Why the heck do I need to PVP for exotic weapons?

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but WHY the hell do I need to do something that I detest just to get a primary weapon from an exotic bounty? I would have preferred 2 or 3 different paths to unlocking a weapon rather than fighting through the horde of more experienced and/or lagging players that make it quite difficult for me to win when I am limited to a particular weapon type. My current example is the Exotic Bounty for Thorn. I wound up losing earned points by doing so poorly in a match. After 23 matches today, and nearly 6 hours spent, I am not even half way done with this part of the bounty. 160/500 points right now. Those that would say "Just don't do it then." would not understand that after 3 months I have gotten 4 primary weapons of legendary/exotic rank. The exotic was Bad Juju and I had to suffer through PVP for that, though it was easier. No loss of points upon death. TL:DR: Hate PVP with a Passion. Desperate need of proper weapons. Have wanted a Hand Cannon for Months. First chance? Do what you hate for days just to earn what you wish you could throw $25 at instead. I learned long ago to not complain without giving a pheasable solution. So frankly, I would pay, cold hard cash, to skip this part of the bounty, or just implement alternative paths to earning the reward for players who prefer different play styles. PVP, Raiding, Other Bounties. RANTING BELOW. You have been warned. Between the garbage drop rate on legendary primaries and the rarity of exotic bounties, in my 3 months of playing I have found 3, THREE, not one, not two, but three primary weapons in the legendary range. I then put up with the PVP requirements for Bad Juju and considered myself happy. I do not PVP. I hate it. I detest it. I would rather commit a heinous crime than suffer through dozens of hours of laggers, glitchers, cheaters and shit talking 10 year olds. This fact is made worse by the PVP requirements forcing you to use a particular weapon type, in this case Void damage. I want nothing to do with PVP. I did not buy Destiny for the PVP, but for the group challenges against boss', dungeons and new raid content. A game survives by allowing the players a choice, and in this instance, as with many others, I am forced into something I hate.

  • I'm going to respond and it may come off as a jerk but no intention but helping you.. First off don't count on drops for legendary weapons outside of raids ( more on that later) best bet is to use raid weapons and/or buy them from vendors the vanguard sell decent ones and ranking up and earning marks is easy with roc strikes and bounties daily. Should take maybe a week at most to do that for good weapons pve and if you're lucky enough you'll get raid weapons too. Second the crucible bounties are really easy to do even for the worst players as you really only need a .5 kd to get it done albeit very slow at that rate still doable. Instead of bum rushing or going for points find a strategy that suits you. I personally play control and use atheon epilogue ( usually bad but does wonders when you use it right ) final boss of praydeths revenge both void and truth rocket launcher or corrective measure void machine gun from vog. Play for you not for your team..sounds greedy but if you're not good need to be that way. Also you can camp high traffic with shotguns if that's your thing. And don't hesitate to leave if your team is very bad and/or other team is extremely good. Next you haven't played much to really be complaining yet. Sry to say it's true though. Barely 100 hours in and only 6 raid completions. That's 4 Crota and 2 vog... Should try to do each on each character each week and do nightfall for best chances. And to break down the math.. That's 100 hours in 3 months or 33 hours per month or roughly 1 hour a day which isn't much and destiny isn't for the (i get x at junction a) more along lines of I'll get things when I get them no guarantees so get used to it won't change and it's kind of nice tbh. Lastly thorn is not good for pve at all. It only does well for pvp so if pvp isn't your thing then don't bother going for it bad juju is much better option and useful. If you think pvp is bad when u get thorn you'll be even more angry that you wasted the time getting it and won't use it. Just remember play smart and for your objectives while don't sweat the small stuff this game isn't hard and don't need to stress out on it. Keep trying and you'll get whatever you desire (just as long as you don't expect it now and pray to rng ;) ) gl!

  • PVP isn't all that bad. Before Destiny, I would never do PVP in any game, for the same reasons as you (laggers, more experienced, cheating players). But I figured I'd give it a go with this game. At first it was all confusing; I would get easily taken out, but I kept at it. Now I enjoy running around maps blasting people, yes, you do meet the d**ks that dance on your dead body or "teabag" you. But I usually make a habbit of hunting them down and doing the same back. They soon stop. All-in-all, it's not as terrible as it first appears. I'm not saying you must do it, because I'm sure with enough grinding, you'll eventually get the gun you're after. But you must of had some feeling this was going to happen, being an online only game with PVP running alongside PVE.

  • I am absolutely dire at PVP I often end with zero points - I get smushed sooo many times it has stopped being funny. i think it is because I have the most baddest luck with getting anything exotic (wrong class etc) that I will carry on being mushed.

  • Bungie knows their PVP is bad, and that only about 5% of their community thinks it's a decent PVP. However, they need "scrubs" like us to play it so that 5% of level 32s has some bullet fodder. Then, when we manage to get a kill on them, they demand that our weapon be ruined in PVE.

  • Because there's more to the game than PvE (coming from a fellow PvE player). Aside from SGA, all exotic bounties involve PvP elements, to entice you to play the whole game.

      • I actually have 5 exotic's that were all drops, purple engrams, armor also. I don't do PvP, guess through RNG I've been very lucky.Bounties and missions along with grinding over the past few months has paid off.

      • But, to actually answer the guy who posted this, I used to suck bad in the crucible.. Still do sometimes. But ever since I started using a shotgun, I rocketed in the score boards. I would suggest going with a shotgun and see how that helps. Good luck man!😃

        • Because, if one wants the weapon enough, they'll suck it up and do it. It's a test of sorts, on how badly you want that weapon. I dislike fusion rifles but I want a post dlc era Pocket Infinity with max 331 damage. I can either not bother with it or suck it up long enough to do it.

LOL. I did it in 2 hours with a blue void fusion rifle, Atheon's Epilogue, and a blue void machine gun. Bro, I suggest doing rumble... But if you really suck at PvP then it will just a Long time

          • Bungie wants every guardian to be well rounded. Well rounded people can do well in both pve and pvp and are rewarded for doing so. Hope this helps

            • Ha I just finished posting a nearly identical rant. Hate pvp, can't finish exotic bounties and 1 legendary engram drop since the game was released. This game needs more matchmaking options like I don't know maybe raids...maybe more creative pve challenges and bounties. ..maybe more and random enemies to kill and maybe just maybe a use for the ships. Pvp and the inability to get past lvl 31 is really making me hate this game.

            • Then don't do the bounty. There is not really a reason you had to write this huge post for a complaint.
