WEEKLY UPDATE 6/24/2015 <<< Are y'all satisfied???

This week at Bungie, we’re working hard to fix what’s wrong with the Collector’s Editions for The Taken King. You’ve voiced your objections. We agree wholeheartedly. Now, our attention is focused on creating solutions. These things take time, so pardon our silence these past few days. In moments like these, actions speak louder than words. In developing The Taken King, one of our goals has been to celebrate you and your triumphs. E3 was a place to reveal the new adventures we hope to send you on, but our conversations there didn’t do justice to our plans to honor your legacy. Don’t take it from me. Here are some words from Luke Smith: I am Luke Smith, Creative Director on Destiny: The Taken King. Many, many years ago, I wrote to you each week in this spot. We talked about Battle Rifles, we talked about stuff we weren't going to talk about, and at some point I did a horrible hand-drawing of an upcoming map and teased you with it in the Weekly Update. Anyone who knows me knows I can be sarcastic, anyone who remembers podcasts I've done knows that I can be pretty blunt, and anyone who’s watched me in a ViDoc knows I'm pretty unpolished. However, most of you don't know me. Reading my interview with Eurogamer and imagining it came from some random developer of a game I love - that random developer looks like an Asshat. But that Asshat was me - and those words rightfully anger you. I'm sorry. My words made it sound as if Bungie doesn't care about their most loyal fans. We do care. We are listening. And we will make it right. Here's what we're doing about the Collector's Edition of Destiny: The Taken King... We’re actively working to make the digital content from the Collector’s Edition available in a $20 upgrade bundle (suggested retail price), available on 9/15/2015. If you purchase a stand-alone version of Destiny: The Taken King, or already have, you'll be able to pick up the digital items as soon as they are available. The Taken King Collector’s Edition Digital Content consists of: (3) Class Specific Emotes, (3) Armor Shaders, and (3) Exotic Class Items with XP Bonuses. If you have decided to pick up the Legendary Edition of Destiny: The Taken King at retail, you can also elect to pick this up if you want to upgrade into a Collector’s Edition. If you purchased the existing Digital Collector’s Edition, and you already owned Destiny and both expansion packs, we’ll have some additional information for you soon. If you want to get caught up on all of the options available for Destiny: The Taken King, you can view the details here. (Note: You won’t see the Collector’s Edition Upgrade we described above, yet. We’re working on it.) For those looking for a little more context about Emotes and Class Items in The Taken King, we will be introducing new Class Items with stat attributes. These will provide players with another gear slot that can contribute to both your Guardian’s look and build preferences. The Class Items included in the Collector’s Edition are a welcome addition for players looking to level up newborn Guardians or fresh subclasses, but they are not the only new Class Items available in Destiny: The Taken King. This is part of our focus on making the game more rewarding and adding more variety options for players. The same goes for Emotes. So, that’s what we’re doing about the Collector’s Edition. Here are some other questions, and answers, about some other topics many of you care about. “Hey, I have Destiny and all its expansions. Do I really have to buy stuff I already own to play The Taken King?” The Digital Download is for existing players who already own Destiny and both expansion packs, and are ready to jump straight into The Taken King this September. “Hey, I’ve been here since day one. What do I get?” If you already have a Light Level 30 Guardian, or if you’ve picked up and played both The Dark Below and House of Wolves, then you’re a VIP in The Tower’s book. They’ll reward you accordingly with a victory lap that will include a permanently exclusive set of items. When you stride through the Tower, people are going to ask you where you got those wonderful toys. You’ll nod and let them know you earned them. It’s a Year One thing, and they just wouldn’t understand. And they won’t ever be able to get their hands on their own set. And we’ll have more fun stuff for you to announce in the very short term future, just for you. Thanks for caring enough to sound off. We heard the feedback, loud and clear. We’ll talk more soon. To be continued… This is part 1 of 2 of the Bungie Weekly Update. Tune in tomorrow for the usual fanfare, including a report from our friends on the Destiny Player Support team, the Movie of the Week, and more. DeeJ, out. For now. https://www.destinythegame.com/taken-king/wheretobuy

  • The 20 dollar part is optional and you all still cry like little girls. 3 shaders, 3 class items, and 3 emotes. They could easily get away with charging 2 bucks for each of those individually

    • -blam!- no! Here in Australia that still translates to about 100 bucks for the content and TTK. Try again Bungie...

    • I'm a bit confused. What about people who didn't get the game on day one? Like let's say I got the game after a month of its release. And I bought both expansions, what do I get? That's what I'm confused on, so if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

        • So $20 for cosmetics and $40 for the DLC? I'd rather just buy a brand new game. What has Bungie become?

        • I'm a little confused. Did they say or not say there's gonna be a edition that's includes just the taken king dlc and the physical goodies from the 80$ physical copy of the game rolled into one? Cause that's all I want. Taken king expansion + physical goodies + digital goodies. For 60.

          • No people will not wonder where you got those things and you won't nod your head at them. Why? Because everyone's going to have that stuff. Why? Because all one has to do is by the game and expansions let's say, hypothetically, the day before release, levels their person up to at least light lvl 30, which is not hard to do with the HOW expansion, then buy the new dlc. This ain't year one crap. Let the people who played the game in 2k14 get this stuff. That's year one. Peaces of crapolini.

          • I'm probably biased as I'm totally addicted to this game but I'm very happy with they're response. Many companies would have said nothing or eventually come out with something but we get an apology and a change within days. We now have the choice to just get the in game extras if we want and if we don't get it, there will be new class items and probably emotes anyway so it's not punishing people who can't pay. Also I was originally pretty underwhelmed by the vip extras but seeing them, whoa! Could they look any cooler? If I could throw money at the screen I would! I come from the UK so the digital copy and extras will cost me about $86 but honestly the amount of money I've saved in not buying so many other games and renting so many films I still consider it a very good deal

          • well beats playing games like swtor, pwi, fw, and such where a single mount can cost you $50+. Still, it is a bit of money for an expansion when personally I am use to paying $20usd per expansion for games. So I will wait and see how the expansion plays out for everyone else before I buy. Maybe this expansion also includes parts of Comet? (not bitching, just taking a wait and see approach)

          • So if I read that right I can buy the Taken King for $20 and it will come with the emotes and class items?(not including the year 1 rewards as I am already apart of that) if someone would be so kind to explain that to me I would appreciate that, thanks.

I'm satisfied. Luke apologized, and it seemed honest. They are giving us the option to get the items in question. People whining about them being 20 bucks blow my mind. If you think it's too much, buy the standard one without them for 40. They are delivering an option just like we asked.

              • Now, I may be misinterpreting this but it seems that on top of the actual expansion you need to pay 20$ (no doubt translate directly to £20 over here) for some emotes and one or two other cosmetic items. Seems a bit much. So if you have the game and both expansions you're paying $60 for the taken king and the digital extras from the collectors edition whereas for an extra 20$ you can get the full game, all 3 expansions, the extra digital content and the physical items. Am I reading this right? I think a bit of clarity is required.

                • It's a fix but they need to take at least $5 off the price of what is basically just reskinned items.

So... $20 for 9 cosmetic items = $20 for TDB or HoW Yes a rip off, but comparison wise, they have a similar amount of content, being, not much at all. If anything, I'd actually rather have the class items rather than the TDB cause 1. Entire raid is solo-able and cheeseable 2. Raid weapons suck balls 3. Only 6 chances of loot per hard mode 4. The strike is annoying, boss fight room is tiny and poorly designed 5. The missions are pathetic 6. Made us relevel exotics 7. Nechrochasm sucks 8. Crucible maps are terrible 9. TDB exotics sucked. Dragons breath and NLB. REALLY? And I'd rather have the exotic class items rather than HoW because 1. Burns made skolas too easy 2. Loot drops on PoE sucks 3. Elder Ciphers are easy to get 4. Dregs promise sucks more than necro 5. Trials is lag/thorn/tlw fest 6. Story is annoying

I'm more Confused now than I was before! I planned on buying ttk but now Idk what the heck I'll be paying for! I already own destiny and the two expansions. So I don't have to buy the 80 dollar version that has everything, they have just the ttk expansion for 40, and if I want the goodies that come with the 80 version I pay an extra 20 for a total of 60?am I understanding this right? It better be a bigger expansion than the last two if it's the price of a whole new game! Also, do we still get the strange coin replica or whatever it was? Just curious. I don't want a smaller package deal just because I already owned all the previous items.

                    • I had to read the update twice to see if i missed anything and, correct me if i am wrong, it looks like the solution they have is to still pay an ridiculous amount of money for a few basic items. This is still a slap in the face for fans. How do they not understand this? Do they really not respect their fans enough to properly fix this? A shader, emblem, sparrow and the ability to strut my stuff and say i was there in year one are not enough.
