Play the first few minutes of this vid and tell me you don't miss the days when Destiny's story was focused on exploration and discovery.
There was a real sensation that Bungie would gradually introduce us to a rich, dynamic universe, filled with intricate politics set in rich Haloesque set pieces like the Tower and Reef, & beautifully crafted environments like the Cosmodrome. 'Lord of the Rings in space' they said.
Then along came a shouty two-dimensional bad guy in a flying space rectum with an army of holographic zombies, and the rivalries between the Awoken and Humans, and between the Tower factions, and even between the enemy races and Fallen Houses, became forgotten. Tell me, honestly, that TTK's story isn't cheap & uninspiring (bizarre Grimoire cards linked to Calcified Fragments, not withstanding). All of that rich lore, and its promise of fascinating multidimensional stories lost to a simple 'good guys versus bad guys versus slightly different bad guys' grind.
What will YR3 bring, I wonder.
*Second Edit* Since this is now the top trender, and a lot of people still don't quite get what I mean. Those of us of a certain age remember hopping off a Pelican for the very first time, and taking a few seconds to follow Halo up out of the horizon and over our heads. Who can honestly say they didn't smile about finding a sci-fi world totally different from anything else we'd ever seen? Not just another Starwars/Star trek ripoff, but something totally new. That was over a decade ago, but the feeling stays with you long after the dated graphics and warthog rolls have faded.
For me, that feeling permeated the whole of Yr1; the music, the enemies, the NPC's, everything. The story was disjointed and raised more questions than it answered, but I wanted to know more. Yr2 has introduced a lot of new gameplay features (and nerfs), some are good, some are bad, but at the same time it totally abandoned that direction of mystery and adventure.
Some of you obviously prefer the straightforward good versus evil story- fair enough. But for me, I think Bungie's at their best when they make you feel like a tiny part of a big world, rather than just a tiny soldier in a big fight.

Bump 1000000% Bump!

was much better in y1. the general feel of y2 just isn't the same. on top of that this game is bleeding players. when you go into mayhem clash and you can't even get in a game with a full team and some players are from latin america or the UK that pretty much tells you no one is on
-
It's better now imo.
-
The feel of an incomplete game?
at least TTK got it right
-
Yea. Year one had a lot more grinding time for exotics, but everything else was so much better. Hopefully Bungie notices this and brings that feel from Y1

3 RepliesI miss the music u get when u enter orbit in year one
-
6 RepliesI'd do anything to go back to year 1. There's nothing to do here. No raids, nightfall is lame, Poe is lame, crucible is extremely sweaty
-
Just the start screen music and old Hopscotch
-
2 RepliesI miss... Shotgun, Regime, Thorn, and TLW meta (lol) Blue flame from Nightfalls and rep buff. Getting intense feeling in certain Nightfalls. (Omnigul arc burn and lightswitch rofl) Etheric Light. VOG CE (Of course) Vehicles being used in crucible. Solar wind affecting teammates. The old orbit and title music. Having fun in old raids. (There wasn't that many strict people in Y1 Raids IMO) The old theme of the game. Cheesing alot in PVE. (haha) Old strikes. (BRING back BROGOTH PLEASE!!) Old crucible. Hive or fallen incursions. (Blade of Crota and Prowling wolves) Pre-nerf weapon perks. Lastly, old gear and weapons. Feel free to add more.

4 RepliesThe low point surely was chocolate ghosts for Valentine's Day. That's world breaking idiocy.

The music was great, and the RoI soundtrack seems to be pretty good, though time will tell what it ends up being :)

3 RepliesEdited by QUANTUM-CHUNGUS: 6/12/2016 11:07:52 PMThere is a different feel to the game these days which is really hard to explain. Maybe the below tracks might help a little... 4 RepliesEdited by A Wild Hunter: 6/12/2016 9:21:56 AMY1 was actually sort of inspiring. Y2 kinda killed the mood. I wonder what Y3 shall bring as well?
-
I miss the old raid system. Complete normal to get to max light. Once max light (or close) try hard mode for awesome elemental primaries and a chance at the raid exotic. KF lacked this and there was no reason to do hard mode other than getting to an unnecessary light level
-
Year 1 had 2 world refreshes and 3 PVE end game activities, year 2 had 1 for far too long.
-
Year 2 was empty, there was TTK but that was literally it. Year 1 was better because there was always something to look forward too. As much a people don't want to admit it, the $20 season pass meta was miles better than the free content drip feed meta

I miss the actually being able to see your ememy in PvP. Not where they were 10 second ago.

That sense of discovery and the very large maps is what made it for me in year one Initially it was hard core SciFi but has slowly mutated into a swords and sandals franchise which has taken the edge of it for me(big mass effect player and fan). I still play a lot and find it very satisfying but not sure if the forthcoming expansion with the peg legs will be the nail in the coffin to leave, I hope not. Good gaming to all.

1 ReplyI also feel like it's the atmosphere that's slowly fading away, but looks like it might come back in rise of iron, the game was supposed to feel semi-apocalyptic, using junk weapons are armor in dark and terrifying situations, but around Mars and even the dreadnaught things felt too... Clean? Our weapons and armor are getting too crisp and shiny, it just doesn't feel like we're a bunch of under dogs fighting against the universe like it did when we started out. I'm hoping we can get that feel again with rise of iron

2 RepliesA moment of silence for year one.

Edited by turn1racelogic: 6/12/2016 10:50:20 PMIn Yr1 people bitch about Yr1 weapons/stories/bosses. In yr2 people bitch about yr2 weapons/stories and not as much on the bosses, at the same time they bitch about how good Yr1 was! And it seems like they forgot the things that they miss now are the things they bitch about just a few months ago! :) look like in yr3 we get to bitch about Yr1 + yr2 and yr3 Woohoo!

The first few seconds already gave me the feels...
wort

wort
What happened is that the customers seem to be okay with the phrase "we are here to make money" And forgot about the phrase "we are here to make good games" Seriously. They're all cool with paying man. They broke this game, Bungie just knew they could do it
-
Well hate to break it to you but Y1 is gone and that's how it's going to be, saying "Y1 was better waaahhhhhh!" Isn't helping SHIT. Y2 Destiny in my mind polished off the problems Y1 had. As much of a Loved weapon Gjallarhorn was No one can deny that it was by far on of the most OP weapons in the game.
Second to the Almighty Vex itself.
What did Bungie do In both cases? They did the obvious, They nerfed the weapons. What's going to change Bungie's design philosophy is creative and construction criticism. Not whining like this post.
