Bungie, according to your "Statistics of the Week", 820,986 people participated in ToO this weekend, and of those, 133,444 made it to The Lighthouse.
So, using your (bogus) statistic that 25 million people are playing Destiny, that means that only 3% of the Community even participates in this PvP endgame content. Moreover, less than 1% of the Community enjoy the rewards of Mercury! Do you consider these numbers some kind of success?
You shouldn't. What you've created at the expense of the entire Community - given that every minute spent devoted to ToO development and maintenance is time/energy away from the rest of the game - is an endgame activity that a miniscule fraction of the Community even tries.
I am interested in hearing other folks' opinions on whether and how ToO could be made more accessible to more people.
I have two suggestions that are sure to raise the hackles of the ToO pros:
1. Once you go flawless on a particular character, that character is no longer eligible to compete in ToO until the next weekend. For those of you badass enough to do it, you can take all three of your Guardians to The Lighthouse, you simply can't keep playing on the same character once he/she has been there.
2. Provide optional matchmaking. Perhaps, go so far as to have two separate ToO: pre-made fireteams and matchmade fireteams. Hell, you could even slightly reduce the quality of the rewards in the matchmade Trials league, though this seems unnecessary, given that going flawless would be arguably harder with a matchmade team of randoms.
Now, these suggestions will piss-off anyone who already thinks this game caters to casual players - which it really doesn't; a game with this much grind can't be enjoyed casually - but understand that my motivation here is to challenge Bungie to really use these numbers they vomit at us each week, and ask whether what they are doing is working. Ninety-seven percent - that's 24,250,000 players! - don't even step foot in ToO. Successful endgame content, Bungie? I think not.

2 RepliesBTW, you can only go to the lighthouse and get loot once a week per char. So what am I missing g here
-
If this true why does Bungie act as pvp is so important?
-
15 RepliesYea bc 97% of ppl are little bitchs. Lets go trials!!!!!
-
I bet most players Denk like pvp and hardly participate in any event. Also a out of all those registered users, probably only 10% are still active players. That means that 30% were participating in trials. That is not bad considering people are still doing oryx on hard every week.
-
2 RepliesWhile I agree with what your saying, it's not like Bungie can make it any easier to get to the Lighthouse. It's a skill based game mode just like all aspects of Crucible. There's not much they can do about this, and taking it away altogether solves nothing. At least you don't have to pay in order to play it like almost everything.
-
If only 3% participated in home much of the reach the lighthouse
-
1 Replyi think it should be once per account. once you make it on one character, you cant play the mode on any characters
-
Agreed if people could only do once per charchter atleast us people who waited until Monday would have a chance to go without losing cuase everyone else have already done it and can't carry on reaping rewards or drag though a paying friend.
-
4 RepliesI was thinking, if you go flawless, you should only be matched with others who have gone flawless
-
They should just change the matchmaking, at the minute it's tosh. Just make it so teams who have never been to the light house play each other.. Got 5 - 10 trips to the lighthouse then play other teams who have a similar total .

2 RepliesEdited by l cohen l: 11/7/2015 12:06:47 PMBases his entire post on one weekend of Trials. Doesn't take into consideration the amount of people who played Kings Fall. GG buddy.
-
The stats are irrelevant really, whatever the totals are the mode can certainly be made more inviting. The bounties were a fantastic start but I do agree that if someone has gone flawless as one character they shouldn't be allowed to continue with the same character until the next week. As a compromise why not matchmake teams who have gone flawless already against one another? That way everyone gets to play without getting their run ruined by a group who aren't in the same league
-
9 RepliesSo? It separates the hardcore players from the casuals.
-
1: none of you have friends; 2: of the few who have friends, you're bad. Go to match making and befriend kids who are good. I have very few friends (2-3) and we do great in trials.

The problem with matchmaking in trials is the chance of being teamed with someone cheating. Bungie has made it clear and I have heard it happening, if a member of your fireteam is cheating you will be banned. By allowing anyone to be match made with anyone the chance is there. It really can be a problem for people willing to play fair and not be cowards. I know I would be flat out embarrassed if a member of my team that I had no control over, (As in the ability to leave or choose not play with them without receiving a loss) was cheating. I hate being paired with red bars when in any 3v3. It's sad and defeats the purpose of getting better. (I am aware that this isn't an absolute explanation the chances of legitimately running into someone cheating is more rare then people think but it is still possible and still happens in regular crucible)

There be an Osiris pve event that rewards us with the lighthouse, because I will never attempt ToO I'm pretty good but not good enough to go 9-0
-
5 RepliesDo you guys remember how many people attempted Kings Fall Normal the first week it arrived? Around 700,000+ That's less than the amount that attempted Trials but still there's tons of people who claim that the PvP in this game is just an afterthought..... Women Lie, Men Lie, Numbers don't lie...
-
6 RepliesThe total number of active players is nowhere near m25, more like m5. Kings fall was attempted by less players than ToO btw if I remember correctly, so I guess we should just get rid of trials and raids and concentrate on missions, right?

4 RepliesEdited by ImTooHungover: 11/7/2015 12:23:43 AM"Registered" users. Not "active." Someone might have said this already but i will reiterate: this is just simple, yet, smart marketing that Activision uses because people easily misinterpet it. My friends and I are technically one of those "registered" users yet we have not played Destiny since before the release of TTK. People who have started an account on a friends console and played the game for an hour is technically a registered user. Its even possible it includes people who have started accounts on the demo but never bought the game. Its a very broad statistic with no clear definition that, in all honesty, means very little about current success. Destiny has a fairly strong pull with pvp players. 820k played trials. Im gonna guess that 1 to 1.5 million players are still active--2 million at max. Good numbers but nothing spectacular for a multiplatform. Unless Bungie makes some serious moves during Year 2, they will be in for a world of hurt. A couple of the strongest PvE games are coming out--Fallout 4 being absolutely massive to this genre--and MANY pvp powerhouses in the next year. Lets not forget The Division which might be the closest competitor to Destiny. Granted it might flop. I highly doubt it as its been a clear priority for Ubisoft and I can bet they will come out swinging hard. This is what happens when you try to stretch into multiple genres yet fail to deliver anything thats above and beyond in any of those. NOTE: and to add to the PvE games. I know others have come out. There wont be a "one game kills all." They just take chunks out of huge games like Destiny depending on how successful they do. I know many people who have left Destiny for good and focus on games like GTAV, Witcher 3 and whatever else there is. Everytime Destiny fails to deliver beyond other games, a little more they lose of their repeat customers, which they rely on heavy for this game.

12 RepliesEdited by KBK Heroic: 11/6/2015 11:26:45 PMYeah bogus is the word. 25 million "registered" user. It's not even 20% of they playing this game. At best maybe 2-3 million.....At best.
-
1 Reply25M players may be slightly high, I'm curious to see what TTK total is but I was also waiting for someone to point this out. All I know is that 0 of my close friends play Destiny anymore and I have played 10 minutes to visit Xur in the last 3 weeks. Game is dead to me personally.
-
25 million registered is not the same as active users, that percentage is likely very low
-
6 RepliesThey should just let you go to the lighthouse every week after you play 9 matches. We all deserve those rewards for the countless hours we put into this shit -blam!- game
-
25 wins for the weekend gets you access to lighthouse. Win 25 matches in before Sunday night and you get lighthouse access and can open the chest. OR Go flawless

I didn't participate in ToO for one simple reason. Cause it's broken. ToO is what brings every negative aspect of PvP all together into one. I wouldn't enjoy it even the slightest, so I don't bother. I am a mostly PvE orientated player, but I enjoy PvP on ocassion. If there are meaningful rewards to get, like the adept weapons (only to infuse my actual PvE primaries though) I would do it. But not with the broken ass servers, weapon balance and class balance that is going on in the game.
