In saying that, anyone with a < 1.0 k/d is on an entirely different page.
The point I'm making here is your k/d will be a good reflection of your own individual skill in a game which is full of casual PvP players (which is destiny in itself).

In destiny it's probably a better indicator than old CoD since most of the popular competitive modes count kills as points, even the objective based ones. That being said, K/D can be higher on players who are less aggressive than a more skilled player. That being said, the bigger the gap, the greater the chances that someone is indeed more "skilled"

You're wrong due to the fact AI's affect you as an individual and so do other gamers. You're argument is trash.

I agree to an extent. It shows a tiny bit of the players skill. I have a 2.5 k/d but my two closest clanmates have a 1.6 and a 1.8 and they're both way better than me in Trials. I come from a death match background whereas they played a lot of search and destroy/rescue.

I want to have FUN in video games, so I use the NLB in crucible. That has definitely dropped my k/d ratio, because it was about 1.5 before i got my first NLB. Now Im pretty good with the no land, but my k/d is nowhere close to what it was with actual weapons.

My kd is something like 1.34 and it's constantly going up, now my average is around 2.0 and some days it's 3.0-4.0. So no, overall kd doesn't do justice.
-
After the thorn and last word K/D is a ongoing joke among my friends. We laugh hysterically at people who ask for it, and sometimes we respond with "I have a 3.0 but thanks to the thorn"
-
The battle rating or combat rating thing is more accurrate
-
looking at kd only dosnt give you much Info would you rather have a player with 50 games with a 2.0 kd or someone with 500 games with a 1.5

I agree with the post. Many people might argue that there are different situations, etc, that is outside of a player's control. But I argue that that's what separates a good vs average player- the ability to deal with tough situations and still come up on top. I'm speaking from a POV of someone who is average (KD 1 in control- old age- go figure). I recently restarted a new character and originally my kd was higher, but then as time goes on it settles at the median. I can have stompers which gives me 30+ kills w 4+ kd's, but in the end the average median is indicative of where I'm at. That said, I think it's ok to throw the KD out the window and have fun, try new weapons and setups even though I might get stomped. In the end it's only a video game.

Depends on your competition. When I play by myself I usually get a positive K/D. By myself. When I play with some very good friends I get matched against significantly harder opponents and have a much much MUCH lower K/D. I prefer to play with them because playin alone is dumb. That's why straight K/D is useless.

2 RepliesYes and no. Let's say I have a clone. He has the same exact skill set and play style as myself. He mostly plays with constant group of players. I typically play solo but sometimes with friends (this is the normal for me). It's safe to assume the clone playing within a group will have a better kill death although we have the same individual skill. It would be a guess as to how much but from experience I probably currently average a 1.1 kd when playing solo. I probably average a 1.75 when playing with a group of friends.

i have a K/D of ~1.6. When I play with people that have a K/D around ~1.2 i generally have a tough time getting to the light house. When I play with people around the same K/D as me or better, getting to the lighthouse is a breeze. When I play people in trials with below a 1.0 K/D my team runs all over them. Yeah, Id say K/D is a good indicator of skill

KD directly speaks to ones ability to get kills and not die, as someone who doesnt have a good KD, how can anyone say its not indicative towards skill?!

2 RepliesEdited by x Mr Finland x: 11/10/2015 7:41:18 PMYou can have 5.0+ kd when picking up blueberries and get absolutely trashed in sweaties. Sweaties people, sweaties. Skill in measured is sweaties.

14 RepliesOk this is what I have to say. I consider my self an above average player. Currently I have a KD a little above 2. That has significantly dropped since I stopped about caring so much about it a while back ago. I would only play with great players and not my friends and so on and so on. But to my point. I was top 5 in the world with K/D at one point because I would play SUPER conservative. I had around a 6 KD. So my point I am,trying to make is KD is a decent indicator but you have to make sure there not cheasing there way to it.
-
If this game had skill based matchmaking I would agree but since it doesn't you just have to be a better casual than the other teams casuals.
-
Good KD means you don't try new things or have fun you play a set play style or consecutive often times leaning towards the meta in most cases
-
My KD overall is terrible. I enjoy playing the objective games and the fact of the matter is, when you play a objective game to win, your KD has a much greater chance of being on the negative side of the equation. If I take my clash tallies though I'm a neutral 1.0 KD. You just gotta love the guys that go into Iron Banner control and don't capture a single zone, lose the game, come out with a 2.0 or greater KD, then wonder why there IB rep is going nowhere. So no. I don't say KD is a end all overview.
-
K/D can be boosted and frankly is a more accurate indicator of your opponents than yourself.
-
It's an ok indicator, but it's not the end all be all of your performance.
-
I'm not as bad as my k/d
but I'm still bad
4 RepliesI have a below 1.0 kd, and yet had over 2000 more points than any other player on either team during my one game of rift last night. Kd means little in objective based games. Just my opinion.
-
1 ReplyI have bad Kd. I actually like to try different weapons out instead of going with the meta. And some don't work out that well, but I still use them. Hate me, everyone.

7 RepliesI don't know why you chose to say that it's a good indicator in a game with casual pvp players, such as destiny as you said. Every game that has multiplayer has plenty of casual as well as skilled players (including destiny, since there are many skilled players in addition to the casual players). Fire example, so many people play cod multiplayer, it has so many casual and unskilled players. It has many skilled players as well. These skilled players are all anyone seems to think about when considering cod players, even though there are so many casual and less skilled players playing the game as well. K/d is a decent indicator of a player's overall skill in any multiplayer game. It's a good indicator of skill in both casual and hardcore games. But at the same time, some people mess around and don't focus too much on their overall k/d and might be much better than their k/d shows. So, the best way to see a player's individual skill in any multiplayer game is just to play with them.

1.5 k/d solo player > 2 k/d playing with pre made fireteam
