The X1 is quite underpowered when compared to the PS4. Add that to the excellent list of Sony Exclusives PS gets and you have an easy decision.

I don't hate xbox users I use ps4 because most of my friends have it and I like the controller more. The people who criticize someone for playing a console they enjoy do it because they have a sense of insecurity that can only be suppressed by trying to make someone else feel bad for playing something different than them.

I'm going to try to be brief. EDIT: Just because I said I was going to "try" to be brief doesn't mean I was going to be successful. You just can't simply explain this type of topic in a Haiku. If you don't want to take the time to read it, then don't. The truth is that Microsoft and XB1 were destroyed by Sony and PS4 because of how they were advertised and external socio-political events. But in truth, they were very much the same console, with the exception of what they were trying to become. When you compare the PS3 and X360, they were very much different consoles that had very specific advantages. Because PS3 was Sony and X360 was Microsoft, their advantages were most related to the difference in hardware and software, PS3 having the better hardware, and X360 having the better software. But the X360 had a very specific advantage..........social features. And the PS3 having it's own very specific advantage......Blue Ray. Because of these very specific advantages, what you played determined what you bought. If you wanted to play with your friends, you bought an X360 and if you wanted to experience great single player with wonderful graphics, you bought a PS3. Everybody that I knew that had a PS3 played games by themselves and everybody that played with friends played X360. That was the biggest difference. But the XB1 and PS4 were essentially the same console from both a hardware and software standpoint, with very minimal differences. Sony bridge the gap on the social features and Microsoft did the same on their hardware. The biggest differences were what Microsoft and Sony were trying to do with their consoles. Microsoft was trying to make the XB1 your one and only entertainment device. Television, movies, web browsing, music and gaming all in one device and that is how it was marketed. 1. The snap feature for XB1 is revolutionary and was a great addition to the entertainment industry, but gamers simply didn't care. Gamers just want to play games. 2. Microsoft underestimated how making the change from a purely gaming console to a full entertainment console would be received by its faithful consumer base. Sure, a lot of the features were great, but many people wouldn't be able to take advantage of some of the features because of the utilities in their area. 3. The Kinect was an integral part of what would make the XB1 a full entertainment console but gamers only saw it as a gaming accessory they didn't need. And then............Edward Snowden and the NSA happened. Part of how the Kinect worked would be that it was always on (unless you turned it off, which was something Sony conveniently ignored when they blasted Microsoft for it). When the NSA was caught doing what it was doing (say hello to Edward Snowden), the media went nuts on what that meant for the Kinect. The timing couldn't have been worse for Microsoft and I believe this was one of the primary reasons for poor XB1 sales at launch. 4. Gaming sharing and digital downloads were going to be a focal point for how games were to be played in the future. But gamers didn't like how those features were going to work, such as sharing games instead of being able to sell their games. Microsoft shot themselves in the foot on this one by not divulging how this would work. 10 friends could share your game with you, which is beyond what anybody would use. Sony was trying to hype PS4 as the ultimate gaming machine. They fed off of the negative publicity Microsoft was receiving (because Microsoft went first at E3) and executed their show brilliantly. But what they didn't divulge is that they were doing a lot of the same things Microsoft was doing. 1. Game sharing and digital downloads...........nearly identical to how Microsoft was doing it, but Sony conveniently left that out of their presentation because of how it was received by Microsoft. When they later revealed that their system was basically the same, the chaos had subsided and people just accepted it for what is was. 2. Xbox Live had always been a paid service for the X360. Part of this was because of the social aspects of gaming on the X360 and the XB1 would be no different. Sony and PS3 had no such services so Playstation Plus was free, because it was basically just being connected to the internet. But when the presentation was made at E3, Sony was very proud to announce that their service was still free............but failed to mention that PS4 users were going to have to pay for a monthly service similar to Xbox Live to enjoy their new social features. 3. One of the biggest selling points for Sony was their support of Indie games. If you were to ask the average gamer after E3, you would have thought that there was no way an Indie developer would put their game on XB1, but that was far from true. Microsoft had policies in place to make Indie developers be committed to Microsoft and some developers didn't like how that was presented. But Microsoft loosened their policy and now has an even share of the Indie market with Sony. 4. Sony had no interest in becoming a full entertainment console. Sony wants you to buy their other entertainment products such as DVD players, Blue Ray players, Playstation Vita, etc. Sony benefited from the fact that Microsoft was trying to further the evolution of what a gaming console was but the consumer base wasn't ready for it. I don't have either an XB1 or a PS4 because I know better than to buy the first iteration of a new console. I personally have no interest in buying a PS4 despite the Destiny exclusives because I know very few people with one. If you bought an X360 for the social features then you are likely to buy an XB1 regardless of what Sony did with the PS4 because that is where your friends are. I personally feel like the XB1 and Microsoft are on the right track for the future of gaming consoles and entertainment but just had terribly bad luck and bad timing. I dont like xbox because I went through 3 different xbox 360s in 2 years and a half. I treated them like a new born baby, put them in well ventilated areas, and even bought a fan attachment on the original 1 that I used for all 3. And guess what? All 3 of them "overheated" and red-ringed. I was able to play the last one for about 6-7 hours at a time using the towel trick by extremely overheating it(dont know why it worked). It worked for about 3-4 months before it died. I then moved on to Ps3. Ive had it for 6 years and till this day it still works like new. Plus not having to pay for online was great.
