I was thinking about majoring in computer science, but are there some other majors that I should look at?

1 ReplyWell there is a few areas . Programming and other coding parts of the industry are good, also animations, and 3D art. If you don't want to do any art stuff they always need networking people, or software development. Website creations, running, etc. Really it is what part of the industry interests you the most. From there just google that and it will let you know all about that area and major. Just takes a little research. That's what I did. I will be starting a game design degree in the fall. Good luck, and be brave.

1 ReplyI think it also depends on what you want to do in the industry - it's very important to KNOW the kind of job you want, so you can direct your studies/experience in the right direction. For instance, art - there's environment artists, 3D modellers, character designers, etc, which have various paths of study (making art classes a good start). I was actually listening to some old Bungie podcasts yesterday, and the days where people are just 'picked up' and carried along the way are long gone. The video game industry is a tough one to get into nowadays. It's also a good idea to look at job openings and note the criteria companies are looking for. Good luck in your studies/future endeavors! :)

Computer Science for sure. You'll have fallback options if you can't break into the industry right away.

1 ReplyYou should hang out with the sorority girls and learn the art of dick sucking. Because you're going to have to blow some people to show you're better than the million other nerds that are as smart as you or smarter that want to work for game companies.

Start by asking yourself what job within the gaming industry you actually want to do. Work backwards from there.
-
If you enjoy the coding aspect of software creation, then computer science is pretty good. Software Engineering is another option.
-
It also helps to look at the career page and see what Bungie requires for there employees and see which of those requirements falls into your major.

2 RepliesDepends on the kind of job you want. I'd especially look at what the forums ninjas have to say.

What do you want to do? The gaming industry has many many jobs that require different majors to accomplish them. I am majoring in computer science right now simply because it interests me. If I found a good job in gaming with this degree then I am all for it!
