They do less damage than every other grenade except for Arc bolts, because everybody who cried about them got the nerf. I'm guessing Firebolt may possibly be the new arc bolt, useless. What makes them effective, is Health regen prevention Take away your Sun singers melee and grenade, and they've got nothing. It's bad enough that they get r@ped constantly in The Crucible/trials, especially when using Fireborn, their super....
