I've been hearing through the grapevine that supposedly people have traced this artists works and then sold those plagiarized pieces to free databases. (Don't quote me on that though, I can't source that claim credibly) It's definitely not a good look, but using iconography from databases like that is pretty common in graphic design, especially for triple-a studios. Chances are that this is not as cut and dry as it looks, it almost never is.

      • From the Marathon Discord:
We immediately investigated a concern regarding unauthorized use of artist decals in Marathon and confirmed that a former Bungie artist included these in a texture sheet that was ultimately used in-game. This issue was unknown by our existing art team, and we are still reviewing how this oversight occurred. We take matters like this very seriously. We have reached out to 4nt1r34l to discuss this issue and are committed to do right by the artist. As a matter of policy, we do not use the work of artists without their permission. To prevent similar issues in the future, we are conducting a thorough review of our in-game assets, specifically those done by the former Bungie artist, and implementing stricter checks to document all artist contributions. We value the creativity and dedication of all artists who contribute to our games, and we are committed to doing right by them. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
• The first picture they have, yeah. The second one, though. If their trying to claim that any triangle arrow shapes are exclusively owned by them because they made a very basic double triangle image, then they aren't going to win on that one. 2 triangle arrow shapes definitely can't be plagiarized. It's way too basic and simple. The first one, on the other hand. As long as they can prove without a doubt that it was their art and made before bungie used it in Marathon and that it wasn't uploaded to be used freely.
