Petition To Make Rise of Iron Rated "M"

What made Halo so great? Destiny is great, but an M rating would make it so much better. It would give the developers and story writers more creative licence. Levels with darker themes would create a powerful contrast between "the darkness" vs "the light". Correct me if I am wrong. Edit: Ok, if you think that an "M" rating automatically implies gratuitous sex and violence, please dont speak because you dont know what you are talking about. "M" simply means that a game's creators have an extended range of creative potential when choosing content. It means the game can have a level of psychological maturity otherwise closed off to something trying to fit within a "T" content range. Stop being plebs and assuming that anything "adult" must necessarily be filled with sex and violence.

    • I feel like bungie could be making the story/gameplay a little more rated M without going there. They will never make a rated M thing during the destiny franchise due to the player base majority being 12 y/o. But I fully agree

    • Halo is a soft M. Destiny is a hard T. There's really not much difference. Halo wasn't great because of its rating, it was great because of the immersion, which came from the writing. Case in point, the first time you see the flood is a slow, methodical reveal. It unnerves the player, and makes the actual reveal and subsequent fight that much more intense. Another piece of immersion is that the characters actually participated. Keyes, Johnson, Miranda, Noble Team, they fought and died with you. They didn't just yell advice from planets away. They mattered, because they were actual characters instead of voice acted plot devices like every Destiny character. Tl;dr: Halo isn't better than Destiny because of its rating, but because of its writing.

      • Actually you'd have a higher percentage of squeakers because there is still a section of the adult population that don't really want to play a game with high school language and emotes. Downgrading the language to GTA level interactions doesn't make for a more mature game. I'll make a flat out guess here and say they'll be a direct correlation between the guardians that agree with this and the ones that still t-bag in crucible.

      • I see absolutely no reason to go with an M rating. Good storytelling doesn't need the crutch of an M rating. That is a myth that is prevalent in both games and movies today.

      • The "M" rating isn't what made the Halo franchise great. A dedicated team of talented writers with a solid story made the franchise great. It's not about how many tools you have, it is however about how you use them. People who seem to want the franchise to be M rated because it would "increase the creative ranges and themes that the story could cover" have a flawed understanding of how storytelling works. Constraints make for good writing. What I mean is that, with a limited tool set, you have to get creative with how you operate. It would be so easy to fall on crutches in writing like swear words and violence and sex when you have an M rating. Look at studio ghibli for an example, they cover a variety of themes in a mature and classy way while still maintaining a family friendly feel. I see no reason to raise the rating of the game, because I know that any writer worth his salt can cover the same themes in a t rated game.

Ok then they already have plenty of ideas they can use that doesn't require them to slap an m on their game. Just becuase a game is 'dark', doesn't mean it has to be 'M'. • It doesn't work that way. Besides, Bungie doesn't dictate ratings, ESRB does based on what criteria RoL fulfills.

I agree, like that part were the stranger crushes the vex on the ground and they just focus on her face I'm not a huge violence worshiper but Its a vex come on. PS I read all of the post. I know its not violence to make it M, But that part. I mean come on even if they did show Mr.Vex burst open like a water balloon under the foot of a never explained character in the game I doubt It be M. soo yea

Good idea. Then again, even without an M their original storyline should have been better...

            • I mean look at Batman Arkham Knight. All the other games in the series were rated "T" and Arkham Knight is the only one to be given the "M" rating. It was not rated mature because it had excessive swearing, nudity, or extreme violence but because the game took a much darker approach in terms of story telling.
Like having the Scarecrow Nightmare sections and the "suicide" scene
Just because a game is rated "M", doesn't mean it takes violence, language, and other stuff to the extreme. In short, I support the idea of the DLC being given an "M".

            • Yes, Destiny 2 needs to be rated M. However, this doesn't mean that Cayde needs to start cursing like mad or Fallen need to start spilling gratuitous amounts of blood. All this means, is that Bungie can delve into the universe in a way that's faithful to the lore (it's a surprisingly dark universe). I mean, Halo was rated M, and it wasn't a gratuitously violent game. Yes, it had blood, but it wasn't a Gears of War or anything like that.

                  • I don't think an M rating is necessary but I would like to see a darker side of the story. The lore shows that this is a harsh and violent universe and you don't see much of it at all.

                  • Truncated list of things Destiny needs: #129384: More variation in the color of birds in the tower. #129385: Another sweeper bot in the tower #129386: An M rating.
