The title says it all. Why is this community getting hyped up about being able to use auto rifles again?. ARs are easy to use and can and will be spammed from any range. They said they are nerfing range and increasing recoil but only to a small degree so that may or may not help, but I'm worried that people will continue to abuse suros like a scout rifle like they did before.
Edit: This isn't a post complaining about autos, it is primarily an open question to the community on why they want autos buffed, and also part my opinion on it.
Edit 2: People keep saying "clearly you didn't play in the beginning or you would know..." let me clarify this, I have play since the beta and played crucible when suros and other ARs were king.

4 RepliesEdited by Skew: 9/6/2015 9:34:21 PMYou don't have very many kills with SUROS so I assume you didn't get to use it when it was good. Let me tell you a tale, from a long time ago. There once was a weapon class, known as auto rifles. They were the king of their time, because hand cannons, scout rifles and pulse rifles were too weak. Auto rifles granted no ridiculous bonus damage and each gunfight was actually a gunfight, instead of peekaboo. The true victor would triumph, and not succumb to an already-defeated enemy. SUROS was the best built weapon of its time, but all legendary auto rifles could easily compete. This is why the auto rifle meta is so heavily sought after. The game was much more balanced in these times, and I'd actually commend people for out-gunning me, unlike the current peekaboo meta. TL;DR: Thorn and The Last Word broke the Crucible. Insane damage outputs any other weapon can barely compete with. This is coming from a guy with a big chunk of experience with the game.

Auto rifles > current meta

Edited by Xerxes2552: 9/6/2015 9:44:32 PMMainly because they're ineffective at PvE. Going up against a Hive Major for example? With my Zero Point LOTP or 55A-Allfate I can put it down with less than a mag, or a mag and change if they have shields, all while keeping my distance. With my UFA? Three to five mags, but only if I'm at optimum range (read: pretty freakin' close), otherwise add one or two mags to compensate for damage fall off.

They don't want to try that hard for kills
-
Cause ARs are fun!
-
I like the ARs more so im happy with the buff.

2 RepliesLonger TTK's. When the Suros the THE thing to use, the most common TTK was about 3/4-1 second. This provides longer fights that you have a chance of losing rather than a 1/3 second TTK from TLW or a 1/2 from Thorn

2 RepliesI rather have suros as a op weapon then thorn or TLW ~About Me

Edited by LJ: 9/6/2015 9:21:21 PMTime to kill will be extended with autos on top. Thorn and TLW killed so fast it was unfair.

8 RepliesYou can't really spray with auto rifles in destiny. You have to hit your mark with 90% of your shots if you want to kill the enemy first. With handcannons you only have to land 2-3 shots.
-
My god damn grim citizen.
-
2 RepliesBecause I'm sick of having to hit the right trigger. 30 enemies means 60 to 70 pulls of the trigger. With a auto rifle it can be a one to one ratio.

3 RepliesLoved Ar's. I'm personally a more accurate, mid to long range sort of player. And I want there to be a solution to this current meta that we're in as of now. Just want some variety really.
-
Because im fed up of seeing Thorn and TLW in pretty much every crucible match
-
They won't be as powerful as they were, they'll ne viable again which is good but I'm mainly happy about the Hand Cannon nerf. I want some variety mainly.
-
Because I want to be able to use everything in the game. The way ARs currently are handicaps me if I want to competitively in the cruicble and I am bored of the hand cannon fest that it currently is! Hopefully this patch will encourage diversity and an overall better experience for everyone in cruicble.

They have a damage drop off preventing the abuse at all ranges. Same with pulses and stability. They're making scouts reign king in the long distance game and autos can work medium but are a cqc based platform competing with 3/4 secondaries in that range...

Hard Light. Enough said..

ARs are easy to use and can and will be spammed from any range.
Stopped reading here.

Because...
Reasons.

Love you!
-
1 ReplyBecause if you played pre 1.0 then you know how truly great they were. Then they were nerf'd to oblivion. Now they're getting buffed to half of what they originally were.
-
There can be a middle ground where all weapons are competitive. It's called "parity"..... and it's a good thing.

3 RepliesThe Regime in it's hayday was powerful...but it was beatable. A steady hand with any other primary type and you could down a Regime user. Such can't be said with Thorn or TLW. ARs back before 1.1.1. were across the board the best overall weapon. But because of Bungie's own design flaws...namely in bounty structure...they flourished. I find it funny how NO ONE seems to remember the glut of ARs based bounties that existed before 1.1.1. With as many as their were, OF COURSE everyone would decided to use the best available option. If the Regime were as strong as it was pre-nerf, and the bounties we have now existed...it wouldn't have the usage numbers it does. Fact of the matter is ARS weren't the problem. The bounties were the problem. The AR meta wasn't even REMOTELY as bad as the 1 that exists now. PvP is dominated by 5 guns...all of which are OP and game breaking.

6 RepliesAs stated in several dev interviews, bungie will keep nerfing/buffing weapon types and individual exotics every time something becomes over/under used. They don't want one weapon to dominate the game, nor do they want it to become stale. Personally I like the idea. Keeps everyone on their toes.
