gun doesn't work anymore because it's a new year." If you want to make our guns ineffective, how about you bring some logic for that? Why does Icebreaker kill Crota's swordbearers but not the Warpriest? Yet, I can take a no land beyond which uses conventional bullets and take him down.
EDIT 1- Tons of support and I am thoroughly surprised. Thanks guys. I didn't know people on this forum could be so respectful. Someone reminded me that the vault was mentioned in passing during The Archive.
EDIT 2- I'm all the way amazed at 300+ likes in less than 24 hours. At this rate, Bungie has to at least see it.
A few more points to add in as well.
7. Omnigul, Archon Priest, and Valus Ta Aurc have no relevance in the current story.
I'm aware that Archon Priest and Valus both have taken variants of their strikes. However, you can find normal non taken versions of the bosses on these strikes. Omnigul was killed in The Dark Below as a part of the story, yet here she is, leading CROTA'S armies. See how this is a problem in terms of logic and consistency?
8. Story missions can be replayed on an at light difficulty and in any order. So why not raids?
It just doesn't add up. How can I start off with The Taken King missions at level 25 because I paid 30$ for a boost? My guardian will know nothing of the story or missions that came before. By that logic, every mission in the game should be 25+. Instead, missions are 25+ for TTK and going back before level 40 makes the old ones all a breeze.

Here I was thinking we finally it 500, but evidently people have been disliking this as well.

1 ReplyEdited by SkibidiRizzer, the Pogless: 7/8/2016 8:16:02 AMI can argue pretty much every point you made. SRL, Crimson Days and Festival of the Lost indeed never made sense, why does the tower celebrate Halloween and Valentine's Day? Two more than likely long forgotten holidays? I don't know. SRL was an event to get players who ditched the game to come back. It was only there for a week or so but that was to get tons of players to play Destiny so they can grind the Class S license. Asking for SRL to stay is like asking for everyday to be Festival of the Lost. You can't dismiss VOG as not s part of the story. It was the next step after taking out the Black Heart. Taking out Time's Conflux Atheon and the Vex manipulate time and go all over the place. HoW provided a little backstory. But really it's purpose in HoW was because Skolas wanted to be able to run willy nilly throughout time and we had to stop him. The Taken King provided us with the most information with the Paradox mission, you can't say it's not part of the story. We killed Atheon, making it able for anyone to waltz into the vault like no big deal, the Wolves, the Taken. Year two players do in fact know who Crota is. In the Taken King he's talked about in cut scenes. People know he's Oryx's son. Number 4 was a valid point I can't argue that the sudden appearance of weapons and year one favs being brought back without explanation other than "people liked them" is odd. Trials of Osiris is as it says in the name, a trial, that pits you against other Guardians in order to test your worthiness for Osiris gear. Which has proven to be really useful. The dead content is just the items that were too overpowered that no nerf could balance them and you didn't even need to work to get them like Gjallarhorn, Ice Breaker and Thorn. Most of the way people got these items is pure luck. You know Spider-Man's saying "With great power comes great responsibility"? Well Year 1 Guardians weren't very responsible. They became the only weapons people ever used. Bungie want a large variety of different weapons and armour people use. They don't want everyone using the same gear. It's not about logic. The fact you can go back and kill Oryx and other people over and over defies logic. Omnigul was placed in the heroic strike playlist because 1. It's a fun strike and 2. Grasp of Malok and the Omnigul Bond. Being able to replay any mission defies logic. Don't pick on being able to replay only certain strikes or missions. Even the Daily Heroic can be any mission. They don't add to the story. So what? It's a good way to get 15 legendary marks. The reason you can't play the hard raid before the normal raid is so the game knows you'll know what you're doing and won't screw everyone over. People shouldn't play the hard raid before the normal raid because then it's more difficult for them to learn how because there are no revives. In normal mode, you mess up whatever you can be revived. In hard if it's your first time if you mess up you're team is stuck one man down for the entire section you died on. Also the raid gear makes the hard mode versions of the raid easier and they made your light go up so you were ready for the higher light enemies. Trust me, I've tried taking people through raids in hard without them doing normal first. The only one that was possible was Crota. In not saying you're wrong in wanting better and the return of content. You just need a more convincing argument. :/

The faction vouchers would be cool

Please update Crota, VoG and SRL to year 2 and have it stay permanently. It was so much fun and you guys already created it. Just put it back and keep it there!

I noticed omnigul , with destinys current moving on logic, shouldnt even be taken king. It shouldve been left for crotas end. Great post! You got my like!

They should have brought the old raids forward immediately upon release of ttk even if they just give you armor and random year two weapons. Would still have more shit to do than what we have now. Seems silly to leave behind all your old content every 3-4 months.
-
1 ReplyJust about your voucher i would give it a light level so we still have the random light level and then the weapon you buy with it will be at this level what do you think ?
-
In a nutshell: - Re-building a raid to provide a decent challenge with current items/skills/abilities is no small feat - the game has changed substantially between y1 and y2 - this is much much more work than re-designing a strike (which really, requires almost zero play-testing, as it is intended to be a 'popcorn' type activity) - The y1 raid items were mostly obscenely OP - they are most likely never coming back - even if Bungie did one day re-design the VoG, you can bet they'd be changing or nerfing guns like Fatebringer before giving it back to us

So much bump. I love me some destiny lore but god dam you can't play a game that repetitive and say hey guys we'd like to give you your old missions back but that'd break the time line.
-
1 ReplyI would agree with you. We got the raids when they were relevant and the gave us gear relevant at the time. Obviously these Raids were fun (VoG is an awesome Raid) but we don't need them back. I would for sure play the old raids if they were brought back, but I'm not crying myself to sleep in the meantime.

Edited by : ^ ): 7/6/2016 8:25:32 PMWell put actually. When you really break it down, Bungie are the only ones who don't have a reason. They just need to make one. That's what you do as a game developer. So they need to do their job and make reasons. The story as a whole has been reworked and recreated in such a small amount of time, that the current story has holes. Start filling those holes. You (Bungie) can do it.
