Dear Bungie,
I'm so pissed with you Bungie for making this god-aweful quest. The sad thing is I know a bit about how game design works and I'm sure you had some guy come up with this quest and you thought "sure, why not" and threw it in without thinking much of it, but its so very terrible and pretty much just busted as a quest at this point. What I really want to point out is that this quest literally goes against everything that you've tried to build with Destiny. From decision and directions you've taken I can see that you are trying to make a game where your particular play style matters and where all weapons are even, and you just choose what you like best; however this quest doesn't do that at all (And by quest I mean just the first part called that tracks your crucible kills). So, first of all you force all people who want to beat this to equip a certain gun. Now, I know TLW is a strong weapon and people love it, but for whatever reason I hate hand cannons and suck at using them (I'm sure there are more like me). So, in this respect you are forcing me into a play style, specifically a play style I neither find fun, nor am good at. Now, this wouldn't be so bad; I mean its only one part of one quest right? However, that isn't all. Because you don't just make me use the freaking weapon, you say that if I'm not good enough at it, I WILL NEVER COMPLETE THIS QUEST. Why would you do that? How does this positively effect the game. First of all, I don't think any bounty or mission should have a reset on it. You should always be moving forward, because literally no one feels good about moving backwards; no matter who they are. Also, who does this help or make feel good about the game? Yes, its a cool thing for the lore that your skill matters, but think of the two types of players that will play this quest. There is the skilled person who loves TLW, who will see the quest, appreciate the lore; and steam-roll the event without really thinking twice. This guy doesn't care about the negative of losing points on deaths, and doesn't particularly care about them because it doesn't even matter. Now, the other type of person is me. I'm bad at TLW and when I do the quest I feel just awful the whole time. I'm forced into something I suck at, I'm worrying about every death instead of having any fun in the game. You've essentially made it so that I hate the game, I hate whoever made this quest and I wish that I would just die right on the spot overtime I turn on Destiny, making me more likely to just quit playing all together just because I'm not having fun. (Over exaggeration but you get the point, not fun) So, what you've done by punishing players for dying is give hardcore players something they don't care about and casual players something that makes them hate the game, does that sound like something you wanted to do? I wouldn't expect it. Now, to be honest, I'm not as bad as I sound typing this rant. I'm actually a pretty decent player and have done many matches where I streak and go 15 and 1 or 20 and 5 even with TLW equip. So, why am I writing this? I should've beat the quest step by now right? Nope, because you once again made a move in a direction that is exactly opposite of what this quest is doing. You introduced more SBMM (skill based match-making, though I'm sure you've heard of it enough by now to know). And you know I'm not super upset about it typically. I like playing people my skill level or above, its really fine. Except when you give me this bulls***. The idea of SBMM is to have all players k/d hover around 1.0, representing everyone being around the same skill in each match. Well, then what the heck are you doing here Bungie? This quest gives you +1 for a kill and -1 for a death, streaks in either direction push it more so. So, if you are at 1.0 k/d do you every progress in this god-forsaken quest? No. The answer is no. Its so terribly frustrating, because I will have great matches where I streak and murder everyone and go up 20% in the stupid quest and then I will keep getting matches by other people's freaking skill and drop around 20% or more. And it just cycles over and over. I can't f***ing complete this quest. Why would you design your game, in such a way that you are actively fighting your own game design? Why would you try to make players so terribly frustrated for no gain. I don't get it, and to be honest, I'm betting you never thought about how SBMM would effect this particular quest. Now, I write this as a loyal fan. I love the game and I play all the time, but I think you made a mistake here. I think that losing percent on quests and bounties is a 0 gain game for your company and Destiny as a whole. Please, just fix it, or bring back Sparrow Racing so I can cheese the stupid quest like all the other casuals did.

I like handcannons but I HATE the last word

Once I got the feel of tlw in IB rift the shindig was a cakewalk. It was also very helpful when I got the final 20% off slam dunking the spark.

Great points but bungie come up with the dumbest quest lines ever imhop this quest would be better if your progress could not go down I would love to see the clowns that came up with this crappy quest actually do it

Edited by ChillCruz: 2/1/2016 12:17:37 PMI used to feel the same way as you. I procrastinated on doing that quest for the longest, mostly because I didn't use hand cannons and never picked up m TLW. But then I realized, wow, I really want The Chaperone. I started to use it, and I didn't like it, but I stuck with it. I got better and better and became proficient with TLW, and became ever closer to my goal. I GOT GOOD. I finally finished the quest, and got my first phantom medal to boot. After it was all over, I felt amazing. I felt powerful. I truly felt like I accomplished something great. I believe you should keep trying, no matter how much you fail. The reward is very much worth it.

Holy great wall of text, Batman!

From what I've read about this quest (so please take it with a pinch of salt) you only need TLW equipped you don't need to get the kills with it so you could become one of those that mains a shotgun/sniper also if you un-equip it if a game turns bad I believe that stops any progress or loss so that can mitigate the damage. I apologise if you already knew any or all of this. As for your reference to how this goes against Bungie's design approach, in the beginning that was probably true they did let us play how we like but now they seemingly want us to 'experience' everything this game has, for example you get sub-class quests asking you to get x amount of kills using all of your classes subclasses different abilities. You get these quests not just for PvE but PvP as well and now because of the class specific exotics you now need to have a character of all classes to collect all the exotic weapons (though in fairness if you wanted to collect all exotics you've always needed to have a character of all classes)

4 RepliesNot their fault you suck at the game. They make one truly challenging quest and casuals whine when they cant finish it. They want it handed to them for nothing. Try getting better is only advice that can be given because its not getting buffed due to crybabies.
-
1 ReplyCorrect me if I'm wrong but my understanding was that you only need have the weapon in your primary slot..
-
I went from 99 percent back to 1
-
2 RepliesI did it in the first week, within 2-3 days. Before TLW got buffed. What's my point? The quest design isn't the problem. Its meant to test your skills. Are you really bitching that they made a quest hard? Look, they want you to break boundaries, so you can get out of your comfort zone. Which is a good thing so you can learn from the experience and advance your skill level.

1 ReplyJesus christ use paragraphs!

1 ReplyYou should have done this quest when srl was out. Just had to race with TLW equipped and not die on the track. I guess you can wait and see if they ever bring it back. If not only equip TLW when you have heavy or right before the end of a match when you're about to win. The grind is real but worth it.
-
If you would have done it first thingbit was harder and honestly made you look at, and play crucible matches you never thought of and win. But not only win you had to do something like kill 9 people while backwards and shit. So stop complaining amd enjoy the crucible my pvp challenged friend
-
Damn man. I'd love to read it honestly, but I need to see some paragraphs. This wall of text is painful to read lol

I love handcannons, but TLW is the bane of my existence. It's such a shit weapon in my hands. I hate it. I hate it when people use it. I'd rather have people use Thorn 24/7 again than have this gun. But, the quest is a good quest. Just try. If you don't succeed, don't keep playing the quest. The gun you get after isn't even all that great. The quest isn't the problem; you're just blaming them because you don't want to blame yourself. Back in Y1, the Thorn had the same kind of quest, but nobody complained (for the most part) then.
-
Chaperone is so fun. Ypu could have got the shit part done in sparrow racing. Its hard but chaperone is worth it. Stick at it and dont die. People cry because the first part is hard. Then other people cry because tlw neefs nerfing. Wtf?
-
1 ReplyAll you need to do is equip it right before you win a match. Just remember to do it
-
Holy wall of text Batman!
-
I was like you once then I got a lot better at crucible and now I love my chaperone
-
Wow dude. You know all you have to do is put it on. Go to mayhem. Wait for your super. Kill people and get MEDALS. it takes 2 games if you understand how to get medals and not die.
-
Easy quest took a week to finish ( work got in the way ) all in all I feel ppl are whining because they feel like bungie made a bounty to hard ( for a reason, the gun rules!) ( so what thorn was just like this , with the exception of a weapon lock in) just use your secondary and heavy and go sweaty that's all you need to win
entitled much?
2 RepliesEdited by CrestedEBIN: 2/1/2016 2:05:14 AMSorry bud I agree and disagree with you. On the basis that you don't have to make kills with the hand-cannon itself firstly . Second if you go + k/d you do always work forward . - Now I did finish the quest by sparrow racing But . If I had missed the opportunity to cheese it out I would still have tried to complete the quest legit . I feel ur frustration but don't give up . Hunker down, make kills with special / heavy weapons too cuz they count and above all don't die ever !! You will do it !! I believe in you !
